In the past there were many nods to the sacred such as stores closed on Sundays and no business during the hour of Jesus s death on Good Friday. Now we may have trouble finding signs of the sacred in our present day culture, but in no way does that imply God is absent. We can never limit the action of God in our own personal and the world s affairs. Look at the impact Pope Francis is making on the world s stage. We were starving for a voice like his. We declare to one and all that we commit ourselves to: grow spiritually as disciples of Christ to become men and women for others build community through hospitality, ecumenism and social & cultural events understand cultural differences and accept them as sources of enrichment give loving service & outreach to those in need promote social justice issues in our neighborhood and in the larger community of city, nation, and world. Our times have called people to look more inward to find a life of Faith and to look outward for a sustaining faith community. It is distressing to discover so many people have nowhere to put the pains and struggles of daily life. We all need an overarching vision. It is distressing to witness how many young people end their lives because they find no meaning. Faith can make such a difference. It is a place to take our pains and difficulties and see them transformed by God s hand. The terrible tragedy in Charleston, South Carolina when a hateful person gunned down nine black churchgoers at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church, reveals a powerful witness that Love is stronger than death. Again and again, family members of the victims gave voice to their pain, and miraculously their forgiveness. Nadine Collier voiced what many others said: You took something very precious from me. I will never get to talk to her again. I will never be able to hold her again, but I forgive you, and have mercy on your soul. Now that is faith in action. Many thanks to Megan Pryor Lorentz for her extraordinary service as leader of the Ignatian Spiritual Life Center and Christian Faith Formation. She was exceptional and will be greatly missed. We wish her God s speed as she serves in the adult spirituality formation at St. Ignatius College Prep. We pledge ourselves to be a light in the darkness through the love that we share in the name of Christ and through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Children s Care During Liturgy Care is provided for children 18 months through 5 years of age during the Sunday 10:30 AM Mass. Our Daycare Room is located across from the daily mass chapel and is open for all Masses. Parents with children under 18 months are welcome to use the daycare room as long as at least one parent stays with the child. Ignatian Spiritual Life Center The Spiritual Life Center (1611 Oak Street) provides programs and services to the parish and larger faith community through educational programs, opportunities for prayer, and community events. Companions in Ignatian Service and Spirituality responds to the thirst of many Catholics to deepen their spiritual life as they give of their time and talent to serve those in need - the poor, the marginalized and the socially vulnerable. Ignatian Companions engages people 50 years and older in meaningful direct service to the poor while providing community and reflection experiences to enhance this faith commitment to social justice. 4 Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults Are you interested in becoming a Catholic? RCIA is the process by which adults become Catholic. Do you know someone who is interested in pursuing Baptism, Confirmation and full admission into the Catholic Church? Please encourage them to inquire about the RCIA program here at St. Agnes. Sessions will begin in September. Names are being gathered at the Parish Offices now. Please call or maureen@saintagnessf.com. AAA Our 2015 Campaign continues. As you know, this year s assessment is $78,800. The total St. Agnes has collected so far is $34,653, we have $44,147 to go. Thank you to all of those who have contributed either directly to the campaign or through gifts that are unrestricted. If you haven t given, please consider giving over the summer. What we don t raise through the parish, we take out of our savings to make up the difference. Thank you for your continued generosity. Young Adult Ministry Our Christian Life Community for Young Adults meets on the 1 st Thursday of each month. Then on the 3 rd Thursday of each month, young adults gather for social activities. 5 Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; And ascended into heaven, And is seated at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Stewardship Prayer Lord and source of all gifts, I rejoice in the fullness of your generosity. I thank you for those whose lives are visible signs of your love and blessing to others. Give me the courage to do the same. Make me a good steward of all I have received generously sharing my time, abilities and material resources to build up your kingdom of love and justice. We ask this through Jesus Christ, in whom we begin and end all things. Amen.
