Please pray for them daily that the gifts they receive from the Holy Spirit will guide them into a deeper relationship with our Lord so that they may be His force in the world for good. Monday, November 12, in observance of Veterans Day, Parish Office will be closed. We welcome into our faith community Susan Ashley Eklund, daughter of John Eklund & Ashley Dent and John Ryan Fox, son of Christopher Fox & Nina Atkinson, who were baptized on, November 10, 2018 at St. Patrick s. We pray for blessings on them and their families. The month of November has traditionally been a time to remember our dear departed relatives and friends. Altar Server Training Altar Server Training for grades 5-8 will be held at church on November 14. Please meet at church at 1 pm and plan to stay until about 2:30pm. Over 43 million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to bring permanent and positive change to their communities. The conference theme will focus on The Heart of End of Life Care: Catholic Social Doctrine and continuing education credits for healthcare professionals will be offered. Speakers include: Christopher Kaczor, Ph.D., of Loyola Marymount University; Natalie Rodden, M.D., Palliative Medicine Physician in Westminster, CO; William L. Toffler, M.D., of Oregon Health and Science University; and more. For more information, visit convergingroads.com. St. Patrick s Thrift Shop needs a few more volunteers! The shop is open for business Tuesday through and volunteers work 2, 3, or 4-hour shifts depending on the day. Volunteers also work on Monday, Wednesday, and to sort, price, and display donated items. Scheduling is flexible... some volunteers work once a week, some once a month, and some on call. Lend a hand at one of our Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year s Eve parties at several locations throughout San Francisco. Most opportunities are for three hour shifts between the hours of 11 am to 8 pm. May include decorating, craft making, room set up, food preparation, clean up and socializing. - Keep developing minds busy Help with Thanksgiving and Christmas break activities at our after-school sites in East Palo Alto and San Rafael. - Provide Thanksgiving Dinner ingredients (and sweets and desserts) for families and individuals served by one of Catholic Charities programs. - Pass the Produce help build healthy eating habits, distribute groceries to families and seniors. 4 Wednesday, November 14, 7:00 8:30 pm An evening with Bishop Stephen Blaire speaking on The Spiritual Dimension of Dying Well The Gathering Space - Dominican Sisters Center, 1520 Grand Avenue, San Rafael between Acacia and Locust Streets. An inspirational speaker, Bishop Blaire has planned a reflection on accompaniment at the end of life from a Catholic perspective. His presentation will be a thought -provoking one for those who are reflecting on their own end of life as well as for those who are accompanying others, or foresee a time they will be. Bishop Blaire is a native Californian, born the twelfth of fourteen children. He was ordained a priest in 1967 and was a Catholic school teacher and administrator in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He was ordained a bishop in 1990 and served the Diocese of Stockton for nineteen years until his recent retirement. Bishop Blaire is currently a member of the Whole Person Care Leadership Council in Torrance. All are welcome! We will have light refreshments and there will be time for your questions. 5 I am happy to report that the renovation of our King Street property which is currently being leased by Homeward Bound of Marin is nearing completion. Several parishioners have asked if they could donate items and supplies for the new residence. To help make sure that our new neighbors are warmly welcomed into an inviting home, there has been an on-line registry set up for people to donate items that are actually needed to complete the renovation. Please feel free to visit the site and consider fulfilling one of the needs listed. The registry address is: tgt.gifts/kingstreetseniorhousing On December 16, at 4:00 P.M. our parish will host the annual "Lessons & Carols" featuring our wonderful and talented adult choir. As in years past, they will sing us into the Christmas season with beautiful music and readings. At that concert, there will be a free-will offering taken and all proceeds will be donated to King Street Senior Housing. Also, at a day and time prior to the "Lessons & Carols" concert on December 16th, I hope to offer an open house so that you may tour the newly renovated home prior to our first neighbors moving in. Stay tuned for more details about the open house. As we prepare to embark on the upcoming special time of year, how wonderful it is that we are able to help house seniors who are in need of a wonderful place to live. And how wonderful it is that Saint Patrick faith community is so willing and eager to share with our new neighbors some of the blessings God has given to us.
