3 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 5, 2018 Page 3 Dear Parishioners, "This is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it." This Sunday, August 5th, is the day for our Parish Festival. It has been in the works since May 1 and here we are. Why a Parish Festival? Well obviously to help the parish financially (so bring your wallets and purses ha-ha) but also to build parish community. It's a great opportunity to meet other parishioners. You might see parishioners at church but don't know them. Seeing them at the Festival you can say, "I see you at church but don't know your name." Introduce yourself. There will be visitors coming. We want to warmly welcome them and show them our wonderful parish. Everyone can be a minister of hospitality. A smile and a welcome that's all it takes. You don't have to cook today! Our wonderful Sanctuary Guild, who are known for their delicious nut rolls, poppy seed rolls, and parish suppers, have taken responsibility for the food. Their menu: kura, katofle, kielbasa, kiszona kapusta, kluski I kapusta, golabki, pierogi, etc. Translation: chicken, mashed potatoes, sausage, sauerkraut, cabbage and noodles, stuffed cabbage, pierogi (defies translation (potato and sweet cheese) hot dogs and chips, etc. The ladies of the Sanctuary Guild have done so much for the parish. They have planned the menu, did the shopping, worked together with peeling, slicing, sautéed, boiled, fried, and baked. They work so well together and have great fun. (Maybe you would like to join the Sanctuary Guild. Their purpose is to beautify and enhance our sanctuary and altars.) Well hope to see you at the Festival and good luck for all the raffles. Gatherings begin on Thursday, September 6 th at 7:00PM Planning to Have a Child Baptized Soon? The Diocese of Cleveland ask parents to complete a Baptism Preparation Class before the baptism of their child if they have not done so in the past five years. This class is very short and can be taken at any Catholic Parish in our diocese. If you or someone you know needs to take a class, St Adalbert is offering classes on Oct 14th, 2018,January 13th, 2019, and April 14, 2019, at 11:30am with Deacon Ed. 4 Page 4 Faith Formation & Ministry Adult, Children & Teens Faith Formation for Children (FFC) Annette Klanac ext 247 aklanac@saintadalbert Be witnesses everywhere of the glorious Cross of Christ - St John Paul II REGISTRATIONS FOR FAITH FORMATION FOR CHILDREN FFC Registration for is available online or in the lobby. Registration forms are due now. Please register your child now so we can plan for catechists, books and other materials. All fees are due by September 24, Faith Formation for Children (FFC) meets on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:15 pm September-May. Children in grades 1-8 are welcome to register and attend these sessions. IMPORTANT DATES: September 10- First session / Parent Meeting in Keller 7:00pm September 17-Session #2 September 24-Family Mass 7:00pm in the church / All fees are due Children s Liturgy of the Word will be taking a break for the Summer. C.L.O.W. will resume after Labor Day. Thank you to the families who participated each week. Confirmation 2018: Parents and Sponsors- please turn in the items requested by Monday, August 6 th. Our Confirmation Retreat will take place on Saturday, August 11 th. Please keep the 25 teens in your prayers as they continue to prepare their hearts for the Sacrament of Confirmation on September 16 th. All parents and sponsors are asked to attend the 4:30 Mass on Saturday, August 11 th in support of the Confirmation candidates. Please contact Annette Klanac if your teen is interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in Our first session will be with Parents and teens on Monday, August 27 th. At 7:00 pm in the Church. As we enter the last month of summer, you may notice some changes to the sound you re hearing at St. Adalbert. We installed a new sound system! With the new technology, the speakers can be aimed so that the sound can reach further back without making the sound too loud for those in the front. This makes our environment even more family friendly as you have a better chance (especially in the back) at hearing the homily over the little ones who are still learning the skills of sitting still and listening! (Hang in there moms & dads it s just a phase!) I know I ve noticed the difference in the choir loft. The cable and interface to the ambo microphone were also replaced as both were damaged. I hope this will take care of a number of issues that we ve had with that microphone. If you have the privilege of using the mic, please move it with gentle care! Another sound change is also coming up this fall. Melissa Massery is stepping down from her role as the accompanist and leader of the guitar group that sings for the 11:30 Mass, in order to spend more time with her family. I am happy to report that she will continue to accompany School Masses and funerals during the week. However, if you know anyone who is an excellent pianist with some leadership skills and knows the Catholic liturgy (and is available Sundays and Thursday evenings) please direct them (or yourself) to me! 5 Check us out on facebook Page 5 August is a rosary rich month on the church calendar. It finds us celebrating three mysteries of the rosary, as well as three saints that are champions/warriors of the rosary. The mysteries that make up the rosary are actually meditations. When we pray the rosary, we are to meditate to think about, to contemplate the happenings during the life of Mary and Jesus. Mary always brings us closer to Jesus! Each of the mysteries of the rosary is a revelation of Jesus virtues that we are to imitate. The first mystery of the rosary that is on the church calendar is the Transfiguration of Our Lord. This is the 4 th Luminous Mystery. The Luminous Mysteries the mysteries of light were added to the rosary by St. Pope John Paul II in The Transfiguration gives us a glimpse into Jesus divine glory. The Feast of the Transfiguration is celebrated on August 6 th. The other two mysteries of the rosary that we will be celebrating are the 4 th and 5 th Glorious Mysteries. The Assumption (4 th mystery) is celebrated on the 15 th this is a Holy Day of Obligation. This mystery allows us to contemplate Mary s assumption body and soul into Heaven. It gives us a glimpse into what awaits for us in the next life as we work in this life on the virtues that Mary mastered and that the Lord wants us to master as well. The Queenship of Mary (5 th Glorious Mystery) is celebrated on August 22 nd. This Mystery allows us to contemplate how Mary wishes to help us to obtain all the many graces that Jesus wishes to give to us graces that will help us on our journey to eternal life. The three Rosary champions that the church will celebrate this month are St. Alphonus Liguori on August 1, St. Dominic on August 8, and, St. Maximilian Kolbe on August 14 th. St. Dominic is integral to the Rosary, as it was to him that Our Blessed Mother entrusted the Rosary to back in the 13 th century. St. Liguori was a champion of the rosary and the souls in purgatory, stating: If we want to help the souls in purgatory then we should say the rosary for them because the rosary gives them great relief. St. Kolbe tells us: The scapular, the rosary, and the Miraculous Medal: here are the three things that the Immaculate herself deigned to offer for the salvation of mankind. Please prayerfully consider joining the Rosary Ministry on the Feast of the Transfiguration August 6 th at 6:30 pm in the JP II room for our next meeting. We would be thrilled to teach you how to make the weapon of champions the weapon of Heaven. No experience needed we will teach and provide starter supplies. This generation s rosary champions are definitely needed!
