1 Parish Mission Statement Immaculate Conception Catholic Church celebrates the Eucharist and proclaims the gospel in worship through our love of God and for each other and with our ministry to the marginalized. We journey together in our faith, united by our trust in Christ s love and mercy and the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Staff Connection... April 16, 2017 Immaculate Conception Church The Lord is risen Alleluia, Alleluia! Easter Joys fill the whole world. St. Paul explains that once sin reigned and we were slaves to sin, but now Christ reigns and we belong to Him! And he concludes Now that you are freed from sin and have become slaves of God, your benefit is sanctification as you tend toward eternal life (Rom 6:22). What a day of glory and victory! Jesus Christ who gave His precious life for our salvation has conquered sin and death. Today we celebrate His resurrection and the beginning and the proof of resurrection for all who try to become other Christs in this world. How do we become Christ-like in the world that glorifies evil and ridicule righteousness? We look at the life and ministry of our Lord. He lived a selfless life, serving all people and faithfully doing the will of His heavenly Father in the face of great opposition and hostility to the point of laying down His life for us. We, the followers of Christ, are called to imitate Him and put to use the grace of Easter to combat evil; negative elements of this life such as poverty, ignorance of the truth of the Gospel message, hatred, war, hunger, violence, sluggish faith, hopelessness and fear. Peace is the message of Easter. The risen Lord appeared to the fear stricken disciples and said to them Peace be with you We live in the world that lacks true peace. Peace is still elusive. The words of the risen Lord during His appearances seem to be addressed to each one of us, our families and the entire human society. We ask the Lord to grant us the grace of this Holy season and flood our hearts and minds with the truth of God s love. In the risen Lord there is no place for fear, only joy and peace. The world and its fears and arrogance hold no power over Christ. May we all be missionaries of the risen Lord; bringing peace, love, reconciliation and joy to our world which is so desperately in need of God s gift of peace that is the fruit of conversion of heart. It will feature Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and finish with the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Make plans to join in this special event. Pasta Dinner The Knights of Columbus Ithaca Council will be hosting a Pasta Dinner on Saturday, April 22 at 5:30pm in the Parish Hall. Fr. Joe Marcoux will be preparing his special sauce again this year! Adults: $8.00 Seniors & Kids 5-12: $6.00 Family: $25 Kids under 5 are free. Proceeds to benefit many different organizations supported by the Knights. Reminder! We have low-gluten Hosts available for those in need for medical or allergy reasons. Please contact Fr. OUR SANCTUARY LAMP WILL BURN THIS WEEK IN MEMORY OF GEORGE FIELD FROM GINNY FIELD Cayuga Ridge Communion Ministers Needed! Perhaps you have noticed two extra Communion ministers enter the sanctuary at the 8:30am Mass on Sundays. These ministers, after receiving the Precious Body & Blood of Christ, are then sent forth to take the Real Presence of Jesus to the Catholic residents at Cayuga Ridge, a nursing and rehabilitation facility. What a beautiful gift to take to others! It takes a number of volunteers to fulfill this ministry, and we are currently in need of more volunteers. Kuwa na Pasaka yenye heri = Have a blessed Easter Mitume = Apostles Volunteers for Catholic Charities Clothing Closet Our local Catholic Charities is recruiting volunteers for the busy Clothing Closet, which provides community members free clothing, shoes, blankets, sheets, and many more items. The Clothing Closet gets close to visits per day, and gives away around 2,000 free items per month! This service keeps elders dressed warmly in winter, provides kids with school clothes, and enables adults to find appropriate attire for interviews and work. Volunteers who can commit to 3 hours a week, enjoy helping others, and want to be a part of a strong community of kindness are asked to contact Michaela at ext. 10/MCortright@dor.org. Cathedral Hosts Easter Lessons & Carols On Sunday, April 30 at 2:00pm, the Rochester Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians will host Easter Lessons & Carols at Sacred Heart Cathedral. This service of scripture and music will include music by guest choirs as well as congregational song. High School Music Ministry Recognition Awards will be given to twenty-three teens from around the diocese as well as continuing education scholarships to five adults involved in music ministry. Join us as we celebrate as an Easter People with Alleluia as our song! All are welcome. When spiritual leadership is lacking in a parish even the best of plans will not come to fruition. This noble leadership role is done best by those who are motivated by the love of Christ and its mission to the world. With this in mind, kindly nominate persons, or yourself who will serve with joy the needs of our parish. Consider gender, age and other existing diversities of the Parish. I nominate to serve a regular three-year term on our Pastoral Council. I nominate to serve a one-year member as a youth member of our Pastoral Council.
