This week, we're exploring Organized Religion and why we have a church. Life Teen is held on Sundays at Blessed Sacrament in the Parish Hall at 5pm with a meal and ends at 6:45pm. All teens are welcome! Small Groups: This Thursday, Small Groups is continuing its series on Life Skills. Come out and grow together as we learn more about life. Small Groups meet from 7-8:45 pm on Thursdays in the Miccosukee Room at Blessed Sacrament. Attention Middle School Teens! Edge: This Friday, Edge is continuing it's series on Human Dignity, exploring the topic of abortion. Come out and learn more about Catholic social teaching! Edge meets at Blessed Sacrament on Fridays from 7-8:30 pm in the Parish Hall. Trivia Night: The Life Teen and Edge Youth Ministries will be hosting a Trivia Night on Saturday, Sept. 22nd from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Parish Hall at Blessed Sacrament for adults. Tickets will be $20 and include heavy hors d'oeuvres and refreshments. Prizes and raffles are available throughout the night. Tickets are available now through Friday, Sept. 21, and can be purchased at the Blessed Sacrament office or online. Parish Photo Directory Tell your story, be a part of our upcoming photography event. Our parish is putting together a new Parish photo directory and we want you to be in it! There will be a training session on September 29th at 11AM in the Church. The training session will last no more than an hour and 15 minutes. T H O M A S M O R E Dear Faithful Stewards, Father John s Corner The other day when I was buttoning my shirt up I realized that I had misaligned the first button, so when I got to the bottom button it was all catawampus. Has that happened to you? You d think after all the years of buttoning my shirts, I d learn, but somehow it still happens. Aligning things is what life if often about. Last time I visited a chiropractor he first wanted to check my spine, to see if it was out of align. Makes sense, after all pain can occur when things are out of align. In the spiritual life, interior pain and restlessness can occur when things are out of alignment. So, what s one thing we can appeal to for a solution. May I propose Stewardship? Go to the first book of our bible, Genesis 1:1. : In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. It seems, that from the very beginning, God has absolute rights of ownership over all things. To miss starting here is like misaligning the top button on our shirt or blouse. Nothing else will ever line up. Nothing will have relevance or make biblical sense if we miss this first button. Once we imbed this first great truth then we re on our way to understanding God as the beginning and end of all good gifts. Stewardship really defines our relationship with God. He is the owner and we are the manager. He is the owner of the vineyard, we are the stewards of this great vineyard. We are his co-workers. St.Paul says 1Cor 3:9 For we are God s fellow workers; you are God s field, God s building. This puts things in perspective and we can better value not only our possessions, but more importantly, human life itself. The big picture is that Stewardship defines our purpose. Stewardship is not taking something from us, rather, it is His way of bestowing His gifts to us. As a worker in His vineyard, I hope you can till the ground faithfully and see where God has placed His gifts in your life. Once we see this, then we ll have no problem giving back and the buttons of our life will align. Faithfully, Fr. REGISTRATION: All parishioners are asked to return a completed registration form to the parish office and make identifiable contributions either through offertory envelopes or by personal checks. MATRIMONY: Arrangements should be made with a priest at least six months in advance. Important guidelines for marriage at St. Thomas More Co-Cathedral can be found at our website: or by calling the office. BAPTISM: Parents must be registered members of our parish and attend Baptism Preparation Classes. To register and obtain further information, contact the church office. Please provide the names of military service members so that they and their families can be remembered at Mass and in the prayers of our parishioners. God in return richly blesses those who tithe. The recommended distribution of tithing is half to the parish and half to other charities, including the Bishop's Catholic Sharing Appeal and second collections. A household can begin tithing by returning 2% of their income to God, and increasing it to 10% over a period of years as household finances allow.
