Devotions in honor of St. Anthony: Tuesdays following 7:30 a.m. Mass CONFESSIONS Saturday: 3:00-3:45 p.m. BAPTISMS Baptisms are celebrated during any Mass on Sunday. Preparation is required for parents. Godparents must provide a letter of recommendation if not a member of Ascension Parish. Please make arrangements 5 weeks in advance by calling the Parish Office. Catholics who do not qualify as sponsors may NOT be Christian Witnesses. NEW PARISHIONERS: Please register by calling or stopping by the Parish Office. Be sure to inform your former parish that you are leaving. MARRIAGE: Arrangements to be made at the rectory at least 6 months in advance. Church date and arrangement should precede all other wedding plans. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK: In an emergency, contact the Parish Office. For Pastoral Emergencies at United Memorial Medical Center contact Reverend Kenneth Comer of UMMC Pastoral Care at (office) or (24 hr. pager). He will contact a priest if requested. The Eucharist is taken to the homes of the sick upon request. The office should be notified of the sick and aged confined to their homes or hospital requesting a pastoral visit or Eucharist. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Will only be issued to parishioners in good standing. You must attend Mass regularly for at least three (3) months prior to the date you are requesting the recommendation for. To be eligible you must: Attend Mass Regularly (Weekly), Contribute to the well-being of the Parish, Be Fully Initiated into the Catholic Faith (You have received the Sacraments of Baptism/Confirmation/Eucharist), If married, you must be in a valid Roman Catholic Marriage.

Working with the Word Sixth Sunday of Easter May 6, 2018 Reading I: Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, Responsorial Psalm: 98:1, 2-3, 3-4 Reading II: 1 John 4:7-10 Gospel: John 15:9-17 Focusing the Gospel Key words and phrases: Remain in my love, love one another, lay down one s life, I have called you friends To the point: Jesus issues two commands in this gospel: to remain in his love and to love one another. Actually the two commands are one: remaining in his love is to love others. By remaining in his love, we love with his love, laying down our lives. By remaining in his love, we bear fruit of a very tangible love that is expansive enough to call everyone friend. Everyone. Connecting the Gospel...to the Second Reading: The second reading invites us to obey the command to love given by Jesus in the gospel. Love is the very being of God ( God is love ) and since we are begotten by God, love is our very being as well. To refuse the invitation is to refuse who we are. to experience: We generally use the word remain to mean to stay put. The remain in me that Jesus speaks, however, calls us to move beyond where we are to embrace an ever widening circle of those whom we love. The Altar and Rosary Society The Altar and Rosary Society will pray the Rosary at 7:25 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, Breakfast will be served to Society members following the 8:00 a.m. Mass in Slomba Hall. Mothers Day Cards are available at the entrances to the church. The suggested offering is $15.00 per intention. This is a wonderful opportunity to pray for all mothers-to-be, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, both living and deceased. Your loved ones will be remembered at all weekend Masses during the month of May.
