2 2 The Oklahoma Mason - Grand Lodge A L 6012 Edition From e Grand Master Looking back over 2012, I simply do not have e words to tell you how happy and excited and humbled I feel. The Chance to Advance program has been more an I dreamed possible. To stand on e stage at e Gurie Scottish Rite Temple on May 12 and look out at 722 newly-raised Master Masons, and even more Breren who had come to help our new Master Masons and to be part of e day was an experience like I have never had before. To look up into e seats at e Muskogee Civic Center and see more an 500 new Master Masons, and, again, even more of eir Breren who had come to help and share in e day simply blew me away. There is no exhilaration like at. I know I actually had little to do wi it. The credit goes to ose who worked and planned e event, and even more to e Lodges who saw an opportunity for grow and to individual Breren who saw a chance to share e Freemasonry ey so much love wi eir best friends. And so in two days filled wi hard work and emotion and education and excellent ritual, more an 1,200 men have joined e ranks of e Fraternity in Oklahoma. And e only credit I can claim is at I was smart enough to get out of e way and let e Craft work. It is very important at we not let ese new Master Masons slip rough e cracks. Talk wi em, offer to bring em to Lodge meetings. Share e fellowship and e fun of Freemasonry, and share its lessons as well. We belong to one of e most wonderful, rich, and rewarding organizations on e planet; be sure to welcome em and fully involve em. There are two very good opportunities coming up quickly: e TRI-STATE DEGREE CONFERRAL - OCTOBER 19 & 20 and e DEDICATION AT THE WILL ROGERS MEMORIAL MUSEUM - SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4 More information about bo ese events is in anoer part of is magazine. Take advantage of ese opportunities to show our new Broers someing of e scope and dep of Oklahoma Masonry. Let me encourage you to come to e Annual Communication of Grand Lodge in Gurie. You will find a list of e Resolutions, biographies of men available for office, and oer information about attending in is issue. I really hope to see you ere. We are very fortunate to have a great Grand Lodge staff, and when you get an opportunity, tell em what a great job ey are doing. They truly keep our Fraternity going. The Chance to Advance Committee and my Masonic mentors, anks for all you have done to make is year memorable. And last, but NOT least to my beautiful wife, Kim. Where do I start but to say I love you. Thank you for all your have done to make is year remarkable. I couldn t have done is wiout you by my side. Fraternally, Randall L. Rogers, Grand Master

8 8 The Oklahoma Mason - Grand Lodge A L 6012 Edition Resolutions to be Voted Upon at Grand Lodge The Masonic Law of Oklahoma is changed by Resolutions, submitted by e members of e Craft and adopted by vote at e Grand Lodge Annual Communication. A 2/3 majority vote is required for adoption. Because e Resolutions are intended to amend a legal document, ey are written in language which can be a little confusing. Because of at, for many years it has been e tradition to print a simple English version in The Oklahoma Mason Magazine. PLEASE NOTE: The versions printed here are for convenience only, e actual language of e Resolutions, printed in e Yellow Book, sent to e Lodges and distributed to everyone attending Grand Lodge, has legal force. Also, ese descriptions are not intended to be advocacy for or against any Resolution and should not be so considered. RESOLUTION #1 deals wi candidates for Masonic office (not candidates for e Degrees of Masonry). Currently, it is against our law for anyone to campaign for office by handing out brochures, hanging posters, etc. This Resolution adds using electronic media to e forbidden campaign practices. [Amends Section 201] RESOLUTION #2 deals wi e number of members necessary to open and do business. There is considerable confusion on e question and is Resolution simplifies e language and process, requiring 7 Master Masons if Lodge membership is 100 or more; 5 Master Masons if Lodge membership is 50 to 99; and 4 Master Masons if Lodge membership is less an 50. [Amends Section U306] RESOLUTION #3 addresses e question of Masonic titles for past officers and eir limitations (one should not introduce emselves as Past Junior Steward of e Lodge, for example). [Expands and clarifies Section 215.] RESOLUTION #4 prohibits any Lodge from displaying any type of political sign on its premises or allowing any political function to take place on its premises. The prohibition does not forbid a Lodge from being used as an official government polling place. RESOLUTION #5 would allow e Lodge to do business in any Degree, so at Entered Apprentices and/or Fellowcrafts can attend e meetings. [Amends Section U 308.] RESOLUTION #6 relates to e monly report which Lodge Secretaries send to e Grand Lodge. The Resolution provides at e report only needs to be sent in quarterly, unless ere is membership activity in a given mon in which case it should be reported at mon. [Amends Section 608 B] RESOLUTIONS #7A, 7B, 7C In places, e language in e Constitution and Code confuses e terms annual dues and per capita. These Resolutions correct e language in ose places. The correction only changes e language, it does not change e way anying actually works. [Amends Section 501, Section 502, and Section 503] RESOLUTION #8 Specifies at e Grand Master cannot give a dispensation for a Lodge to confer more an 2 Degrees on a candidate in e same calendar day. [Amends Section U 414.] RESOLUTION #9 Currently, if a Broer who is not a member of your Lodge wants to visit your Lodge,

9 The Oklahoma Mason - Grand Lodge A L 6012 Edition 9 he cannot do so if any member of your Lodge, present at e meeting, objects. If such an objection is made, e Worshipful Master must exclude e visitor. The Resolution would remove e right to object to e presence of e visitor. [Amends Section U 313.] RESOLUTION #10 Clarifies, but does not change, e means of dividing e interest income on Perpetual memberships between e Lodge and e Grand Lodge. [Amends Section 502] RESOLUTION #11 Moves e filing deadline date for ose wishing to run for e Charity Foundation to e same deadline date as for ose wishing to run for Grand Lodge office. [Amends Section706.] RESOLUTION #12 Adds To file all local, state, or federal governmental reports. to e description of e duties of e Treasurer. [Amends Section U 223 C.] RESOLUTION #13 Prohibits e use of any electronic communications device in open Lodge, unless it is needed for lodge business, instruction, or education. [new section] RESOLUTION #14 Moves e date of Grand School to just before Grand Lodge. [Amends Article IV, Section 402.] RESOLUTION #15 Clarifies at a 28-day waiting period does not apply to applications for affiliation. [Amends Section U 405.] RESOLUTION #16 Eliminates e 6-mon waiting period between e date of a Master Mason Degree and e time e man can petition e concordant or androgynous Bodies. [Amends Section 805.] Feeding e Hungry We Made a Difference Grand Master Rogers continued Grand Master Almy s support of e Food Banks of Oklahoma. Lodges raised funds, ey were matched by e Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma, and e money was donated to e Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma or e Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, depending on e location of e Lodge. In at way, e funds donated helped e local area of e Lodge. 94 Lodges participated, raising a total of $33,840 wi Matching Funds. The largest donation came from Akdar Lodge #555 $1, Guildhall #553 made e largest per capita donation of $16.67 per member. An exciting part of e program was participation in e Ride Against Childhood Hunger sponsored by Channel 9 television. It featured a motorcycle ride from Oklahoma City to Stillwater. Advertizing for e ride included e Square & Compasses and a note at e Freemasons were sponsors of e Ride. There were 280 riders, and 18 Masons including several Grand Lodge officers. It was a great time for a great cause.

12 I m Buster Brown, I live in a shoe; That s my dog Tigh; look for him in ere, too. Those of us old enough can remember e young boy s voice on e radio, followed by plunk your magic twanger, Froggie whereupon a twanging sound was heard and Froggie e Gremlin appeared. Buster Brown entertained generations of kids, while Buster Brown shoes shod many young feet. But not everyone knows at ere were several real Buster Browns (young men, usually short in stature) who played e part at fairs, store promotions, and parades across e United States).
