2 PASTORAL LEADER S NOTES Dear Parishioners, During these Advent and Christmas time days we want everyone to know that at St. Mary s Church in Winneconne and in : ALL are welcome! Where all means ALL! We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, gay, filthy rich, dirt poor, yno habla Ingles. We extend a special welcome to those who are crying newborns, skinny as a rail, or could afford to lose a few pounds. We welcome you if you can sing like Andrea Bocelli or like members who can t carry a note in a bucket. You re welcome here if you're just browsing, just woke up, or just got out of jail. We don t care if you re more Catholic than the Pope, or haven t been in church since little Joey s Baptism. We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome soccer moms, NASCAR dads, Packer loving sisters, tree huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk food eaters. We welcome those who are in recovery or are still addicted. We welcome you if you are having problems, or you re down in the dumps, or you don t like organized religion. If you blew all your offering money at the casino, you re welcome here. We offer a special welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don t work, can t spell, or came because grandma is in town and wanted to go to church. We welcome those who are inked, pierced or with purple hair. We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid, or got lost in traffic and wound up here by mistake. We welcome the flexible, inflexible, tolerant, & intolerant. We welcome tourist, seekers, doubters, bleeding hearts, and YOU! No matter who you are or where you are on your life s journey you are always welcome here! All of the staff here at St. Mary Church wish you a wonderful Christmas filled with great joy and profound peace as together we celebrate God-with-us. Sr. Pam
3 STEWARDSHIP The Discipleship Process leads to encountering Jesus more deeply and when this happens we become Grateful Stewards who Share, Serve, and Pray with joyful hearts. Week 4 - Advent Gospel: Luke 3: Consider these words of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta ( ): "In the mystery of the Annunciation and the Visitation, Mary is the very model of the life we should lead. First of all, she welcomed Jesus in her existence; then, she shared what she had received. Every time we receive Holy Communion, Jesus the Word becomes flesh in our life -- gift of God who is at one and the same time beautiful, kind, unique. "Thus, the first Eucharist was such: Mary's offering of her Son in her, in whom he had set up the first altar. Mary, the only one who could affirm with absolute confidence, 'this is my body,' from that first moment offered her own body, her strength, all her being, to form the Body of Christ." How will you welcome, share, and offer yourself to Christ as we conclude Advent and move into the season of Christmas? Be Grateful Pray-Serve-Share ALPHA HOLY SPIRIT RETREATS: It is not too late!
