Opening Prayer requesting one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer Lesson #255 The Good Samaritan Part 3 Deuteronomy 10:17 (KJV) For the LORD your God [is] God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: This Sabbath boys and girls, we will continue with part 3 of our lesson entitle, The Good Samaritan in our lesson book, Desire of Ages! Exodus 23:4 (KJV) If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again. Exodus 23:5 (KJV) If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him. Deuteronomy 10:18 (KJV) He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. 2 Let continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #54, pages Continuing: If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again. If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him. Exodus 23:4, 5. But in the man wounded by robbers, Jesus presented the case of a brother in suffering. How much more should their hearts have been moved with pity for him than for a beast of burden! The message had been given them through Moses that the Lord their God, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger. Wherefore He commanded, Love ye therefore the stranger. Thou shalt love him as thyself. Deuteronomy 10:17-19; Leviticus 19:34. {DA 500.1} Question: What did Jesus present in the man wounded by robbers and how much more should their hearts have been move for him? And, was the message He gave them a new one? Answer: The case of a brother in suffering and their hearts should move with pity for him than for a beast of burden. And, no! The message had been given them through Moses that the Lord their God, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 3 Job had said, The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveler. And when the two angels in the guise of men came to Sodom, Lot bowed himself with his face toward the ground, and said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night. Job 31:32; Genesis 19:2. With all these lessons the priest and the Levite were familiar, but they had not brought them into practical life. Trained in the school of national bigotry, they had become selfish, narrow, and exclusive. When they looked upon the wounded man, they could not tell whether he was of their nation or not. They thought he might be of the Samaritans, and they turned away. {DA 500.2} In their action, as Christ had described it, the lawyer saw nothing contrary to what he had been taught concerning the requirements of the law. But now another scene was presented: {DA 503.1} Question: Why did the priest and the Levite not bring these lesson taught into their practical life? And, what did their training lead them to do when they looked upon the wounded man? Answer: They were trained in the school of national bigotry; they had become selfish, narrow, and exclusive. And, they could not tell whether he was of their nation or not. They thought he might be of the Samaritans, and they turned away. Scripture Song Singer-God s Love Ezekiel 33:15 (KJV) [If] the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die. Ezekiel 33:15 A certain Samaritan, in his journey, came where the sufferer was, and when he saw him, he had compassion on him. He did not question whether the stranger was a Jew or a Gentile. If a Jew, the Samaritan well knew that, were their condition reversed, the man would spit in his face, and pass him by with contempt. But he did not hesitate on account of this. He did not consider that he himself might be in danger of violence by tarrying in the place. It was enough that there was before him a human being in need and suffering. He took off his own garment with which to cover him. The oil and wine provided for his own journey he used to heal and refresh the wounded man. He lifted him on his own beast, and moved slowly along with even pace, so that the stranger might not be jarred, and made to suffer increased pain. He brought him to an inn, and cared for him through the night, watching him tenderly. In the morning, as the sick man had improved, the Samaritan ventured to go on his way. But before doing this, he placed him in the care of the innkeeper, paid the charges, and left a deposit for his benefit; and not satisfied even with this, he made provision for any further need, saying to the host, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. {DA 503.2} Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson# Page 3

4 Question: Who came where the sufferer was, and when he saw him what did he do? And, what other acts did the Samaritan venture to do for the sick man? Answer: A certain Samaritan, in his journey; he had compassion on him. And, He took off his own garment with which to cover him. The oil and wine provided for his own journey he used to heal and refresh the wounded man. And, he placed him in the care of the innkeeper, paid the charges, left a deposit for his benefit; he made provision for any further need. Jesus said, Go, and do thou likewise. {DA 503.4} Question: What happened when the story ended? And, how did the lawyer answer when Jesus said, "Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?" Answer: Jesus fixed His eyes upon the lawyer, in a glance that seemed to read his soul. And, The lawyer would not, even now, take the name Samaritan upon his lips, and he made answer, He that showed mercy on him. Thus the question, Who is my neighbor? is forever answered. Christ has shown that our neighbor does not mean merely one of the church or faith to which we belong. It has no reference to race, color, or class distinction. Our neighbor is every person who needs our help. Our neighbor is every soul who is wounded and bruised by the adversary. Our neighbor is everyone who is the property of God. {DA 503.5} Question: What was the question that was forever answered? And, how has Christ show who was our neighbor and what it meant? Answer: Who is my neighbor? And, that our neighbor does not mean merely one of the church or faith to which we belong. It has no reference to race, color, or class distinction. Our neighbor is every person who needs our help. Our neighbor is every soul who is wounded and bruised by the adversary. Our neighbor is everyone who is the property of God. 5 Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 6-Careful Habits Ensure Good Health I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord. Jeremiah 30:17. {SD 172.1} The mind does not wear out nor break down so often on account of diligent employment and hard study, as on account of eating improper food at improper times, and of careless inattention to the laws of health.... Irregular hours for eating and sleeping sap the brain forces. The apostle Paul declares that he who would be successful in reaching a high standard of godliness must be temperate in all things. Eating, drinking, and dressing all have a direct bearing upon our spiritual advancement. {SD 172.2} Health is a blessing which few appreciate.... Many eat at all hours, regardless of the laws of health. Then gloom covers the mind. How can men be honored with divine enlightenment when they are so reckless in their habits, so inattentive to the light which God has given in regard to these things.... Life is a holy trust, which God alone can enable us to keep, and to use to His glory. But He who formed the wonderful structure of the body will take special care to keep it in order if men do not work at cross-purposes with Him. {SD 172.3} Health, life, and happiness are the result of obedience to physical laws governing our bodies. If our will and way are in accordance with God's will and way; if we do the pleasure of our Creator, He will keep the human organism in good condition, and restore the moral, mental, and physical powers, in order that He may work through us to His glory.... If we co-operate with Him in this work, health and happiness, peace and usefulness, are the sure result. {SD 172.4} He did not die for us in order that we might become slaves to evil habits, but that we might become the sons and daughters of God, serving Him with every power of the being. {SD 172.5} My dear young friends, advance step by step, until all your habits shall be in harmony with the laws of life and health. {SD 172.6} Next Week: We will be reviewing our lesson, The Good Samaritan of our book Desire of Ages Closing Prayer request one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer.
