We often fight or argue over what is different between us. I would rather write about what we share in common. Ever since the Second Vatican Council in the mid 1960 s a spirit of dialogue has been developed between different Christian denominations. Often times this dialogue has led them to center in on four things we share in common. First, we all believe that Christ is our Lord and Savior. He is our Shepherd. He is our guide, our way, our truth, our life. As Christian we are called to follow His teachings and unite ourselves to him so that we can be other Christ s for our world. Christians are not called to do only what they want but rather follow the Lord. The second thing we share in common is that we are a community of people united in prayer and service in the cause of Christ. We are not just a bunch of believers in a series of doctrines or who love God. We are a church people. You don t have a Christian denomination that says that you can just register with us but we don t expect you to spend any time with us. We are called to worship together, teach and learn together, serve together and probably fight and forgive together. We are family. The third thing we share in common is that we are called to worship together. Each Christian is called to keep Holy the Sabbath. It is a commandment of God and not just the church. Christ said Do this in memory of me!. He said Take and eat, this is my body take and drink this is my blood. Lastly, we are called to continue the work of Jesus Christ. We are called to service. We are called to go beyond saving our own souls and making us feel good to caring for those who are in need. How are we doing? Fr. Stew MASS READINGS Acts 2:1-11, Ps 104: 1ab,24ac,29bc-30, 31,34, 1Cor 12:3b-7, or Gal 5:16-25, Jn 20:19-23 or Jn 15:26-27, 16:12-15 All of us have been baptized into one and the same Spirit; let us live, then, by the Spirit! That same Spirit, the Advocate, who renews the face of the earth, was given as gift to the disciples to strengthen them to go forth in the name of the Lord, and to obtain forgiveness of sins. 3 PENTECOST SUNDAY May 20, 2018 A Niagara Falls Eucharistic Procession will be held on Sunday, June 3rd. It beings at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary of the Cataract Church, and processes down Third Street, Main Street and Pine Avenue to St. Joseph Church (1.3 miles). At 2:00 p.m. the process leaves St. Joseph s and continues to Divine mercy Church (1 mile) where the day concludes with Benediction and a reception. You can join the procession at either St. Mary s or St. Joseph s Church. Those who cannot walk may follow the procession in their cars. Everyone is invited. Priests and Deacons are most welcome to participate. Any girl who has made her First Communion this year is invited to join at the head of the process, wearing her white first communion dress. Boys who have made their First Communion can wear their suits and process. Altar boys are invited to wear their cassocks and surplices. Parish organizations are invited to join with their banners. In the event of rain, the schedule will remain the same, however processions will be held inside the three churches and we will drive from one church to the other. All fathers, grandfathers, godfathers and stepfathers may be included. The beautiful Mass card can be given to him to let him know he is lovingly and prayerfully remembered on Father s Day, June 18.
