2 Our Worship of God January 14, :15 am ( Indicates those who are able, please stand) Second Sunday after the Epiphany Welcome and Announcements Pastor Carol McEntyre Call to Worship (responsive) Loving God, we have gathered to meet you. We have come to listen to you, to seek you, to worship you. You are the beginning of all things, the life of all things; you knew us before we were born. In you we become; in you we live. Loving God, you are here and everywhere, around us and within us; you know our inmost thoughts. In you we hope; in you we live. You are the source of serenity, giving peace that is beyond our understanding. In you we are; in you we live. Loving God, we live in you; we worship you. Loving God, you live in us; we worship you. Amen.
3 Opening Song Build Your Kingdom Here Confession (Unison) God, you know us better than we know ourselves. You know our thoughts, our weaknesses, our motivations, our sins. And you love us still. Forgive us when we don t believe such love is true or possible; When we wonder how You could love us just as we are, when we forget our intricate construction, fearfully, wonderfully made, in Your image! Remove from our minds every thought which keeps us from you. Break down the walls, push aside the pride, and help us to trust anew. You know our hearts. And you love us still. Amen. Passing the Peace of Christ Songs of Praise Be Thou My Vision God With Us Renewal of Our Church Covenant (unison) Because we have responded to Christ s call to follow him as disciples and because we find this calling too difficult and too important to fulfill alone, We covenant together to support and to pray for one another without ceasing; to be candid in our speech, kind in our attitudes, and caring in all our dealings with one another; to seek the mind and vision of Christ for ourselves and our life together, mindful that our unity does not require uniformity.
4 Moreover, we covenant to give first priority to our times of public worship and learning; to sustain our common mission by proportionate giving, faithful service and personal witness; to live our lives in a manner worthy of the gospel we profess and of this family of faith; and to seek each other s forgiveness and God s when we fail to honor this covenant, trusting God s Spirit to renew us in stronger faith, brighter hope and broader love. Prayers of the People and the Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen. Offering We Are Scripture Reading Ashley Evans Psalm 139:1-18 O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it. Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night, even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you. For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being
5 made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed. How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! I try to count them they are more than the sand; I come to the end I am still with you. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Message Known Brittany McDonald Null Song of Response Same Power Benediction (responsive) We ve built community, we ve worshiped together, we ve served together, we ve grown in faith. For all that has been, Thanks! For all that will be, Yes!
