February 5, February 3, 2019 DARING FAITH Capital Campaign Because of our FAITH in Him we DARE to have boldness, courage. and confidence in coming to God with Freedom and without fear. Ephesians 3:12 Boldness Courage Confidence DARING FAITH BEGINS On February 5, 2017, our Church Family will boldly launch our first spiritual-growth experience! DARING FAITH is our 24-month plan to empower us to grow in faith like never before! GROWING IN FAITH: A pathway to help us MATURE in faith SOWING IN FAITH: A process to help us GIVE by faith GOING IN FAITH: Opportunities to help us LIVE by faith Our goal is the same as that of the Apostle Paul: What we re hoping for is that as your lives grow in faith, you ll play a part within our expanding work. (2 Corinthians 10:15). In this pamphlet, we will discover how our trust in God is reflected in our faithful giving. Without faith it is impossible to please God. HEBREWS 11:6
February 5, 2017 Dear Friends, Being part of the Crossroads Church family from its inception at Indigo Sky Park in Johnson Ranch has been one of the greatest blessings of my life! What I love most about our Church is that we welcome people from all backgrounds and in all stages of their spiritual journey. Our focus is clear--we make followers of Jesus. In the Spring of 2014, an impression that I knew was from God came into my mind. I saw the vision for Crossroads Lutheran Church in San Tan Valley! A group of friends began meeting in Sherilyn and Bruce Turner s family room, and I explained the vision of where we could go as a Church. That night we had no name and no place to meet. We had all we needed though-- hungry hearts longing for a Church with my God-inspired vision. I said, This Church will focus on God s mission and God s people, not buildings and programs. This Church will be committed to making disciples one person at a time. This is how we will grow. Some looked astonished while others looked skeptical. It was ridiculous to think our little group with no name, no place to meet, and no money could ever become what we are now. We had reason to doubt. We had to ask ourselves if we were willing to take risks for God and God s kingdom to reach new people in new places. God was saying, Go for it! Trust me... And as an act of faith, we did. In October of 2016 we voted unanimously to organize as a Lutheran faith community and affiliate with the ELCA. Now we are ready to begin our next Daring Faith move on this adventure through which God is leading us. With the Daring Faith campaign, we are saying, Lord, as far as the responsibility lies with us, we refuse to ever live in a state of boredom or false safety. Rather, we want to be with you--out front--completely sold out to the kingdom of God. I am convinced that our best days are ahead, which is why today God is inviting and challenging us with the most ambitious, faith-stretching, and creative campaign imaginable. On the following pages you will see how our Five Daring Faith Goals will cost approximately $250, to accomplish. And what will be the result of our daring faith? We will see people find hope, healing, and purpose. We will create more opportunities for more people to connect with God. We will together take our next step of faith! I ask you to join me. By faith, Jenifer and I will be sacrificing along with you in order to accomplish our goals. I can t think of anything I d rather be doing. There is certainly no other group of people I d rather be on the Daring Faith adventure with than all of you. As I look at Crossroads I say, Let s go for it! I think we are going to have a blast on this adventure. God bless you, Pastor Charles Newman
DARING FAITH AND LOVING SACRIFICE Every outreach opportunity and ministry experienced at Crossroads today was made possible by the sacrificial giving of ordinary people and the generous support from mission partner churches and the ELCA. Throughout this process we will remind ourselves that it s an equal sacrifice, not an equal gift by everyone. This campaign will also invite and challenge the Friends of Crossroads around the country to partner with us and contribute to fund the Daring Faith Campaign. There are (5) five strategic goals for the Daring Faith campaign that are found in the acronym F.A.I.T.H. This year, Crossroads celebrates 3 years of ministry. Now is the time for us to begin to "shift the gears in our ministry from a group of people with a dream, to a Church with a missional mandate to share God s love and make Christ known. The leadership and staff believe now is the time that we conduct our first capital campaign. This will be an intentional 24-month pledge campaign for the people of Crossroads to go above and beyond our regular giving to fund our Daring Faith Capital Campaign. THE FIVE GOALS OF DARING FAITH F A I T H Fill God s house with 200 worshipers by ASSIST more people with needs through our local & global partnerships. INTERACT with our growing church community. TRAIN volunteers and fund Crossroads paid staffing needs. HELP the next generation belong and grow in faith. Why? Because Jesus said: Urge anyone you can find to come, so that my house will be full (Luke 14:23). Why? Because Jesus said: Whenever you care for the least of these, you care for me. (Matt 25:40). Why? Because Jesus said: For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them (Matt. 18:20). Why? Because Jesus said: You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. (Matt. 5:13-14). Why? Because Jesus said: Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these (Matt 19:14). How? Start 1-2 new worship gatherings for people to worship God and cultivate their faith How? Provide seed money for a coffee shop in the community and support our Missions Ministry. How? Upgrade our technology, and secure down payment for a permanent church home. How? Equip staff, interns and volunteers as disciples to grow and serve Crossroads and beyond. How? Support children and youth to take ownership of their faith through classes, VBS, retreats special events.
DARING FAITH AND LOVING SACRIFICE We celebrate with joy and thanksgiving for how God has provided for us, and we believe the best is yet to come! God is now inviting each of us as individuals, and all of us as a family, to step out in faith. Daring Faith will require the largest, riskiest and most sacrificial steps of faith we have ever taken. Just as God has been faithful to us in the past, God is faithful NOW! It s time for Daring Faith! Daring Faith FOR $250,000 We are daring to dream for $250, Achieving this goal will allow us to fully fund the Five Goals of Daring Faith. DARING FAITH PRIORITY PROJECTS PRELIMINARY BUDGET Practice Tithing First (10% gifts to local and global partners) $25,000 Children & Youth Ministries: VBS, Youth Gatherings, Retreats $20,000 Train volunteers and fund staffing needs $85,000 Coffee Shop: Feasibility Study, Business Plan, and Legal Consultation $55,000 Church Land Acquisition Down Payment $50,000 Upgrade Technology: computers, AV, screens $15,000 TOTAL $250,000 A CHURCH WORTHY OF YOUR SUPPORT Anytime we are asked to consider giving to an organization we must ask three questions: 1. Do they have a track record of success and effectiveness? 2. Do I trust the leadership; have they proven to be competent? 3. Will they make the best use of my gift?

In just a little over two-and-a-half years, Crossroads has a proven record of effective ministry, global engagement, the respect of the ELCA and Grand Canyon Synod, our Combs Community and many changed lives. You can be confident that your gifts to Crossroads church will be used for God s purposes. After starting a welcoming and inspirational worship gathering, transforming lives through our JO Combs School and House of Refuge, supporting our Native sisters and brothers, and establishing missional communities for people to Meet God, Meet Friends and Make Life Better, it would be impossible to find a more impactful church in Pinal County. At Crossroads, God uses our gifts to spread the Good News around the world, baptize new Believers, help people who are hurting, make disciples, train the next generation, start new missional communities, heal relationships and more-all through ONE church! SEVEN REASONS TO SUPPORT CROSSROADS CHURCH 1. WE ARE DIVERSE. We unapologetically welcome all people. God is forming us into a diverse-discipling culture, intergenerational group of people who love Jesus and significantly impact the world. 2. WE ARE VIBRANT. We inspire people to recognize and experience God s presence. We are passionate about communicating the Good News because it is GOOD NEWS! 3. WE ARE COMPASSIONATE. We see God s power and purpose working in and through every human life. Through us, God is causing individuals, families, and friendships to flourish locally and globally. 4. WE ARE CREATIVE. We never grow tired of finding new ways to connect people to God. 5. WE ARE AWARE. We live our lives with eyes wide-open and ears that listen. We are with you. No one is alone. 6. WE ARE TRUSTWORTHY. Grand Canyon Synod and the ELCA church leaders have commended Crossroads for wise stewarding of our resources. 7. WE HAVE DARING FAITH and BIG DREAMS. If you want to be part of a better future, support a church with a clear vision and a willingness to take big risks in faith. Crossroads has changed our lives! Every week, transformed and changed lives gather for worship at JO Combs. Your gifts to Daring Faith will empower your church family to reach others with the same transforming message of Jesus that has made such a difference in your own life. Faith is here! Let s pass it on. Use your money to do good...always being ready to share whatever God has given you. By doing this you will be storing up real treasure for yourselves in heaven - it is the only safe investment for eternity! And you will be living a fruitful Christian life right now as well. 1 TIMOTHY 6:19
Answers to Some Frequently Asked Questions DARING FAITH F.A.Q. (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS) 1. Why Now? WHAT LED US TO START THE DARING FAITH CAMPAIGN? Since Crossroads is no longer considered a mission church of the ELCA, our staff and church board began to ask God, What is next? Pastor Charles Newman began to meet with key volunteers, fiscal and community leaders, sharing some of the ideas that God seem to be giving us. After a time, five themes emerged: 1) Continued worship growth, 2) Train volunteers and staff funding, 3) Impact our community, 4) A permanent home for Crossroads and 5) Grow our children and youth ministries. Aware that we are a model for the ELCA on how to start a new church, we felt compelled to step out rather than sit back. As prayer and conversations progressed, we felt inspired to involve the entire church to pursue our most Daring Faith projects along the lines of these five themes. After much prayer and wise council, we developed the strong sense that 2017 would be a great time to begin our most daring adventure since our dream to start Crossroads nearly three years ago. 2. WE ARE RAISING $250, HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE SPENT? Tithe 10% of campaign funds to our local and global partners Expand Worship Opportunities Children and Youth Ministries Technology Upgrades Down Payment for a Permanent Church Home Consultation and Feasibility Studies for a coffee shop Train Volunteers and Fund Staffing Needs 3. WHY ARE WE TRYING TO OPEN A COFFEE SHOP? Places and spaces that create and build community are needed in the San Tan Valley/Queen Creek community. A coffee shop where people are encouraged to linger and where people can talk and listen is needed. A L.L.C. coffee shop owned by Crossroads Church provides an opportunity to form new relationships and additional funding for Crossroads outreach ministries. Elevate Coffee Company and Pastor Paul from Hope Lutheran Church in Phoenix have consulted with us to replicate their successful business-faith partnership. 4. I THOUGHT WE WEREN T INTERESTED IN A BUILDING. WHAT HAS CHANGED? Crossroads is always more interested in people forming relationships than bricks and mortar. After 3 years of meeting in a park and then a rented school gymnasium, we have caught a vision for a permanent home to helps us impact our community even more. This permanent home will: Provide a Family Feel - an inviting space in our community. Be an inspiring multi-purpose venue that can accommodate worship, education, special events and weddings Have a creative design that fits Crossroads mission and culture. Serve as magnet for those in our community to find rest and refreshment. 5. WHEN WILL WE START AND COMPLETE THE CAMPAIGN? Teams have been busy researching, reviewing business plans, site visits, determining ministry needs and priorities. They are ready to go to work! We will launch this campaign on Sunday, February 5, We will conclude this campaign two years later on February 3, HOW ARE WE GOING TO RAISE THE FUNDS? Through prayerful consideration, we are trusting God to reveal to each of us how to participate in this campaign. Whatever you decide to commit will be written on the commitment card, made available at vision events, the Celebration Banquet and the Celebration Service on Palm Sunday, April 9, The second phase is to invite our Friends of Crossroads and ministry partners around the country to provide a one time or reoccurring gift to our campaign. Winter Disciples are encouraged to be innovative in their approach to invite their church/community back home to partner with us in this Daring Faith project.
Answers to Some Frequently Asked Questions DARING FAITH F.A.Q. (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS) 7. HOW CAN I DONATE SECURITIES, REAL ESTATE AND OTHER VALUABLE ITEMS? If you have a valuable item to donate, please sell the items and donate the proceeds to the campaign. If you have stocks, real estate or other investments to donate, it is in your interest to allow the church to cash them in. Contact Lisa Parrish at laparrish@cox.net if this option is right for you. 8. HOW WILL CAMPAIGN COMMITMENTS BE MADE? Commitments will be fulfilled over a 24-month period. The Crossroads Church Board, Staff and Campaign Leaders will make their commitments known on Friday, April 7th at the Celebration Banquet. On April 9, 2017, we will give the entire church the opportunity to make a commitment pledge and a first-fruits offering in order to jump start the campaign. 9. WOULD IT BE HELPFUL TO ALLOCATE PART OF MY REGULAR GIVING TO THE CAMPAIGN? Actually, no it would not. Our regular giving covers Crossroads normal operating expenses. The funds that we give to Daring Faith are going to projects above and beyond our regular operating expenses. 10. WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR PROJECTS IF WE DO NOT RAISE THE FULL AMOUNT? We are confident that the amount of $250, is a realistic goal for our Crossroads family. If we do not reach this amount through campaign commitment gifts, we will prioritize the projects to reach as many people as possible with the resources we have been given. 11. CAN I CHANGE MY COMMITMENT, IF NECESSARY? While we trust you will prayerfully consider your gifts before you pledge an amount, you may change your commitment at any time. We know life situations can change and reach beyond our control. If you decide to increase your pledge, we welcome your additional gifts. We will be in communication throughout the two-year campaign, and we hope that as new people join Crossroads, they too will make financial commitments to Daring Faith. 12. IF I HAVE QUESTIONS, WHOM SHOULD I ASK? Each leader on our church board is heading up one or more Daring Faith Projects. Your to churchboard@iamcrossroads.com will be forwarded to the team leader, and someone will contact you in a timely manner. We are happy to meet in person to hear feedback, answer questions and discuss ideas. YOUR DARING FAITH CAMPAIGN TEAM: Jason Gahm Tom Hayden Sky Keaton Rev.
