The blindness of the media and long-time politicians was in full display again this past Friday when Caligula met with congressional leaders. As the length of the meeting drew on, the pundits began to speculate that progress was being made. Surely the length of the meeting was a good sign. Why else would they remain together so long? Have they not seen and heard Caligula go on and on and on and on and on and on blowing his own horn, full of ignorant bluster? This, at least, was my explanation for the length of the meeting. The next day, I read this: The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump began Friday's heated closed-door negotiations with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and newly minted Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) with a 15-minute, profanity-laced rant. Sources familiar with the meeting also confirmed the account to CNN and the Daily Beast. I am quite sure there were additional 15-minute stretches when it was simply Caligula being the blow hard that he is. Politicians and media figures need to understand that nothing is as it was. The past is no longer prelude. It cannot be used to understand the present or upredict the future--short or long term. I really do. That said, I must say that the Kurds can surely not be surprised by American infidelity toward them again. Every dishonorable in international relations, the U.S. has screwed the Kurds, like others, over and over and over again. There s no telling how many Kurds lie dead in the dusty soil of Kurdistan due to American betrayal. If the Kurds believed in us again shame on them. They should have known better. Having said that, do not think that I am opposed to this military withdrawal. I am in favor of American military withdrawal here and in a hundred other places. It s time for the U.S. to stop playing Roman Empire, stop being such a force for evil and violence and death, come home, and be a physician to its own sick. Only then can it reenter the world as a force for good through moral and enlightened humanitarian assistance the globe over. This military withdrawal may very well be the only thing Caligula and I agree on. Hmmm. Maybe I ll have to rethink my position. I could never, ever have imagined that I would live to see the day when such a large minority of the American people, even religious people, engage in such deep, rebellious, and willful ignorance. Caligula is threatening to shut down the government if congress does not give him money to build his ridiculous wall. But, gosh, he s told us a hundred times literally as recently as a week and a half ago that Mexico was going to pay for the stupid thing. So, why does he need the money from congress? I mean, really now, has anyone ever known this emperor-wannabe, this honest Abe to lie? Damn, he s been as steady as a rock; as truthful as any committed tyrant. I am so confused. This is so unexpected. I would never have predicted this. I thought sure the Mexicans would fork out billions of dollars for our wall. I mean, why else would Caligula have made such a promise? Walker Bush s funeral, many of Caligula s followers have complained of subtle attacks against their emperor, Caligula. Of course, the attacks were not subtle. They were not attacks. Many do not possess the abilities or resources to succeed in this kind of word. Now, here s a novel suggestion. While we are admonishing everyone to get an education, how about if we just as strenuously admonish those who have abilities intellectual, social, and economic to further their education to lift up the others through emotional and economic assistance? Why is it always, You have no responsibilities to those who are poor life managers. They got themselves into the mess they re in. How could so many who call themselves Christian have yielded so willingly to Korihor s anti-christ doctrine of the survival of the fittest? In one decision, the LDS Church announced a reduction of its Sunday meetings from the marathon three hours to the half-marathon two hours. About this, I say, Yahoooooo!!! Those of us thankful for this change, should probably thank millennials. The second decision was made by the U.S. senate with its vote to appoint Brett Kavanaugh to the supreme court. One can only hope that this will turn out to be one of the last gasps of a dying white man s dominance. But, whether a last gasp or not, we will pay the price for this decision for a generation. This made me wonder which decision will have the greatest impact on me, my immediate family, my grandchildren, and our nation at large. Although the first decision will dominate Mormon discussions, private and public, over the following days and weeks (what does it say about our meetings, that there is such excitement

11 about this meeting change?), I m thinking the second decision will have far more impact on each individual, and on the world at large. wednesday.3.october.2018 We have learned this week that physically and mentally impaired individuals are not the only classes of people that Caligula enjoys mocking, with the full-throated approval of his disgusting mobs. There are simply no words to adequately express my disgust. What do I say today? The following two paragraphs aren t my words. But they are simply to precious to pass up. Donald Trump suggested the Spanish government tackled the Mediterranean migration crisis by emulating one of his most famous policies and building a wall across the Sahara desert, the country s foreign minister has revealed. According to Josep Borrell, the US president brushed off the scepticism of Spanish diplomats who pointed out that the Sahara stretched for 3,000 miles saying: The Sahara border can t be bigger than our border with Mexico ( Donald Trump Urged Spain to Build the Wall ). First, I laughed out loud, sure it must be a joke. No one is that stupid. Then I considered the source of the idiocy. I had, I thought, better fact-check this. Well, I m sure you already know the end of the story.

12 I was wrong. It was not a joke, and someone, who will go un-named is that stupid. Just saying saturday,22.september.2018 Reportedly, Kavanaugh has been hunkered down in the white house practicing, as he no doubt did for his original hearings, for his potential upcoming hearing concerning his alleged attempted rape. Apparently, If one believes he is innocent, they must also accept the premise that it takes days and days of rehearsals to formulate how to tell the truth. If one is more skeptical, one learns that it takes days and days of practice to formulate a coherent and believable series of lies. In his original hearings, we witnessed how skilled a liar he is. It is very likely that in these next hearings we will learn nothing more than how good he is at remembering and delivering the memorized lines he practices so long and hard. wednesday,19.september.2018 Last week, after the ever insecure Caligula refused to accept the number of Puerto Rico citizens dead as the consequence of hurricane Maria, Paul Ryan, ever the secure one, was quoted as saying, Casualties don t make a person look bad, so I have no reason to dispute these numbers. Hmmm. Does that mean that if the number of casualties did serve to make someone, i.e., Caligula, look bad, he would dispute them, whatever their accuracy? wednesday,12.september.2018 I have said it before, but it bears repeating. For better or worse, in the past couple of decades American Christians of many stripes have jumped into the political arena, mostly in regard to abortion and gay marriage. Shocked by the viciousness of the political arena, they then scream, Religious freedom. Our religious freedom is under assault. Politics is hardball. For any Christian individual or group, or anyone else for that matter, to enter the political arena with any proposals, religious or not, without expectations of serious and vigorous pushback is either a sign of extraordinary naivete, an inordinate sense of entitlement, or both. Christian naivete and/or sense of entitlement is the only thing under assault. Their religious liberty gives them the freedom to hold and express their views. It does not include the right to have their views accepted or even respected. Their freedom does not extend to their enforcing their views upon others. The political arena is not a place appropriate for anyone who possesses the slightest degree of decency. God s people should not participate in the perverted game played in the political arena. Christians would be better served to leave the arena for the wild beasts. And rather than yell fire, they would be much better off shouting the warning invitation, Go ye out from among the nations, even from Babylon, from the midst of wickedness, which is spiritual Babylon (DC ). Yes, it is time to leave. If they are determined to continue to play gladiator in that area, I suggest they put on their cup, gird themselves with harder armor, hitch up their big boy pants or any other like-minded metaphor they prefer and stop playing the religious freedom card.

In a congregation that is likely still supporting Caligula at about a 60% clip, we sang, apparently without any sense of irony, an opening hymn with this first verse, Oh say, what is truth? [I perked up, here] Tis the fairest gem that the riches of worlds can produce, [I was still holding it together, but Really? I wondered. The fairest gem? Are any of these Caligula loyalists hearing a word of what we are signing?] And priceless the value of truth will be when the proud monarch s costliest diadem [this is when I began to lose it] is counted but dross and refuse. [If anyone is listening, do they know what they just sang?] The fairest gem is truth. What, then, is the proud monarch s costliest diadem? Hint It isn t any bejeweled crown that sits atop the monarch s pate. No, it represents the words the very best of them--that flow from the proud monarch s mouth. You see? The gem (truth) is compared to the proud monarch s diadem (his lying words). The former is priceless, the latter is rubbish of less worth than garbage. Two jewels: one the fairest, the other worthless garbage. Truth verses lies. What, I wondered, would Caligula folks make of that? Probably conclude that this irreverent hymnist had yielded to the lure of fake news! friday,7.september.2018 In my last Just Quips post, I grew rhapsodic on Woodruff s latest book, Fear. Such a title does not seem, I opined, quite intense enough. Perhaps, Terror, Horror, Alarm, or Panic might have been a more appropriate title. Blasphemy, would certainly be best. Anyway, today I was interested to see that when ask which they fear most terrorists, immigrants, or Trump (A.K.A. Caligula) over 60% of Germans answered, C, Trump. Now, I would think that this result on the part of respondents does not reflect Germans actual fear index. More likely, they were simply trying to make a point: the man scares the bejebeers out of us. In some ways, though, the question is a trick question, for Caligula is a terrorist. He has, for example, followed and intensified Obama s drone terror all over the planet the one thing that he can agree with his predecessor on we have the right to invade others sovereign airspace with impunity and murder other nations civilians anytime we get the inch to kill. For this reason, I have toyed with the idea of alternating other nicknames with that of Caligula. Kishkumen has seemed appropriate, but too few would understand the allusion. Same with Gadianton, though this would work nicely too. Oh, and I mustn t forget Amalickiah. But, I think I ll just stick with Caligula. Most everyone knows who he was, and my meaning is understood by a wider audience.

14 thursday,6.september.2018 Bob Woodruff of Watergate and Deepthroat fame has reportedly written in his newest book, Fear, that Defense Secretary James Mattis described Caligula as possessing the understanding of a fifth or sixth grader. If this is an accurate description of Caligula s grasp of real world politics, Fear is an understatement of gigantic proportions. Terror or Horror would be a better description of the reaction of any reasonable American. That said, it seems highly likely that any such statement on the part of Mattis was intended as hyperbole, and was used to make a point: the man is daft. So, I assume that Mattis is exaggerating by at least a factor of 2. This generous estimation of Caligula s understanding means that he possesses the understanding of a high school senior. Still discomfiting to he sure. This would warrant a book title, at its least exaggerated at Alarm, or Its Time to Panic. tueday.4.september.2018 Toward the end of the Obama administration Holder opined that criminal investigations or indictments should not be conducted in such a way as to influence elections. Caligula, paragon of virtue that he is, has recently complained that indictments of dirty GOP politicians are impacting the up-coming mid-term elections. Of course, what Holder did not sufficiently appreciate is that criminal behavior among American politicians of all strips is pervasive, rampant and continuous. American politicians never take a recess from graft, fraud, bribery, and every other form of political chicanery. Nor could Holder or any other decent human being have predicted that we would so soon have a president who never saw a crime the he did not appreciate, admire, and wish that he had possessed enough foresight to have committed, himself, the devious crime. Investigations and indictments must not take recesses for what has become constant, 24x7x365 days a year electioneering. thursday.30.august.2018 Conservatives! Evangelicals! They stick with Caligula because he is doing their bidding, they say. Caligula is an evil, twisted man. An evil and twisted man is happy and comfortable doing their bidding and enacting the conservative agenda. Should they, perhaps, consider the possibility that their conservative agenda is evil and twisted? With all due respect to Socrates, humans and human societies cannot be reduced to mathematical formulas, such as that above. Things are not so simple and formulaic. Yet, one would think that the comfort level with which that evil and twisted man does all things conservative would at the very least give a movement a little pause. wednesday.29.august.2018 Caligula recently assured evangelical Christians that he is the only thing standing between them and violent leftists. In other words, Caligula, like his Roman namesake, has pronounced himself divine, savior, god. Of course, those same Christians gave him an enthusiastic applause bowed the knee worshipped the beast. The truth, in fact, is exactly the opposite. Caligula rules to American Christianity s condemnation. Its support of him damnable and damning.

Caligula s responses not one or two, but four or five to the passing of John McCain is the perfect illustration of the nature of the man I call, generously, Caligula. His insecurities, apparently amplified by such men as McCain, know no bounds. He is a vindictive, petty, small, mean-spirited ass. There is not a sliver of decency in his bones; not a drop of virture in his blood; not a sign of godliness in his spirit. He is simply evil, through and through.
