1 Our Worship of God July 9, :15 am ( Indicates those who are able, please stand) Greeting Carol McEntyre Call to Worship (unison) from Philippians 2:5-11 We come together to celebrate Jesus Christ, who though He was in the form of God, did not consider being equal with God something to exploit. Instead, he emptied Himself completely, not only taking on human form, but the form of a slave. He humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even a humiliating death by torture on a cross of wood. So God raised Him up with great honor, and gave Him a name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven and on earth and even under the earth

2 might bow down, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

3 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence, but much more now in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Message Carol McEntyre Song of Response Beautiful Things Benediction May God, who began the good work within you, continue to be at work in your life, bringing everything to completion on the day when Christ Jesus comes back again. May your love for others overflow more and more, and may you keep growing in your knowledge and understanding. Never forget what really matters, so that you may live a pure and blameless life until Christ returns. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation those good things that are produced by your life by Jesus Christ for living this way will bring much glory and praise to God.

5 Announcements Register now for First Kids Camp July 31 st August 2 nd Mornings at First Kids Camp will be filled with kid-friendly worship, Bible studies and games. In the afternoons, we will switch gears and have special activities and guest speakers. Mornings are free. For children staying through the afternoon the cost is $25 per child for all three days, payable by check (made out to First Baptist Church) or cash. Children staying for the afternoon should bring a sack lunch. To register: You may now register on-line through First Baptist s website, fbccolumbia.org. If you prefer you may print and complete the registration form, and either mail it to the church or drop it in the box downstairs. To volunteer: contact Yvette Chambers at chambers@fbc-columbia.org. Daily Schedule 7:30 am Early drop off for parents who work 9:00-Noon Worship, Bible Study, crafts, recreation 12:00-1:00 Sack lunch and quiet activities 1:30-5:30 Special activities (such as Jabberwocky Studios) Celebrating Glenn s Retirement July 30th First Baptist s custodian for most of the last 35 years, Glenn Owings, is on his way to retirement at the end of July. To thank him for his years of service and to congratulate him on his retirement, we will recognize him in Awakening and Traditional worship services on Sunday, July 30 with a reception following Traditional worship. Expressions of thanks are welcome if you would like to contribute to a monetary gift please send a check to First Baptist Church prior to Wednesday, July 26, or drop something in the church offering clearly labeled as gift for Glenn. Cards are also encouraged if you would like to say thanks in that manner.

6 Sunday Morning Small Group Offering: the Enneagram Church-wide Mission Trip Today is the first session of the summer Sunday Morning Small Group offering studying the Enneagram. Sessions run through August 27 at 10:15 am in the parlor. The Enneagram is an ancient personality type system that describes how people are wired both positively and negatively. Participants can learn about their own personalities as well as how they relate to others. It s not too late to join in! Church-wide Mission Trip to the Lakota Reservation in Bridger, SD is July 29- Aug 3rd. This allows us to travel with 2nd Baptist in Liberty, MO again. Projects will include some construction, fencing, and a possible video documentary project to help tell the story of the work happening in Bridger. Total cost for the trip will be $100 per person to pay for food at the site, transportation, project fees, and utilities/ accommodations. Reminder, we sleep in the church and fellowship hall on the floor, so bring your own mattress and/or sleeping bag. Weather permitting, camping/ sleeping outside is possible. Participants are responsible for food while traveling. Limited space is still available; please contact Michael McEntyre at mmcentyre@fbccolumbia.org ASAP. We look forward to what God has in store for us. First Baptist Adventures On Saturday, July 15 th, we will enjoy a picnic at the castle at Bothwell Lodge Historic Site. Bring a dish to share and drinks for yourself. Utensils, plates, cups and ice will be provided. This is a family-friendly event with table games, three-legged races with prizes, and time to tour the castle.
