1 Lesson Highlights: Scripture References: Genesis 6:1-9:15 Teaching Point: When man s rebellion against God increases, Noah alone is found righteous and is used by God to demonstrate His holiness and His mercy. Story Snap Shot The fall of mankind in Genesis 3 provides the reason for the violence and depravity found on the earth in the time of Noah. Instead of finding a fellowship with God and one another, we find an escalation in separation from God that is filled with sin. God will reveal His wrath against all humanity. However, God shows His mercy and gives a glimpse into His forthcoming plan by saving a remnant and accepting a sacrifice that appeases His anger. Even with this sacrifice though sin remains. 2 Planet 1, PreK OT Lesson 5: God s Leaders Are Faithful Questions to Ask the Kids: Good morning how are we doing? How is school going? How is your teacher at school? Do you like them? Do you think teachers love their students? Do teachers try to remain loving even when students can be grouchy or mean? Read: All teachers love their students and cannot wait to teach! Sometimes kids can be grouchy. This reminds me of your story about a leader who loved God! Noah was a faithful man. However, Noah was surrounded by mean grouchy people! Let s see what we can learn about God from the story of Noah! Read: Genesis 6:5-8 What were the people like? (People were totally evil.) How did God feel? (God was sorry He had created mankind.) What was the plan of God in verse 7? (God will destroy mankind.) Who found favor in God s eyes? (Noah.) Was Noah perfect? (No.) Did Noah ever sin? (Yes.) Read: Genesis 6:13-17 What is the plan of God? (Destroy the earth and have Noah build an arc.) What is an ark? (It is a giant boat.) 2 P a g e

3 What will God do? (God will flood the entire earth.) Read: Genesis 6:18-21 Who will enter the ark? (Noah s family and a bunch of animals.) What will Noah s ark be carrying? (It will be carrying a lot of animals and food!) Did Noah obey? (Yes.) What does this tell you about God s leaders? (God s leaders are faithful.) Genesis 7:5-9 Do you think the ark was crowded? (Yes.) Genesis 8:1 What happened? (God remembered Noah and the water receded.) Does God honor His promises or covenants? (Yes.) Is it important the God keeps His promises? Why? Genesis 9:13-16 What appears in the sky after some rain and the sun breaks thru the clouds? (You can sometimes see a rainbow.) What was the other promise of God? God showed His faithfulness by saving Noah and a lot of animals! Do you know what I am learning? God s leaders are faithful!!! End in Prayer After the Rally Idea: Pretend you hear a noise and pull out a puppet! 1. Greet the kids by reading the names on the board!!! 2. What songs did you rally? 3. What was the story about? 4. What are we learning? (use the catch phrase.end in prayer) Prayer Time Before you pray, allow the kids time to share with you things that are happening in their lives. Be sure you write these down with their names for you to pray for as the week goes along. Ask about the things they mentioned the previous week. As the leader, open by thanking God for this lesson: Praise God for being a faithful God when His people are faithless. Ask God to open our eyes to our sin and to turn from it day after day so that we might truly find life in Him. Pray for any specific requests named either by praying yourself or by opening it up to those who said they would pray. Activities and Crazy Ideas Activity 1: Stand Out Show different pictures of something that is standing out. For example, you may find a picture of black umbrellas but in the middle is a red one. This was like Noah in a dark world. Noah was faithful by God s grace! Remind them of the story of Noah. 4 P a g e

5 Activity 2: Will It Work Show pictures of different kinds boats. You could even show pictures of people who were stranded for days at sea in a lifeboat. Ask them if it would keep them alive for 150 days like Noah. Could it hold all of the world s animals? Remind them of the story of Noah! Activity 3: Will It Work Part 2 Show pictures of old flying machines. Most all of these flying inventions did not work. They were not built for the task of flying. However the Wright brothers built the right kind of plane to achieve flight. Noah was built or made to be a faithful follower of God! Remind them of the story of Noah! Activity 3: Build an Arc Get on Youtube and show the kids how to make a paper boat! Remind the kids of their lesson! Activity 4: What Animal Am I Materials: Large sheet of paper, marker Say Let s think of the names of enough animals to fill this whole paper! Give hints of animals if children have difficulty thinking of animals. (ex. I m thinking of an animal with (a very long trunk, red feathers, white fur, etc.) Activity 5: Who Am I Variation to Activity 1 above; same materials Fill up an additional sheet of paper with other lists: names of people God shows His love towards (use the children s names), names of people God loves no matter what, names of people that God forgives, describe them in a very positive way! Activity 6: Guess the Leader Do fun impressions of leaders in movies and cartoons. Many of these characters are the lead role. Any Disney movie will work well. Ask the kids how are they leading? Is it good leadership or bad? Remind the kids that God creates leaders. God is looking for good leaders! Activity 7: Pin the Animal on the Ark Print off a large copy of the ark and tape it onto a wall at about the eye height of your kids. Copy and cut 5 P a g e

6 Planet 1, PreK OT Lesson 5: God s Leaders Are Faithful out the rest of the figures and either use sticky tack or restickable glue on the back of each as the kids play. Blindfold each child, turn them toward the wall and ask them to place their figure without touching the wall once they are close enough to stick their figure on. Repeat until each child has a chance to stick on a piece and see who came closest. Materials: copies of the templates; scissors; tape; sticky tack or restickable glue Activity 8: Animals on the Ark Using the large dry erase board..draw an ark and allow the kids to draw animals on the ark. Activity 9: Animal on the Ark blindfolded Using the large dry erase board..draw an ark and allow the kids to draw animals on the ark. BUT they must do it blind folded. The animals will look funny and may not even be on the ark! Remind the kids that God is in control and has order! Suggested Follow-up Activities Teachers are free to choose the activities that they feel are best for their group. The idea is that as the children work and play, remind them of the truths they just learned. Scripture Memory: Figure out your reward system for memorizing the Scriptures provided in this section. Give the children several opportunities to tell it to you either when they first arrive or at the end of class. Craft: Ark Mobile Remind the kids that we talked about Noah today. He alone was found to be righteous out of all the people of the earth. He was told to build an ark to hold his family plus animals from all the kinds of animals there are. The story of the flood is tragic, but points to the depth of our sin and the coming of Jesus to bear God s wrath against His people. God gave us all a sign. The rainbow in the sky is His reminder that God promised never to flood the earth again. Give each child a copy of the two craft pages. Have them color and cut them out. Glue the rainbow to the back of the ark and waves and glue the sun in place as shown. Punch holes where indicated on the bottom of the waves and also on the animals. Have them use varying lengths of yarn to tie the animals in place. Tie a longer piece to the top so it can be hung. 6 P a g e

7 Materials: cardstock copies of the craft pages; markers or crayons; stick glue or tape; scissors; yarn or string; hole punch Craft: Bringing in the Animals Remind the kids that we talked about Noah today. He alone was found to be righteous out of all the people of the earth. He was told to build an ark to hold his family plus animals from all the kinds of animals there are. The rainbow in the sky is His reminder that God promised never to flood the earth again. Have the kids color their ark any way they d like. Next have them take a piece of dark blue construction paper and cut it out to be waves and glue it over the bottom of the boat and paper. Hand them each some cotton balls and show them how to pull them apart slightly to make clouds. Have them glue those to the sky. Next have them glue the figure of Noah and his wife somewhere on the boat deck. After that, have the kids glue some of the animals on the boat. You could also use small, animal stickers instead of the cutouts. Alternate Craft Option: After gluing Noah and his wife to the deck of the ark, hand each child a length of brown or black, crepe paper streamer. Have them glue or tape it in place at the bottom of the door of the ark to form a ramp. Give each child foam animal stickers or use the cutouts provided to make a line of animals walking up the ramp. If there s time, give each child pipe cleaners in the colors of the rainbow and have them form one at the top of their ark using tape on the back to hold them in place. Materials: copies of the ark; scissors; glue; markers or crayons; cotton balls; animal templates or stickers Craft/Game: Rainbow Parachute Craft Remind the kids that we talked about Noah today. He alone was found to be righteous out of all the people of the earth. He was told to build an ark to hold his family plus animals from all the kinds of animals there are. 8 Planet 1, PreK OT Lesson 5: God s Leaders Are Faithful can play. Remind the kids every rainbow is actually a full circle we can only see part of it. So our rainbows are going to be the full circle. Hand each child a coffee filter and have them color it in rainbow order from the outside of the circle in. Next have them punch out four holes on opposite sides of the coffee filter and tie 4 (12 inch) strings to the filter. Next have them tie all the strings around either a craft stick or a pipe cleaner trying to make sure that the strings stay the same length. This should make a parachute that they can throw and let float as it drops. If it s too heavy for the size coffee filters you have, use a smaller, lighter object. Make sure their names are on it and have the kids set them off to the side in one place. Before you play tape off an outline of a square in the middle of an area or place a box there. Have the kids get their parachutes and stand a good distance away from the square. Remind the kids that the reason the flood happened is because of sin. The Bible talks about sin using several different words; one of those is the word trespass. To trespass means to miss the mark. Let them see what they can do with their parachutes. Ask them to hit the mark every time. At the end of the game: We just saw the meaning of the word trespass. Sometimes we just rebel. We are told what to do and we just say, No. I ll do what I want. Sometimes we may obey, but we don t do it the way we should maybe we do it with a bad attitude, or we don t work as hard as we can or we don t do all of it. Like the parachutes, we may get close sometimes and sometimes even hit it right. But God requires perfection. That s why Jesus had to come and live a perfect life. Christ hit the mark every time. You never will be able to do it right every time. We have to trust Him, not us.
