Daily Evangelization "God will never desert you" Those of you who are a little older and came to the Catholic Faith as adults might have received your education in the Faith in a variety of ways. One could have been personal instructions with a parish priest; another could have been attending a Convert Class. I remember, as a young priest, offering both options. For the last thirty years or so, those who are interested in joining the Catholic Church usually participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). RCIA is an eight month experience. Here at St Charles, RCIA is held on Monday evenings at 7:00pm, beginning in mid-september, and concluding on Holy Saturday in April. Father Lou Thomas and Deacon Dan Galla will coordinate St Charles RCIA. Evening sessions focus on prayer, beliefs of our Faith, and Catholic practice and tradition. Throughout the eight month RCIA journey, all the pastoral staff members offer various presentations. Who attends RCIA? Lots of nice folks! Some have been married to a Catholic for a while and want to share their spouse s faith, others are planning marriage to a Catholic; some have been baptized in other Christian faiths, some are not baptized; some have had substantial training in another church; some have had little or no experience of church. No commitment is expected upfront; as Jesus once invited people to come and see! St Charles School principal, Eileen Updegrove, tells me that we still have a few seats available in Pre-School, Kindergarten, and Grades One to Six. For more information, give the School Office a call at It has been almost a year since we invited the Evangelizing Sisters of Mary to join our parish and to live in the Charles Avenue Convent. When they arrive, the Sisters will work as nurses at Regina Health Care in Richfield. They also plan to become active, as able, here at St Charles. Currently, the Sisters are still in Tanzania and are awaiting final clearance from U. S. Immigration authorities. The Sisters are most anxious to join us and begin their work. We will continue to monitor their situation and to share that information with you. St Charles Dismas Ministry gives special care to those in jails, in prisons, and to those who after spending time away want to make a fresh and honest start. Those in our Dismas Ministry thank all of you who were so very thoughtful and generous during our greeting cards/stamps collection last spring. There will be a Greeters Training meeting on Wednesday, August 29, at 7:00pm in the John Paul II Room of the Parish Activity Center. All who would like to serve as Greeters are invited to attend.
