1 Latin 7: Forum Project Goal: Understand the Roman Forum by answering these three questions. 1)What major buildings were there and when? 2)What basic activities happened at the forum? 3) Why was the Roman Forum important to the Roman people? Process: 1)Stage One: You will spend three class periods researching the Roman Forum. I will then collect and grade your research. 2) Stage Two: Choose a way to present what you have learned. I have thought of a few choices but you may have a different idea, just check with me. Possible Ways to present: a) Travel book for the Ancient Roman Forum: In this format you would tell ancient travelers about the Roman Forum. Travel books usually give some background information about the monuments along with some ideas of what you can t miss. b) A work of fiction: Write a fictional short story, skit, or even poem which somehow describes the Forum and answers the above three questions. c) A well written paper which has a thesis (main idea). d) A diorama or large map which is labeled with descriptions. Stage 1 November 18 On this day you must submit three things: 1) A brief description of the history of the forum (just a few sentences). 2) Information for each of the buildings on the rubric. For each building you must tell a. What it looked like b. What happened there (or why it was built) c. When(ish) it was built and from when the current ruins date (E.G. the first temple of Saturn was built about 1000 years before the ruins we currently see). 3) A list of major activities in the forum. For each event you must tell. a. A brief description b. A specific example c. Where the event took place 4) A few sentences about why the forum was important to the Romans. N.B. ALL of these must be in your own words! On this day you will get 25 points just for turning it in on time. I will go through your research and see how you did then return it to you within a week. Stage 2 : Your completed project which presents your information in one of the above ways. That project will be graded according to the provided rubric.
