1 Our Purpose... Our Vision... Where we want to go! Our vision is to engage in relevant ministry that empowers individuals and Why we exist! To God be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:21 responds to the needs of the diverse community in which we live. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20 Our Mission What we do! Our Core Values... How we do it! Our mission is to offer Christ-centered fellowship, and holistic ministry that meets the needs of the whole person: spiritually, mentally, and physically. We intentionally seek to love our neighbor as ourselves, save souls, and transform lives by proclaiming gospel truth to power and providing purpose driven programs. The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor. Luke 4:18-19 We value excellence: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men..colossians 3:23 We value growth: But grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:18. We value unity: Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers and sisters to dwell together in unity! Psalm 133:1 We value hospitality: And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded. Matthew 10:42 We value diversity: We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. Romans 12:6 We value sacrifice: And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice. 2 Beloved, Today is our 75 th Annual Women s Day. It is a day when we celebrate the accomplishments of women to this great ministry and chart a course forward to be greater. Our theme is Women of God: Growing in Christ, Compelled to Serve. As Baptists we believe in the priesthood of all believers. That includes men and women. If Bethany is to be greater, we must be open to equal participation of all of God s creation, namely women. There are many biblical examples of divinely called women: Miriam prophet; played major role in Exodus; led worship singing and dancing. Deborah prophet; judge; led Israeli troops into battle with Barak Hulda prophet; authorized the Torah Anna prophet who pronounced Jesus to be the redemption of Israel Lydia business woman who became a central leader in the Philippian Church Priscilla helped Paul establish churches at Corinth and Ephesus; corrected Apollo s preaching Phoebe deacon; commended by Paul for her service to the church Women s Day signals that it is a new day! It s time to grow in Christ and serve! We are a first-century church in the twenty-first century. We emphasize the foundational truths of the early church as revealed in Acts 2:42-47, And they continued steadfastly in the apostle s doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread and in prayers And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. At Bethany, men and women are seeking to grow warmer through fellowship, deeper through discipleship, stronger through worship, broader through ministry, and larger through evangelism. To that end, I am asking every disciple to find a place to contribute. Your gender neither empowers nor disqualifies you. In the words of the African proverb, Because we are I am and because I am we are. Bethany is who she is because of you. What difference has that made for you and Bethany? The Scriptures declare, The day you hear my voice, harden not your heart. God has called you to this place for such a time as this. So let s do this! The journey is just beginning!! 4 Litany for Women s Day We bless you, O God, for people of every color, race and creed; people past and present; people at home and abroad, who worship you with true and upright hearts. Your mighty deeds, O Lord, make us glad. Because of what you have done, we sing for joy. We bless you, O God, for the women among them: Women of faith, known and unknown, who have served you with love, dedication and courage. Your mighty deed, O God, make us glad. Because of what you have done, we sing for joy. We bless you for women of the past: Sarah mother of Israel and mediator of the promise, who continues to be a model of faith to us. We bless you for Miriam, psalmist and proclaimer of liberation, who led her people to freedom. We remember Esther, queen and liberator, who courageously risked her life to save her people. And Hannah, who prayed and waited patiently for a son, and then gave him back to you. We think of Deborah, judge and prophetess; of Huldah, who helped her people to hear the law of God and change their ways. We think of women: women who through the centuries have given themselves in service to God and people. Because of what you have done, we sing for joy. We believe in women involved in service and mission today. We believe in our purpose, the goal of helping women become effectively involved in the mission of the Church, meeting needs wherever they are. We believe that women with a personal dedication to Christ, and a receiving of His power, will fulfill that purpose. Because of what you have done through women, we sing for joy. Who are we as women, involved in service and mission? We are the Sarahs, Miriams, Esthers, Hannahs, Deborahs, and Huldahs of today.

5 We are the Annas, sharing the Good News of Jesus with others. We are the Marys, thoughtful, meditative and devoted, trying to get our priorities straight. We are the Marthas, eager, aggressive, and desirous to service. We are the Susannas and Johannas, providing for the work of the Lord through our means. Because of what you have done, we sing for joy. Our name may be Lydia, the businesswoman whose heart the Lord opened, and who showed hospitality and generosity. Are we the Rhodas, excited and thrilled, yet forgetting to open the door? We are the Phoebes, leading in our churches, helping many in their pilgrimage of faith. Because of what you have done through women, we sing for joy. Priscilla is also our name, teaching the fullness of the gospel as we lead our church into the total mission and ministry of our larger conferences. And then there is Dorcas how many of us bear that name? Sewing, quilting, helping those in need through local relief organizations. Our names may be Lois and Eunice, grandmother and mother, whose influence on young lives will bear fruit. Because of what you have done, we sing joy. We are women of the upper room, constantly in prayer, awaiting the power promised by our Lord. We are the unnamed women on the Day of Pentecost, receiving the Holy Spirit. We are women involved in service and mission. Like our counterparts in Scripture. We pray that we may serve, with vigor and enthusiasm, with courtesy and kindness, with love and compassion, making Christ known throughout the world. Your mighty deeds, O God, make us glad. Because of what you have done and continue to do through women involved in service and mission through all women everywhere we sing for joy.
