Happening This Month Happy Summer! June 2016 I m ready. I m really ready. I have always loved school and looked forward to a new school year. However as May turns into June, it is time for a break, time for a breath, time to be done with projects, logging reading, and all that homework. June is our time to breathe again. I assume that after our kids are done with school, summer begins to feel different. No longer do we have those school challenges in our homes, but I believe we still need that breath. Life can become so busy and we need that vacation away to relax and take in the joys of lounging with God. We rush though our days so quickly and there are times when we wonder what direction we even our facing. It is so easy to make sure our schedules are full of important things to do and yet because of the pace we run, we have no time to stop, reflect, and pray about what is important in our lives. Summer is a Sabbath time for so many. It is for me. Adult Education classes and studies take a break in the summer. Choir has concluded until fall. The band doesn t practice as regularly. Many committees and church boards take at least a month off for that needed breather. This leaves other opportunities to focus on time with God and how God is leading us into new ways. It may be that there is an opportunity for focused study and reflection. It could be that there is a shorter commitment for us to take part in like Vacation Bible School or the Health Fair. You may even be considering ways to connect with the community or how you will invite your friends to worship this summer or in the fall for our annual Back to Church Sunday. There are so many ways God may be using you for God s glory and summer can be a wonderful time to discern that, regroup, refocus and energize. Therefore, as you relax, regroup, and play, may you take time aside from your book, the beach or pool or your favorite park to ask, How is God calling me to serve this summer? What do you want me to do for you, God, here in my community? Who do I need to spend some more time with, not for me, but to help them experience your love more clearly? May you continue to find ways to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and re-energize in your faith during this beautiful summertime. Many Blessings, Save the Dates! July 3-11:00 a.m. Worship in the Park July 21-5:30-8:30 p.m. Free Health Fair Rev. Laura C. Kelsey, Pastor
2 June Scriptures & Sermon Titles 10:00 a.m. A Future of Hope With Our People Please keep the following in your prayers: Jane & Mike Baker, Audrey Bee, Dan Cassidy, Guy & Nancy Duffield, Lou Fischer, Anne Heitsch, Jean Hilderley, Ann & Bob Newill, Ben Offrink, Fred Sartell, Larry & Maria Sayre, Justina Warren and Kristie Walsh. Also, please keep in your prayers our people in the military: Lizz Huntoon, Blake Robertoy, and Dan Walsh. "For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope." Jeremiah 29:11. The image of a tree and the progression of the growth of living things offers a way to focus on our own growth as the people of God: who we are and what we are called to do and be. In a time when hope is needed so desperately by so many, it is good to be reminded that not everything is a quick fix and patience is sometimes needed. We plant the seeds for a Future with Hope and wait in the knowledge that God is always present The Planting 2 Corinthians 9: The Nurturing James 3: The Residing Jeremiah 29: The Building Ephesians 4: :30 a.m. The Prayer of Jesus "Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name..." Matthew 6:9 This series, which began in May, takes 5 weeks to focus on the Lord's Prayer. Worship each week hones in on a part of the prayer and draws us into examination and implementation of it in a relational way Give Us This Day Matthew 6: Holy Communion Sunday As We Forgive Matthew 6: Deliver Us Matthew 6: To Be Determined Session Actions from June 2016 Elizabeth Huntoon Peggy Johnson Marybeth Todd Dick Euler Blake Fodor Sandy Guzmán Kathryn Ogg Belliotti If you would like to have your name on this birthday list, please call the church office. 1. The motion was made and approved to accept Steve Keith s resignation from Session with regret, and have the Clerk send him a letter of appreciation for his service. 3. The motion was amended and passed to have combined worship services, weather permitting, held at the city park at 11 am on July, 3, and September 4, and at Hess Hathaway Park on August 14 at 11 a.m. combined with the Church picnic.

We would like to set up on Wednesday, July 20 beginning at 5:30 p.m., moving tables, taping arrows to the floors, and putting up signs. There will be pizza to eat too. On Thursday, volunteers need to be at the church around 5:00 p.m. to be ready for the 5:30 p.m. start. The Deacons need volunteers for registration, height & weight station, serving food, and directing people around the site. Please call Julie Ogg, (248) , the church office, (248) or any Deacon if you are able help out at the fair. Are you in need to some health screenings? Join us here at FPC and receive them free of charge. Screenings include: height, weight, vision, hearing, blood pressure, dental, skin cancer, asthma/breathing tests and more. If we get 2 or 3 we can cook up a storm. Please contact any deacon if you can help. Deacons Doings At the May 2, 2016, meeting the Deacons voted to: Provide the $250 administrative fee for a church member to participate in Presbyterian Disaster Assistance work in New Jersey in June. Contribute $1,500 to Power Company for Kids as an Ally Sponsor, which provides a 1/4 page ad in the program and 2 tickets to their fundraising gala on June 10. June 5 Rev. Laura Kelsey 12 Rev. Laura Kelsey 19 Rev. Laura Kelsey 26 Rev. Laura Kelsey Do you know someone in our congregation who is sick or hospitalized? Do you have some type of surgery planned? Would you like a pastoral visit while you are hospitalized or recuperating? Pastor Laura will make visits but she needs your help! Please notify the office if you are going into the hospital or if you would like prayers. It is a simple matter to put someone on the prayer chain, which is private or to add someone to the prayer list in the bulletin, which is for all.
4 We Love Our Music! Hello and happy summer to all! We ve been waiting for these warm days to arrive and now they are finally here. Our Chancel Choir ends their regular season on Memorial Day weekend and we will now be in summer mode for the upcoming months. This allows an opportunity for volunteers to provide our music leadership week by week. No need to sign-on for weeks on end, just one will be fine. If you play an instrument or sing and are willing to volunteer to share your gifts with the congregation, please contact me and let me know. Because we will be having three outdoor worship experiences during the summer, there are less Sundays to be filled so I hope YOU will step forward and help fill these spaces. On the 4th of July weekend and again on Labor Day weekend, we will be worshipping in our local park down Wayne Street at 11 o clock. This will be an opportunity for very creative worship as there is no electricity in that location! If you have any suggestions as to how that might take shape, please let me know. Planning is now in progress and your thoughts and ideas are very welcome. On August 14th we will worship at Hess-Hathaway Park in Waterford and following worship we will enjoy an all-church picnic. We will have electricity out there, but this is yet another opportunity for creative worship in God s beautiful outdoors. Maybe some ideas for hymns of nature will come to your mind. Jot them down and send them to me. All suggestions are appreciated. Finally, I hope you have a restful and rejuvenating summer. It is a great time to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends and refresh your soul in God s beautiful world. Liz PW Baby Shower Thanks This year s baby shower was well attended by approximately 42 people. A lunch of croissant sandwiches, potato chips and cake was provided by Presbyterian Women and the Renaissance Circle. Coffee, tea and juice was graciously provided and served by the Deacons. Baby items totaling an approximate amount of $1, were donated by the members of our congregation and included $108 worth of items donated by the Renaissance Circle. All the items collected are scheduled to be donated to the soon-to-be opened Women and Children s Center a Ministry of Grace Centers of Hope located in downtown Pontiac. On behalf of Presbyterian Women, Rosemarie McColl and Rosemarie Owen wish to thank everyone who contributed in any way to making this year s baby shower a success. Join us for Worship in the Park on Sunday July 3, Sunday August 14, and Sunday, September 4 at 11:00 a.m. These services will give us a chance worship God among the nature that he so beautifully created. In July and September we will worship in the park across the parking lot, off Saginaw. Just look for the really big yellow chair, you can t miss it! In August we will worship at Hess-Hathaway Park on Williams Lake Rd. in Waterford with our church picnic immediately following. You won t want to miss the fellowship and fun!
5 Footprints News from the Christian Education Department Thank You Teachers! God calls each of us to serve in a variety of ways. To those who answer the call to teach, we say thank you. Through Sunday school, VBS and adult Bible studies, we have special people to dedicate their time to teaching the Word of God. Sunday School Nursery - Judy Bartlett Preschool - Julie Ogg Elementary - Cathy Eames and Rosemarie Owen Youth - Tom Duffield 11:30 a.m. Sunday School Nancy Keith Adult Education Joan Irish - PW Studies Joelle Jarrait - Wired Word Pastor Laura Kelsey - Adult Sunday School and Wired Word Julie Smith - His Word, Her Hands Perry Fischer graduated from Seaholm High School. In the fall, he will be attending the University of Michigan in the college of Literature, Science and the Arts. He is considering a major in architecture, engineering and history. Emily Keith graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.S. in 3D Art and a minor in Communication Disorders, Gerontology, and American Sunday School Take Out Summer is a busy time for families. With vacations, gatherings, and events, it can be difficult to find time for Sunday school. So why not take Sunday school with you? Next time you re in church, please pick up a Sunday school to go box full of activities for kids to do while traveling or just at home. Each box also contains a Flat Jesus. Color him and take Him with you! Snap pictures and post them to the church s Facebook page or text them to so we can see where Jesus goes with you! We still need more Crew Leaders for VBS! Crew leaders spend time with the kids and help guide them through the program. This is a lot of fun and a great way to share the love of God with children. VBS will take place here at FPC Monday-Friday, August 1-5, 6:00-8:30 p.m. Dinner is served at 5:00 p.m. Please contact Joelle Jarrait to volunteer!
