2 THE STAINED GLASS WINDOW REPAIR PROJECT As of the beginning of April 2016, the Trustees report that we (as a church) have raised $12, toward the repair work necessary in repairing our church s Stained Glass Windows. This amount (thus far received) constitutes approximately 10% of the total monies needed to completely repair all of the windows. As Chairman of the Trustees, I would like to remind our entire congretation of my request (that I personally made back in January of this year) that, if possible, all Committees within our church tithe 10% of their account balance towards this worthwhile endeavor. I would also ask, once again, for the finanicial support of the congregation; for without your help, the windows cannot be restored; and if left unattended/uncared for, will surely have to be removed. It is up to all of us. I ask for your continued support. Thank you. Lawrence C. Palmer Chairman of the Trustees MAY USHERS Gary Irwin, Charles Miller, Doug Osborne, John Fisher, Dave Kirk, and Brian Campbell. JUNE USHERS Chuck Miller, John Ramsey, Dave LaChance, Larry Kaufman, Randy McDonald, and Boyd Epperson. Our condolences go out to LaMar Wyse and his family in the death of his brother, Art, who passed away Sunday, March 27. The funeral service was held March 31 in Matthews, North Carolina. Our sympathies go out to the family of Jim Fendrick. Jim passed away March 30 at Signature Healthcare in Galion. A celebration of Jim s life was held Saturday, April 16 at the church. 5 Food Pantry Food pantry items we are collecting this month include cereal, canned meat, dry or canned milk, and fruit. We are also collecting toothpaste, toilet paper, deodorant, shampoo, and soap. You may put your items in the food pantry cupboard or bring them in the last Sunday of the month. RECIPES of the MONTH Cheese Ball Submitted by Mary Anne Iles 3-8 oz pkgs Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened 1 small 5 oz jar Kraft Pimento cheese spread 1 small 5 oz jar Kraft Old English cheese spread oz jar Armour dried chipped beef, chopped 2 stalks green onions, chopped Mix together, chill. Roll in chopped nuts and parsley flakes. Will make 2 balls or 1 very large one. Serve with crackers. Shrimp Dip Submitted By Mary Anne Iles 1 pint sour cream 1 pkg (8 oz) Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened 2 pkgs Good Seasons Italian salad dressing (dry) 2 cans (4 1/2 oz each) shrimp, drained 1 tsp lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon dill seed Mix all together and store covered in refrigerator. Serve with crackers. This winter, massive flooding hit the Midwest, and Midwest Mission Distribution Center was there quickly getting supplies to those affected. Your generosity, love, and commitment to showing God s grace in a practical way made this possible. You supplied 3,780 cleaning buckets and health kits in the first week of January alone. Preparedness is critical to our mission so we need your help to restock the shelves with 3,000 cleaning buckets. Please consider bringing hope to at least one family who will be affected by a natural disaster in the upcoming months. We can put together an entire cleaning bucket for $55. Your gift would bring hope to a family who is hurting, but most importantly it could be the catalyst to discovering the Good News, which is an eternal gift. We never know when disaster will strike and you never know when a bucket of hope might show up at your door. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken tgether and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, Luke 6:38 Midwest Mission is your Center, and it exists to help you be the light of Christ in this world. Every kit that goes out is packed with love by a volunteer, and every item in the kits was either donated or purchased with donated funds. Midwest Mission operates soley on individual donations, so your support and drive to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ makes this mission happen. -Pat Wright, Executive Director Once again, the Mission Team will be going to Midwest Distribution Center in August to help assemble cleaning buckets. We are currently collecting monetary donations for buckets. At the time of publishing this newsletter we have collected money for 13 flood buckets. Our goal is 20. If you would like to donate to this rewarding project, any amount of money is welcome and can be put in the offering on Sundays or mailed to the church office. Please mark flood bucket on your donation.
6 From the Pastor s Desk, Spirit Alive Pentecost Sunday is May 15. According to Acts 2, the Church was born on the day of Pentecost. Just as Jesus promised, when 120 worshipers, including the Disciples, were fasting and praying in an upper room in Jerusalem, God poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit upon them in a mighty way. Small flames of fire rested upon their heads, and they began to speak and glorify God in other languages. As crowds came to investigate the commotion, Peter spoke to them about Jesus and urged them to turn their lives around and be baptized in the name of Jesus. Then they would be forgiven and would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. From the crowd composed of many nations, 3,000 realized the truth of His words and became followers of Jesus. Empowering them for their mission and gathering them together as a church, the Holy Spirit enabled these first Christians to live out their new faith together, and every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. The story of Pentecost underscores the centrality of the church in God s work in the world. Pentecost invites us to consider our own participation in the fellowship, worship, and mission of the church. It is a time to renew our commitment to live as vital members of the body of Christ, using our gifts to build the church and share the love of Christ with others. The May/June issue of The Upper Room is now available in the rack outside the Pastor s office. COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP DAY Community clean-up day is Friday, May 21. (Sponsored by the City of Galion, the Galion Ministerial Association, and other community groups) Galion residents are encouraged to use this opportunity to do some spring cleaning around the community. The city will be collecting appliances, yard waste, tires, and furniture. Volunteers are needed to help those who need assistance getting items to the curb. There is a volunteer list in the Gathering Area for anyone who would like to help with this project. SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM The Mayor s office will once again run the Summer Lunch Program. They are looking for churches to volunteer a week of their time to pass out lunches. The dates are tentatively June 13th to August 5th between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.. There are 2 or 3 different sites that are visited for a half hour and you may bring books to donate to the children as well as read to them. Typically 2-10 volunteers are needed a day. If you are interested in volunteering for this program please call the office. As you read the church newsletter, take note of how the power of the Holy Spirit is alive and moving in our church and consider how the Spirit might use you in the fulfillment of the church s mission to the community and the world. Pastor Jerry
