1 December 18th, 2016 Pre-K Christmas 3 (PS Planet 4) A Savior, Who Is Christ the Lord!!! Lesson Highlights: Scripture References: Luke 2:1-20 Teaching Point: The Savior of the world is born. Catch Phrase: We have joy because of Jesus! Unit Memory Verse: Luke 2:10-11: And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Alternate Memory Verse: Luke 2:14a: Glory to God in the highest ABC Verse: Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Story Snap Shot Out in the field, it took only one angel to tell shepherds that a baby is born. But we see thousands filling the sky to proclaim a simple truth. That truth is that the Son of God became flesh and dwelt among us. Peace on earth, good will to men God s son came us so that we might become the children of God! 1 P a g e
2 4, PreK Christmas 3: A Savior, Who Is Christ the Lord Questions to Ask the Kids: How has everybody been doing? Are you glad you are not in school? Having a good holiday break? Read: Are you ready for the Christmas holiday? We are getting closer! What makes Christmas so much fun? Why do we celebrate Christmas again? Well today we continue our Christmas story! Read Luke 2:1-5 Have you ever gone on a long road trip? Well Mary went on a long road trip riding a donkey! Was Mary going to have a baby? (Yes.) What was the name of the baby? (Jesus.) Can you imagine how tired she was? Read Luke 2:6-8 What was Jesus placed in? (A manger.) What is a manger? (It was a for trough for animals.) Who was close by? (Shepherds.) Who do you like close by when you are sleeping? Read Luke 2:9-13 What did the angel announce? (The angel announced the birth of Jesus.) 2 P a g e

(Jesus was born and was going to save them from their sins!) Do you know what I am learning? We have joy because of Jesus!!! End in Prayer After the Rally Idea: Pretend you hear a noise and pull out a puppet! 1. Greet the kids by reading the names on the board!!! 2. What songs did you rally? 3. What was the story about? 4. What are we learning? (use the catch phrase.end in prayer) Prayer Time Before you pray, allow the kids time to share with you things that are happening in their lives. Be sure you write these down with their names for you to pray for as the week goes along. Ask about the things they mentioned the previous week. As the leader, open by thanking God for this lesson: Praise God for sending His only Son to save us from our sins. Ask God to help us to celebrate Jesus this Christmas. Pray for any specific requests named either by praying yourself or by opening it up to those who said they would pray. 3 P a g e
4 4, PreK Christmas 3: A Savior, Who Is Christ the Lord Suggested Follow-up Activities Teachers are free to choose the activities that they feel are best for their group. The idea is that as the children work and play, remind them of the truths they just learned. Scripture Memory: Figure out your reward system for memorizing the Scriptures provided in this section. Give the children several opportunities to tell it to you either when they first arrive or at the end of class. Craft: Touch and Feel Manger Remind them we learned about the birth of the baby boy who was the Savior, Christ the Lord. He is the long-awaited one who is truly God and truly man who came to save us from our sins. When we believe in Him, we do as the angels proclaimed we give glory to God in the highest and bring to earth His peace. Give each child a cardstock copy of the craft pages. Provide each table with the various things they need to complete their picture. Have them then layer all of these pieces in place beginning with the craft sticks as legs for the manger, and placing the manger on top. Have them apply the cereal or straw to the manger as well as the roof and side of the stable. Finally, have them wrap the baby with fabric scraps and carefully glue him in place on the manger. Yellow glitter paint can be added to the star as well. Materials: cardstock copies of the scene and figures; 2 ½ inch mini craft sticks for the manger legs, if desired; small pieces of straw or shredded wheat cereal, crushed; small scraps of fabric; liquid glue; yellow glitter paint Craft: Christmas Star Remind them we learned about the birth of the baby boy who was the Savior, Christ the Lord. He is the long-awaited one who is truly God and truly man who came to save us from our sins. When we believe in Him, we do as the angels proclaimed we give glory to God in the highest and bring to earth His peace. Tell the kids that even though we didn t talk about it today, we know from other writings that on the day Jesus was born, God proclaimed it not just to shepherds, but to everyone by putting a special star in the sky to declare His glory. Today, we re going to make a star ornament to remind us of this special birth. 4 P a g e
5 December 18th, 2016 Pre-K Christmas 3 (PS Planet 4) A Savior, Who Is Christ the Lord!!! Give each child pieces of plastic straws that have been cut into ½ to 1 inch pieces. Also give them a variety of beads and three chenille stems (pipe cleaners). Have them bend one end of a chenille stem so that the first bead is caught and showing them your example, have them thread it with any arrangement of beads and straws they d like. When they get to about ¾ of an inch from the end, help them to see how they can connect another stem to that end and continue threading on beads and straws. They ll repeat this with the third one. Have those kids who are finished beading use a copy of the star as a guide to bend theirs following the numbers on the page. When they get to the top, help them to join their two stem ends and secure a ribbon on it for hanging. Materials: chenille stems; copies of star templates; various colored straws; various colored beads; scissors; ribbon Craft: Sticker Story Remind them we learned about the birth of the baby boy who was the Savior, Christ the Lord. He is the long-awaited one who is truly God and truly man who came to save us from our sins. When we believe in Him, we do as the angels proclaimed we give glory to God in the highest and bring to earth His peace. Give each child a cardstock copy of the manger scene making sure that the scene of the field is copied on back. Also, give each child a copy of the figures. Have them color and cut out their figures. Have them use restickable glue and position each figure as you work through the story beginning with the birth of Jesus moving to the scene in the field and then finally, placing the shepherds by the manger. Younger Child Option: Have the figures cut out prior to class. For the very young, you can go ahead and place glue on the back of the figures and stick them to a separate page that they can simply peel them off of and place on their scenes as you go through the story. Materials: cardstock copies of the scenes for easier peeling off of stickers; markers or crayons; scissors; restickable glue 5 P a g e
6 4, PreK Christmas 3: A Savior, Who Is Christ the Lord Craft: Christmas Story Squares (Older Children) Remind them we learned about the birth of the baby boy who was the Savior, Christ the Lord. He is the long-awaited one who is truly God and truly man who came to save us from our sins. When we believe in Him, we do as the angels proclaimed we give glory to God in the highest and bring to earth His peace. Have the kids cut around both squares and carefully cut each of the four windows on the one without pictures. Have them place the windows over the picture square by putting 1. Mary and Joseph at the top. This will show you four pictures about those words. Turn the windows until 2. The Manger is at the top and four new pictures about those words will appear. Have them turn the windows until they see all 4 sets of stories. Next, they can take the windows and turn it over completely so that the words face inward. As they rotate it, they will see 1 picture with 3 sets of words that describe part of the story of Jesus birth. If time allows, have them color the pictures as they d like. Materials: copies of the two story squares for each child; scissors; crayons or markers 6 P a g e
