5 I. The Magi Collect Officiant The people stand. Let us pray. O God, by leading a star you manifested your only Son to peoples earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Matw 2: 1 12 The people sit. The coming Magi Anm Choir In time King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem Judea, wise men from East came to Jerusalem, asking, Where is child who has been born king Jews? For we observed star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage. When King Herod heard t, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling toger all chief priests and scribes people, he inquired m where Messiah was to be born. They told him, In Bethlehem Judea; for so it has been written by prophet: And you, Bethlehem, in land Judah, are by no means least among rulers Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel. Then Herod secretly called for wise men and learned from m exact time when star had appeared. Then he sent m to Bethlehem, saying, Go and search diligently for child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage. When y had heard king, y set out; and re, ahead m, went star that y had seen at its rising, until it stopped over place where child was. When y saw that star had stopped, y were overwhelmed with joy. On entering house, y saw child with Mary mor; and y knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening ir treasure chests, y fered him gifts gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, y left for ir own country by anor road. Peter Cornelius Three kings from Persian lands afar to Jordan follow pointing star and t quest travelers three where new-born King Jews may be. Full royal gifts y bear for King. Gold, incense, myrrh are ir fering. The star shines out with steadfast ray. The kings Bethlehem make ir way and re in worship y bend knee as Mary s child in her lap y see. Their royal gifts y show to King. Gold, incense, myrrh are ir fering. Thou child man, lo, to Bethlehem kings are traveling. Travel with m! The star mercy, star grace shall lead thy heart to its resting place. Gold, incense, myrrh thou canst not bring. Offer thy heart to infant King. Offer thy heart! trans. H.N. Bate 3
6 II. The Baptism Christ Collect The people stand. Let us pray. Far in heaven, who at baptism Jesus in River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into Name may keep covenant y have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. Matw 3: The people sit. Jesus is baptized in river Jordan and divine Sonship is manifested Anm Choir Jesus came from Galilee to John at Jordan, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? But Jesus answered him, Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in t way to fulfill all righteousness. Then he consented. And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from water, suddenly heavens were opened to him and he saw Spirit God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, T is my Son, Beloved, with whom I am well pleased. Gerre Hancock Deep river, my home is over Jordan I want to cross over into campground. Oh, don t you want to go to that Gospel feast, that promised land where all is peace? American Spiritual 4

8 III. The Wedding at Cana Collect The people stand. Let us pray. O God steadfast love, at wedding in Cana your Son Jesus turned water into wine, delighting all who were re. Transform our hearts by your Spirit, that we may use our varied gifts to show forth light your love as one body in Christ. Amen. John 2: 1 11 The people sit. Jesus is manifested in first signs at Cana in Galilee. Anm Homily Choir On third day re was a wedding in Cana Galilee, and mor Jesus was re. Jesus and disciples had also been invited to wedding. When wine gave out, mor Jesus said to him, They have no wine. And Jesus said to her, Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come. His mor said to servants, Do whatever he tells you. Now standing re were six stone water jars for Jewish rites purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to m, Fill jars with water. And y filled m up to brim. He said to m, Now draw some out, and take it to chief steward. So y took it. When steward tasted water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though servants who had drawn water knew), steward called bridegroom and said to him, Everyone serves good wine first, and n inferior wine after guests have become drunk. But you have kept good wine until now. Jesus did t, first signs, in Cana Galilee, and revealed glory; and disciples believed in him. arr. David Wilcocks Tomorrow shall be my dancing day: I would my true love did so chance to see legend my play, to call my true love to my dance: Sing, O my love, O my love, my love, my love; t have I done for my true love. Then was I born a virgin pure, her I took fleshly substance; thus was I knit to man s nature, to call my true love to my dance: Sing, O my love, O my love, my love, my love; t have I done for my true love. In a manger laid and wrapped I was, so very poor t was my chance, betwixt an ox and a silly poor ass, to call my true love to my dance: Sing, O my love, O my love, my love, my love; t have I done for my true love. Then afterwards baptized I was; Holy Ghost on me did glance, my Far s voice heard from above, to call my true love to my dance: Sing, O my love, O my love, my love, my love; t have I done for my true love.
