God parted the Red Sea so his people could get out of Egypt safely. But then, they forgot about that miracle and started worshipping idols. God gave them water from a rock and bread from heaven so they could survive in the desert. But soon, they forgot about this miracle and started complaining about drinking and eating the same thing every day. It is SO important that we remember the wonderful things God does for us every day. When we forget, we usually start sinning and fall away from God. That s why Paul reminds his friends in Corinth about Moses and the Israelites, and that s why we still study the entire Bible today. We need to be reminded of all the wonderful things God has done so that we can continue to see the amazing things he still does. 2 Soul Food: A Word from Peter The Billboard The LORD will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. - 1 Thessalonians 4:6 I was driving home from Chicago recently when I passed a giant billboard sitting in the middle of a cornfi eld. In bold letters, it said: HELL IS REAL. At fi rst, my reaction was negative. The message seemed so harsh and blunt. I thought to myself: will that billboard reach people, or will it turn them off? Will it make them think, or will it make them angry? As Christians, shouldn t we focus on the Good News rather than the bad news? But gradually, I changed my mind. I thought about the farmer who went to all the trouble and expense to put up that billboard. I began to realize that his action was motivated by deep love and concern, not anger or hatred. With that blunt message on the billboard, he was trying to warn people that life is short and we need to turn to Jesus and be saved before it is too late. It made me wonder: Do I love people that much? Am I concerned at about their eternal salvation? Do I love them enough to warn and speak the truth to them? Notes: _ Audio/Media Crew Needed We are currently seeking individuals who would like to join the LPC Audio/ Media Crew for the 11:15 a.m. service. If you are interested, please contact Rick McNeely at rick@lebanonpresbyterian.org. Jesse the Juggler Come join us for a special LPC family event on Wednesday, September 5. Jesse Joyner, a renowned Christian performer from Richmond, VA, will be here at 6:30 p.m. to share the gospel through his gifts of juggling and storytelling. We will also have a Kona Ice truck with treats to enjoy beforehand! Bring your kids, your friends, and yourselves for a meaningful message, fun, and fellowship! LPC Book Club Our fi rst book club of the Fall will be Thursday, September 13 at 7 p.m. in Room 311. Our September book is called Rainwater by Sandra Brown. Ella Barron, a single Texas mother, built a careful life running a boarding house in the Depression-era cotton South. But when a mysterious stranger takes a free room, he also takes Ella s careful life apart. In the tradition of Gone With the Wind comes historical romance in the Dust Bowl. Please join us and if you have any questions, contact Kristen Hodges at thehodgeys@yahoo.com.
