4 Magnificat John Rutter Magnificat, the canticle of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Luke I: 46-55), was originally sung during the medieval Roman rite of Vespers. After the Mass, it is the liturgical text most often set to music. Award-winning British composer John Rutter (b. 1945) wrote this exuberant version inspired by J. S. Bach, to reflect the celebrations throughout Europe honoring Virgin Mary. 1. Magnificat anima mea Magnifcat anima mea Dominum: et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo. Quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae: ecce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes. My soul doth magnify the Lord: And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden: for behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 2. Of a Rose, a lovely Rose 3. 16 North Valley Chorale (NVC) The North Valley Chorale is a voluntary, non-profit organization dedicated to the cultural, musical, and social enrichment of metropolitan Phoenix and its surrounding communities. We serve all segments of our community by providing affordable and accessible performances of choral music from many traditions, eras, and cultures. We work with joy and passion to improve our skills and capabilities so that we may perform these works at the highest possible level of personal and collective musicianship. We seek, recruit, and integrate a diverse and committed set of vocal talent into our membership. The North Valley Chorale reaches out into the community not only to share our music, but also to serve and lift up those suffering or in need.
