Introit: Tis 154 The Last Sunday After Epiphany The Transfiguration Year C 3 rd March 2019 White Prayer of the Day O God, glorious and faithful, you reveal the beauty of your face to those who seek you with a sincere heart: strengthen us in faith to embrace the mystery of the cross, and open our hearts to its transforming power, so that, clinging in love to your will for us, we may walk as followers of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. A reading from the book of Exodus, Chapter 34 beginning at Verse 29 Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face was shining, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses spoke with them. Afterward all the Israelites came near, and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. When Moses had finished 2
speaking with them, he put a veil on his face; but whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would take the veil off, until he came out; and when he came out, and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, the Israelites would see the face of Moses, that the skin of his face was shining; and Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him. Hear the word of the Lord thanks be to God [NRSV Exodus 34:29-35] Psalm 99 The Lord is king, let the nations tremble: he is enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake. The Lord is great in Zion: he is high above all nations. Let them praise your great and terrible name: for holy is the Lord. The Mighty One is king and loves justice: you have established equity, you have dealt righteousness and justice in Jacob. O exalt the Lord our God: and bow down before his footstool, for he is holy. Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among those who call upon his name: they called to the Lord and he answered. He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud: they kept to his teachings and the law that he gave them. 3
8 9 You answered them, O Lord our God: you were a forgiving God to them, and pardoned their wrongdoing. O exalt the Lord our God: and bow down towards his holy hill, for the Lord our God is holy. A reading from the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians, Chapter 3 beginning at Verse 12 Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness, not like Moses, who put a veil over his face to keep the people of Israel from gazing at the end of the glory that was being set aside. But their minds were hardened. Indeed, to this very day, when they hear the reading of the old covenant, that same veil is still there, since only in Christ is it set aside. Indeed, to this very day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their minds; but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. Therefore, since it is by God s mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. We have renounced the shameful things that one hides; we refuse to practice cunning or to falsify God s word; but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. [NRSV 2 Corinthians 3:12-4.2] Hear the word of the Lord, thanks be to God. 4
Gradual: Tis 219 Tune 1, v 1, 2, 3 & 4 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke, Chapter 9 beginning at Verse 28 Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ. Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah not knowing what he said. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him! When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen. This is the Gospel of the Lord, [NRSV Luke 9:28-36] praise to you Lord Jesus Christ. 5
Offertory: Tis 540 Final: Tis 687 Prayer of the Week Grant, O Lord, that the course of this world may be so peaceably ordered by your governance, that your Church may joyfully serve you in all godly quietness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen A Prayer for the Parish of Port Lincoln Father help us to be a Church that is a welcoming, caring, and meaningful community. A community which enjoys the celebration of the sacraments and has a passion to proclaim the Gospel of Christ. A community which reaches out to others, sharing the love of God with them. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen Prayer for the Appointment of a Parish Priest Bountiful God, give to this parish a faithful pastor who will faithfully speak your word and minister your sacraments; an encourager who will equip your people for ministry and enable us to fulfil our calling. Give to those who will choose, wisdom, discernment and patience, and to us give warm and generous hearts, for Jesus Christ s sake. Amen 6

NEXT SUNDAY 10th March am St Thomas Port Lincoln 11am St Matthias Wangary BUSH CHURCH AID The Revd Robert & Mrs Kaye Healy PO Box 394 Mount Lawley WA 6929 Phone Pray for opportunities to speak in churches about the Good Shepherd and those who serve Him across remote and isolated Australia. Pray that His flock will hear His voice and come to Him. The Last Sunday after the Epiphany Sunday 3 March 2019 Exodus ; Psalm 99; 2 Corinthians ; Luke (37-43) This Sunday is the last Sunday of Epiphany, which is a season that celebrates and rejoices in the fact that our God is a God not just for a specific people but for everyone, and that we are called to bring that God into the world. It s fitting that, while we all ponder what we are going to give up during Lent that we hear that great exhortation from Paul in 2 Corinthians to act with great boldness because we have such a hope in Jesus! Strengthened by what we have learned in this season of Epiphany, we continue on our mission in the world having seen the glory of God and showing it to everyone, not veiling our faces or our hearts. Pray that we might unveil our hearts to God further and allow him to move and change us more deeply. Give thanks for the work and witness of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente, the Philippine Independent Church. Text: The Reverend Will Johnston Anglican Board of Mission,
