2 Course/Module description: The seminar will inquire the Warsaw ghetto on three interrelated levels: a. the Nazi policy towards the Jews b. internal Jewish life in the ghetto as part of the part of the urban city of Warsaw. We will mostly deal with the transformation of fundamental concepts in the ghetto such as "time", "body", "space", "communication", public sphere", "solidarity", etc. c. we will compare the ghetto to other zones of catastrophe under siege e.g. Leningrad during the war. These three levels of inspection can give us a very broad perception of the meaning of the Warsaw ghetto in modern history. Course/Module aims: The goals of this seminar is to better understand the historical character of the Warsaw ghetto and to be able to read in a cultural historical and critical way texts that were written in the ghetto. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: To better understand the historical phenomenon of the Warsaw ghetto and mostly the internal Jewish life there. The Students will be able to read and analyze texts taht were written in the ghetto in broad historical and cultural contexts. Attendance requirements(%): 100 Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Conducting a discussion in class on texts that were read in advance by the students.
