2 2 GROWING IN IN תורה לימוד Written by: Miriam Schlam (grade 12) & Atara Shields (grade 12) We often associate the חדש of מר חשון with a bitter month. We think of it as a month where nothing of consequence occurs - no holidays, no fast days Surely, though, we don t have even a single month where we can t learn and work on ourselves in a unique way. Following the action packed month of ה,תשרי uses חשון as the month to shower the land with the ultimate blessing of גשם - rain. Every plant and vegetation requires a different amount of water for healthy growth. A flower would drown if were to be watered with the same amount of rain as a tree needs. ה is the only One who knows which plants need more rain at certain times of day and more sunlight at others. This is true as well with our.לימוד תורה Often we feel as though we need to be re-inspired with טובים,ימים but the reality is that there are times where we have to take matters into our own hands. We are the only ones who are capable of discovering how much rain our bodies and נשמות need to grow in the most efficient way possible. When we daven for rain this,חשון we should take this into account. We should remember to also daven for the right amount of rain to inspire and strengthen us to grow in our תורה learning and life application. 3 3 Tiferes Bais Yaakov was pleased to install five new plaques recognizing the generous contributions of the F RIEDBERG,, RUTMANR UTMAN, SALMONS,, TANENBAUMT ANENBAUM, AND AMILIES. Due to the generosity of our donors, our students are able to learn in a bright and welcoming building that offers them all the amenities required to maximize their abilities. WEINBAUM FAMILIES A GUIDANCE UIDANCE INFORMATION meeting was held for students in Grades 11 and 12, led by Mr. Jeremy Cohen, our school guidance counselor. Mr. Cohen provided vital information about navigating the university application process, and preparing for the future. Mr. Cohen will be meeting with students over the next few weeks to provide further direction to girls applying to post-secondary institutions. SECURITY AT TIFERES In accordance with city fire regulations, and as part of our continued efforts to ensure the safety of everyone at Tiferes Bais Yaakov, a FIRE DRILL was recently held to ensure the quick and efficient evacuation of the building,. ח ו emergency, in case of an Parents and teachers had a chance to interact at this year s CURRICULUM NIGHT for parents of Grade 9 students, held on October 1st. If you were unable to attend and would like to speak with your daughter s teacher, please feel free to call the office and leave a message for that teacher. Communication between parents and teachers is critical. Please make every effort to attend this important evening.

5 5 Headed by Miriam Hytman and Avigayil Skosowski, this year s MISHEMERES program is well under way. The FRIENDSHIP RIENDSHIP CIRCLE ORIENTATION was recently held to train our student volunteers. The Friendship Circle provides assistance and support to the families of children with special needs. ( This year s CHESED HEADS, Talia Klein & Chavi Wagowsky, continue to network with city organizations to find chesed opportunities for our students and to provide help wherever it is needed in our community. If you or someone you know is in need of a chesed, you can now contact the chesed committee directly at their CHESED ADDRESS: tbychesed@gmail.com. SHINING STARS CO-ORDINATORS, Nechama Kaiser and Dafna Somogyi, are working with Chai Lifeline in the Shining Stars Respite Program. Sports, arts & crafts, and music are all incorporated into the program to make it an enjoyable afternoon for all. Sara Gitty Lemberger ( 09) recently visited the school to provide the students with more information about volunteer opportunities. TEHILLIM TUESDAYS is an initiative led by Natalia Kushnir, grade 12, and Menucha Rabinowitz, grade 11. 6 6 ACTIVITY PERIOD has begun. Every Tuesday, girls attend workshops led by women of our community. Some of the classes offered this session are Art, CPR, Cake Decorating, Jewelry Making, and Yoga. The senior class meets with their advisor each week to discuss ongoing senior projects.

7 7 The FRESHIE-SENIOR ENIOR PIZZA PARTY, held at home of Elisheva Nemetz, allowed our grade 9 students to get to know our senior class. The girls heard a few words from Mrs. Hennie Zolty, Dafna Blum, and Abby Spiro; played ice-breaker games; and ate a delicious dinner. Thank you to organizers: Miriam Hytman, Miriam Langer, Elisheva Nemetz, and Devorah Rubinoff; and to the Nemetz Family for their hospitality and the special dessert they provided for the event.

8 8 HOLD THE DATE: The DESSERT RECEPTION FOR WOMEN & GIRLS will be on Motzei Shabbos, December 28. The Succos Cookbook sale was a great success and our FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE, Daliah Adler, Elisheva Nemetz, and Michal Silver, are now selling coffee every day, in addition to Muffin Mondays and Pizza Fridays. They will also be selling fresh soups once a week All money raised goes towards the senior graduation trip at the end of the year. Our YEARBOOK editors continue their efforts to create a colourful keepsake of their senior year. YEARBOOK PHOTOS took place on Wednesday, October 9th, with Shaindel Friedman ( 09) Portrait Photography. The girls are busy raising money for the yearbook by selling ads. You can help too! All parents, family, and friends are invited to PURCHASE A YEARBOOK AD to honour their graduate. See order form on page 11. Grade 12 parents and students are invited to an INFORMATION NIGHT, on Monday, November 4th, where they will receive valuable information about the seminary and university application process. Almost 50 graduates attended the annual תשובה ימי עשרת ALUMNAE SHIUR with Rabbi Feigenbaum. Rabbi Feigenbaum spoke about finding good role models in your life. A video link will be sent to alumnae who were unable to attend. The ALUMNAE REUNION took place on סוכות המועד.חול לול Mrs. Devorah Vale spoke to ה the attendees about staying connected to after high school, when life's responsibilities can sometimes distract.
