You need to be on it to attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (AGM) on Sunday 30 th April and to vote in elections to the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and Deanery Synod. If you wish to stand for election to either of these bodies you must have been on the Electoral Roll for not less than six months, you must be over 16 and you must be an 'actual communicant' as defined in rule 54(1) of the Church Representation Rules. From Sunday 26th March there will be a board in the Welcome Area with the names of the people on the current Electoral Roll so that you can check that you are on it. If not, please fill in an application form. If anybody on the list has moved in the last year please tell Richard Crawley. For further information, contact Richard on or richard.crawley1@gmail.com Annual General Meeting The Parish meeting to elect churchwardens will be held on Sunday 30 th April in church at pm, followed by the AGM. This year, there are elections for our 4 Deanery Synod representatives, as well as 7 vacancies for PCC members. In the first instance, please speak to Lee if you might be interested in standing for any of these positions. Nomination forms are at the back of church and completed forms should be returned to Dizzy Prentice, PCC Secretary, by hand, or via the Safeguarding tray in the Minister s Vestry. Do you have a spare room? Sarah Slack s daughter Sophie is studying at Valencia University and a couple of Spanish friends from there are coming to Nottingham for 3 months from June to improve their English. Does anyone have a spare room/granny flat that they could rent? They would be independent and cook etc. for themselves. The students will be back at University in Spain in September. They are expecting to pay for the accommodation. If anyone can help please call Sarah on Book Groups The Evening Group are reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and will meet to talk about it at Daphne's (49 Cambridge Road) on Monday 1 st May at 8.00pm. New readers are welcome - for more details, please ask Johanna Langheld.
Seniors Coffee The next Seniors' Coffee Morning will be at Bradmore Garden Centre on Tuesday 11 th April at 10.30am. If you would like to play, please contact Matt Keown on or speak to him in church all standards are very welcome, and most especially if you re new to St Giles! Youth Nights There will be no youth nights during the Easter school holidays, on Fridays 7 th & 14 th April. Back to normal on Friday 21 st April check the bulletin for details. Adventure Golf The next Seniors event is a game of Adventure Golf at the Cornerhouse on Friday 21 st April. Meet in the Golf reception at 11am. This always proves to be an enjoyable and competitive morning with a prize for the lowest score. A sign up sheet is at the back of church so we can book our places. Ladies Evening This month s Ladies Evening will be Wednesday 12 th April at 8pm, at Mud Crab. Please speak to Doreen Ottway if you would like to know more. Road to Freedom In May this year one of our congregation, Peter Rhodes, will be participating in a fundraising event for the Snowdrop Project. This charity helps survivors of people trafficking by providing long term help and rehabilitation, reducing the risk of repeated trafficking. It will be familiar to many who attended the Women s Breakfast where its founder and CEO Lara spoke so movingly about their vital work. For more details take a look at snowdropproject.co.uk. The Road to Freedom fundraiser aims to secure the services of a counsellor and involves cycle 140 miles from Prague to Dresden, over 3 days. Peter will be covering the costs in taking part himself, so all donations will go straight to the charity - Peter s target is 1100! Please help him to achieve this by going to or see Peter in church. Thank you.
St. Giles YouTube Channel If you would like to listen to the talks that were given on the recent church weekend away, then go to the St. Giles YouTube channel, at where all 3 are available. There s also a great, short film which captures what our faithful prayers heard that God was saying to us as a church family during the recent 24:7 prayer event. Church Drive The spring edition of Church Drive, focuses on carers and caring, is available at the back of church and on the website. St Giles Mission Partners From the Friends International Prayer Diary: The International Student Track at Word Alive is an annual gathering of Christian international students to help prepare them to return home. It runs as a teaching program within the Word Alive conference. Please pray for the 2017 track, that it would be well attended and that it would be a great time of fellowship, studying the Word and preparation for returning home for the students. Elizabeth & David Dunford are now home from their visit to Lesotho. It was wonderful to see the progress made at Fusi school. Your pens and pencils were safely delivered and photos can be seen on the mission notice-board. We look forward to telling everyone more about developments there and why your continuing support is still needed. Please continue to bring your donations (esp. jeans waist 30 & 32 ) into church (box near the front door) or take them to the Friary on Musters Road, or to their depot at Unit 6C Ludlow Hill Road, WB, NG2 6HF open Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am 3pm. Thank you. Christian Aid East Africa Crisis Appeal Christian Aid is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee, which has launched a national emergency appeal in East Africa, where 16 million people urgently need food. The situation is deteriorating rapidly. We must act now. Please donate to the Christian Aid East Africa Crisis Appeal, using the envelopes in church or online at The UK Government will match every pound raised by the public for this DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal for the first 5m. Thank you.
christian aid week 2017 Christian Aid Week was set up 60 years ago to help refugees in Europe following the Second World War. Christian Aid's focus this year for Christian Aid week is refugees stuck in camps in Southern Europe, unable to return to their home countries due to war or famine, and unwelcome elsewhere. Nejebar s family fled Afghanistan after the Taliban threatened to kill her husband, Noor, who was a teacher. When the family arrived at the refugee camp in Greece, they thought they would only stay for 10 days. But they ve been there six months now. Their only protection against the wind and rain is a tent. There is no school for their children. The safe peaceful future they long for seems like a distant dream. Let's act to help relieve suffering and build a world where everyone has a safe place to call home. The Big Event will take place in church on Saturday 20 th May, pm. There will be food & bar, raffle & auction, bingo, quiz sheets and fabulous jazz entertainment from Paul Ricard & friends! The evening is suitable for all ages do invite your friends along! Tickets will be available later this month: 7.50 for adults, 2.50 for children. The Plant Sale will be held as usual in mid May, so please wait to buy your tomato, vegetable and flower plants from green fingered Averyl, Dizzy and co, rather than rushing off to the garden centre before then! Lots of other fundraising activities will be taking place through the week, including the House to House Collections and the Friday Cake Break (on Friday 12 th May). If you would like to get involved in the fundraising effort for Christian Aid in May then please do speak to Rachel Gregory after the 9am service on Sundays. rachelsgregory@btinternet.com or or
Good Friday Workshop St Giles Church Friday 14 th April 10am 12pm Come and enjoy a morning of Crafts, Fun and Games, together with refreshments, songs and the Easter story explained. Easter Is Coming... We are running the Good Friday workshop again this year for pre-school and primary aged children: 10am-12noon on Friday 14 th April. This is a hugely popular event to which many children bring friends too. We do lots of crafts and tell the Easter story. To run the event we need loads of helpers, for craft activities, welcomers on the door, musicians and refreshment makers! Please let Sarah or Ellen know if you can help - those leading stalls will need to complete child protection paperwork if not already DBS cleared by the church Contact Sarah Moppett after 8pm or Ellen s details are on the back of the bulletin. Good Friday Workshop time to sign up! The Good Friday Workshop will be held on Friday 14 th April, 10am 12pm, for primary aged children (pre-schoolers are welcome too, but they need to have a parent or carer stay with them). Please pick up a registration form at the back of church and let Claire Sheard know if your child(ren) will be there - it helps with planning to have an idea of how many children will be coming. Completed forms and 3 per child will be collected on the morning.
