(Genesis 2:19) The creation story reminds us of two important points. First, since the start, God has put the entire world into our care. Second, stewardship has been around since the beginning of mankind, it isn t something recently invented by the Church. Just as past generations built our Church, it is now our responsibility to continue to nurture and develop these gifts for future generations. ST. ANN ADULT FAITH FORMATION OPPORTUNITY MONDAY NIGHT 7 PM ST. THOMAS AQUINAS ROOM READING THE BIBLE AS CATHOLICS This evening presentation will also be given to the candidates and catechumens of St. Ann s RCIA. Join us to learn more about the Catholic Faith while also getting to know and welcome the many men and women who are discerning entry into the Catholic Church. Today on Respect Life Sunday we are asked to consider what our attitude is toward the vulnerable in our society: unborn children; the sick, disabled, and elderly; those burdened by poverty, injustice, & discrimination. Pope Francis, in his apostolic exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel, counsels us: "The defense of unborn life is closely linked to the defense of each and every other human right. It involves the conviction that a human being is always sacred and inviolable, in any situation and at every stage of development. Human beings are ends in themselves and never a means of resolving other problems. Once this conviction disappears, so do solid and lasting foundations for the defense of human rights, which would always be subject to the passing whims of the powers that be." Taking Pope Francis' words to heart, we invite you to proclaim the Gospel of life during October Respect Life Month through participation in the following activities: October 4: LIFE CHAIN: TODAY from 1:30-2:30 PM. October 10-11, 17-18, & 24-25: ROSARY FOR LIFE: 3:35 PM Saturday & 8:35 AM Sunday in church (preceding the 4 PM & 9 AM Masses). Next week's intention is that the lives of all unborn children may once again be protected by law, and that the mothers and fathers victimized by abortion may receive the healing & forgiveness offered to them by our loving God. For the conversion of all those involved in the abortion industry and the closing of all abortion facilities. October 11-Nov. 1: Knights of Columbus/Respect Life Committee co-sponsored BABY SHOWER to benefit the Wyandotte Pregnancy Center. Bring items to place in the crib located in the downstairs gathering space or in the decorated boxes in the church vestibules. October 11 (NEXT SUNDAY): St. Ann's day to support the on-going 40 Days for Life prayer vigil at the Center for Women's Health abortion clinic (4840 College Blvd, Overland Park, Ks). Do you know that the Archdiocese assesses us the $19 subscription fee for every registered family which last year amounted to almost $20,000? 6 Monthly Food Collection For Catholic Charities Food Pantry Next weekend October 10/11 Please bring your canned and non-perishable food items to church with you next weekend and leave in the downstairs gathering space to the west of the doors. The Center is especially in need of: canned fruit, cereal, canned tuna, boxed potatoes, pasta, refried beans, spaghetti sauce, coffee/tea, pancake mix/syrup, sugar, flour, toilet paper toothbrushes, toothpaste, and deodorant. We will meet, Tuesday Oct. 13, from 9:00-11:00, at the home of Suzanne Mogren, 3101 W. 75th St. Please feel free to come for as long as you can during this time. We would love to have you join us. First timers are welcome! We need the following items as we get ready to pack for the holidays: AA and AAA batteries, chapstick, razors, socks, gloves, hats, feminine products, lotions, shampoo, games, puzzle books etc. The men and women also appreciate dried fruit, nuts, canned meat, peanut butter and crackers, chewing gum, beef jerky, popcorn and other snacks. Remember that we welcome your cash donations as we have shoppers who do bargain hunting for us and cash is also needed for postage. Mr. Cunningham will still be able to repair your broken rosaries if they are dropped off at Curè of Ars parish at 9401 Mission Rd. in Leawood, KS. He will call when they are ready to be picked up at Curè of Ars. No donations of rosaries can be accepted, but only broken rosaries at this time.
