Come join us on a day pilgrimage to Monastery, Saturday, May 19 to celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Grace. Price of $55.00 covers all expenses, including dinner. Holy Mass at 3:00 p.m. with Bishop Dunn. The pilgrimage bus will originate in Glace Bay with stops along the way. To arrange for a pick up point please phone Helen at (902) Mother s Day Memorials If you would like to put a memorial in for your mother please have her name in to Estelle no later than Wednesday, May 9th so they can go in the bulletin that weekend. Each memorial is $ Fundraiser in support of Hospice Palliative Care Society - Sunflower Treasure Pop Up Shop. Sale days are May 4,5 (10 to 6pm), May 6 (10 to 4pm) A fashion show in support of Bereaved Families of Cape Breton. The show is being hosted by Chislingo's and Kreative Design so we know there will be lots of great fashions to get you excited about dressing for the sunshine. The show will be held, the Sunday before Mother's Day, May 6th from 2-4pm at the Joan Harris Cruise Pavilion. A light lunch will be served. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Chislingo's, CB Curiosity Shop or by phoning Debbie at Hope Retreat and Healing Service please join Father Denis Phaneuf from Saskatchewan and Moira Noonan from San Diego who will lead you in a healing service and an uplifting weekend of Hope on June 1-3 at the Claymore Inn & Suites, Church St, Antigonish. Holy Hour for Life: Please plan on joining us on Sunday, May 6, at 2pm, when Holy Redeemer Parish, Whitney Pier, will host a Holy Hour for Life. During this Hour we will pray to God that our society regain its reverence and respect for all human life at every stage, from the unborn to the elderly, to the sick and dying. We will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, scripture reading and homily, the Pro-Life Rosary will be led by our CWL members and we will end with Benediction. Please join us as we come before God in prayer. The monthly meetings of the 4th Degree Knights of the Fr. William B. MacLeod Assembly are held on the last Sunday of each month at 2pm, Coady House, Sydney River with the exception of July, August and December. Fr. Patrick will be celebrating a Healing Mass on Monday, May 7 at 7:00 pm, at St. Joseph Church. Faith Formation sessions will be over on Sunday, April 29th. See you in September. The next Pastoral Council Meeting will be held on Sunday, May 27 at 1:30 pm. The next Liturgy Meeting will take place in September. Regular KOC meetings are the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm. The next CWL Meeting will be held on Monday, May 14th at 7:00 pm.

3 We now have Memorial Cards for St. Vincent DePaul Society for people who wish to make a donation in memory of someone who has died. All proceeds from these cards help defray the cost of the many needs of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Thank you for your support. Our annual Cemetery Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, August 26th at 10:00 am. There will be a sign up sheet for ordering roses beginning in June. Munro Academy will be holding it's fourth annual Mother's Day High Tea on May 12th. Come and enjoy homemade sandwiches, fruit and sweets and imported Irish tea. Gluten free is available upon request. There will be two sittings at 1 and 3pm. Tickets are available from Munro Academy, Registration for Confirmation has begun and will be ongoing until the end of June. Anniversary Celebration Once again we will be honoring those couples celebrating milestone anniversaries this year. We are also welcoming any couples wanting to be a part of this celebration even if your anniversary is not a milestone anniversary. 4 The Cape Breton Chapter of the Ostomy Canada Society will meet on Thursday May 10th,2018 from 2pm 4pm at the South Bar Fire Hall, South Bar This is a support group for ostomates and their support/caregivers. New ostomates are welcome. A light lunch will be served. For more information contact : Stasia Digou Prayers for Palliative Care The CWL invites parishioners to join them on Wednesday, May 9 th, The Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be at 2pm. CWL members will read intentions and pray every 15 minutes until 5pm. At this time, our CWL will pray the Stations of the Cross for the sick and dying. At 6pm, Fr Patrick will celebrate Benediction and Mass at 6:30pm. Please join us in our prayers for Palliative Care. Atlantic Memorial Park Project: Upcoming Open House Event The AMP Society is inviting the public to an Open House Event to be held 7 p.m., Thursday, May 10,2018 at Holy Family Parish Hall, Main Street, Sydney Mines. All are welcome. The Society will provide an update on the important progress towards the development of the Atlantic Memorial Park at the entrance to Sydney Harbour. The evening will also feature guest speaker Leonard Boudreau of the Cape Breton Highlanders Association, who will give a stirring account of the 1917 Battle of Vimy Ridge. Given the strong level of support received to date, we are expecting a great turn out which will serve as a further indication of strong community support for the project. We are hoping you will make plans to spend the evening with us and provide us with your feed back while enjoying some refreshments. Our mission is to create a sea side journey of remembrance that brings Canada s military history home Living With Cancer Support Group, a support group for those who have had a diagnosis of cancer, for their family, caregivers will meet Wednesday May 16th, 2018, 1:00 pm 3:00 pm at Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128 (Pier), Victoria Road. Facilitator: Tom MacNeil, CBCC Social Worker POT LUCK LUNCH AT 1:00PM In July St. Matthew Wesley will be again hosting Vacation Bible School for the children in our communities. It is a wonderful opportunity to bring children together to learn about God and how His Grace can help them in their daily lives, and of course have lots of fun. Bereaved Families of Cape Breton is offering a six-week grief support program for people who are grieving as the result of the death of someone they love. Sessions will be held at the Wilfred Oram Centennial Library, Commercial St. North Sydney, on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm beginning April 26th. Each week will explore a grief-related topic to help you move through and beyond your grief. The program is free of charge. Registration is required, by phoning

5 New Men for KOC During the coming months several men will become members of the KOC. As members we recognize the fact that we are not necessarily more " religious " or "holy" than others, but we have recognized the need for us to join together to support each other in attempting to do what is right and to help others. By being a Knight, we as a group do our best to support the Church and her teachings. While we seldom verbalize the old rules of Knighthood, we do attempt to live by them: 1. Act on your faith; make it a living witness to others. 2. Turn away from material things and don't be owned by them. 3. Train your mind to distinguish the true nature of good and evil. 4. Always be prepared for attacks from those who fear and resent the good. 5. Never ever give up or give in on matters of moral substance. 6. Life is demanding and brief; make it count. Old Rules for those considering Knighthood As a follow up to our 500 year old "rules of Knighthood ", these written and unwritten rules are worth considering for men who want to serve their fellow man and our church: 1. Do nothing in public or in private that the people you love would not hold in esteem. 2. Be alert to two special dangers: moral cowardice and personal pride. 3. Don't be ruled by your fears - analyze and understand them. 4. Don't let failure or setbacks turn you away from the church and God. 5. Your moral compass should not be determined by the elite and powerful. 6. Treat each battle as if it were your last. Fr. We.
