Paul Nienaber, SJ, a Jesuit priest and nuclear physicist. starting from the Saviour s cross: through the world that God befriended, working, counting not the cost. Sickness healed and hatred broken, captives freed, good news proclaimed, words of peace and mercy spoken by the saints, in Jesus name. 2. See the pilgrim line extended, faithful shepherds, fearless guides lest the flock remain untended or desert the Saviour s side. For the gospel s sake they labour, for the kingdom s growth they strive, loving God and serving neighbour, spending self for Spirit s life. 3. See the pilgrim line extended, broader, wider, stretching forth, following the plan intended, bearing Christ to all the earth. We have let their vision seize us, we would join their shining band underneath the cross of Jesus, till with them in light we stand.

3 First Reading: Isaiah On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well -matured wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-matured wines strained clear. 7 And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; 8 he will swallow up death for ever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. 9 It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Second Reading: Revelation a 1 I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; 4 he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away. 5 And the one who was seated on the throne said, See, I am making all things new. Also he said, Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true. 6 Then he said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Gospel: John When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. 18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, some two miles away, 19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them about their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary stayed at home. 21 Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him. 23 Jesus said to her, Your brother will rise again. 24 Martha said to him, I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day. 25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? 27 She said to him, Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world. Help Needed An elderly parishioner is looking for someone to assist with household tasks including taking him shopping and assisting with tasks around the house. Friday mornings 8:30-11:30 am. (This is a paid position). Thank you. Joint Service 25th November Christ The King will be celebrated on 25th November at a Joint Service at 9.45am before the AGM which will be followed by brunch.

4 Remembrance Sunday This year 11th November is the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day Revd Kate Lord will be preaching at St Stephen s and St Mary s. There will be a retiring offertory at each service which will support Defence Force Anglican Chaplains. The Net will gather for our men s breakfast at 9am this coming Saturday, November 10 at the Airstream Café, Century City Walk, Glen Waverley. All men of the parish are welcome. Notice of General Meeting The Parish General Meeting will be held on Sunday 25 November following a joint service which will commence at 9.45am Electoral Roll The updated Parish Electoral Roll is available in the Narthex and the Parish Centre. Please check that you are on the roll. If you are not and you would like to be included please fill in one of the forms available. Election of Parish Council Nomination forms are available in the Narthex and the Parish Centre. 1 people s warden 9 members of parish council 2 members of the incumbency committee. Closing date for nominations is close of business on Friday 9 November Annual Report Annual Reports will be available by for those on the distribution list and there will be hard copies available as well for those people needing them. Questions arising from the report will be addressed at the General Meeting on Sunday 25 November. MU will be staffing the LIONS OP SHOP from Monday 12 Nov Friday 16 Nov Donations of clothing, homewares, jewellery, CDs, toys, bric a brac etc very welcome. Our Drop Off days are Friday 2 Nov and Monday 5 Nov. Please indicate your goods are for St Stephen and St Mary. There are some vacancies on the roster. Please RSVP by Friday, Nov 23, to garryd@trinity.edu.au Monday November 26 th Visit to the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens We will be meeting at the Church at 10am to car share for the trip to see these amazing gardens which display only Australian Plants. The gardens are accessible to those with mobility needs and we will be able to enjoy a 25min. trip around the Gardens in the Garden Explorer Train (cost $10/$8 concession). Late Spring is a good time to view the amazing plant displays. The Gardens also have a reasonably priced café but you could bring your own lunch. There will be time to visit the Gardens Gift Shop. This is a visit to which everyone is welcome, but please let Irene or Marg know so we can ensure sufficient cars are available. Afternoon Meditation Gatherings 1st Wednesday of the month at 2.30pm in the Chapel, based on Ignatian Spirituality. A Sacred Space where you can find rest and stillness, listen and centre yourself.
