Reservation deadline is November 16 th, A final reminder: the Catholic parishes of Parma and Parma Heights will offer a free, traditional Thanksgiving Meal on November 26, Thanksgiving Day. Those who might be alone that day, or in need, are invited to attend. This Thanksgiving Meal will be offered at the Bell Tower facility of St John Bosco Church, 6480 Pearl Road, in Parma Heights., beginning at 12:00Noon. It is all on one floor and there are no steps. There is ample parking. So that adequate preparations can be made, we must know by 5:00pm this Monday, November 16, if you plan to be there. Please call St Charles Parish Office ( ) and tell us the number planning to attend with you for the Thanksgiving Day Meal. And also, earlier on Thanksgiving Day, you are invited to our Annual Thanksgiving Day Mass, at 9:30am, on Thursday, November 26, here at St Charles. The word Eucharist means Thanksgiving. What better way to start our Day of National Gratitude than to gather in church and give thanks to God? As was the practice of the early Church, at the Preparation of the Gifts, you are asked to bring forward your gifts of canned goods. This will conclude our November Canned Food Drive. Please check the article in this bulletin for the canned good items we need the most to feed the poor here in Parma and at our East Side sister parish, Our Lady of Peace. In the early years of the Church, food and clothing were brought forward at Mass and later given to those in need. That s why the priest washes his hands at the Offertory. At one time it was necessary after handling all the various gifts! Deacon Dan Galla has begun a St Charles Dads Group. Deacon Dan plans to meet on the first Thursday of the month, 7:00 to 8:30pm, in the Lower Hall. The focus is on prayer, support, and fellowship as an aid to modern-day family life. No long-term commitments are required, and no fees or officers will be needed. Looking to deepen your faith life? Then come and see St Charles Dads Group. Looking ahead, our own Father Terry Grachanin will be the featured speaker at the Theology on Tap presentation scheduled for Wednesday, December 9, 7:00pm at the Winking Lizard, Detroit in Lakewood. Young adults, 21 to 40, are particularly welcome. Father Terry s topic will be How Beauty Prepares Us for Eternity. High schoolers are reminded of the Youth Group Mass this coming Saturday, November 21, at 7:30pm. There will be an Open Gym following Mass as well as refreshments and entertainment at the Parish House. I hope to see a big crowd! Our parish bulletin seems to grow bigger and bigger with the variety of new offerings and opportunities. Each week, there is also a feature article detailing a parish group, ministry, or organization. The name of that group is given, along with the work they do, when they meet, and a contact person and number. Please feel free to make that call if you would like more information. This is a Parish Council initiative that comes from last April s Town Hall meeting with the heads of our various activities.
