1 Daily Student Announcements Thursday, April 12, 2018 Rules for lockdown during passing period Kimball will have a lockdown drill on Friday during a passing period. When a lockdown takes place during a passing period, students should do the following: WALK to the nearest open classroom or building. It does not matter if you have the teacher or class during the day; just get into the closest room. This may mean you are going into the main office, library, gymnasium, or another room on campus. At all times, follow the directions of the teacher or staff member whose room you are in. If you are in a room without adult supervision, use the classroom phone to dial 511 to reach the main office. Do not leave the classroom or building if the bell rings or the fire alarm goes off. Only leave the room when told to do so by the teacher or staff member. When Friday s drill is complete, go to your next scheduled class. BSU sells T-shirts Kimball High's Black Student Union will be selling its new T-shirts in the main office. Sizes range from small to extra-large and are limited. Each shirt is $15. Pay at the bookkeeper s window and show your receipt to attendance secretary Mrs. McKinney for your shirt. Talent show seeks performers Kimball s BSU will be hosting its third annual talent show in the school theater the evening of May 4. The club is eager to help Kimball students highlight their talent to the community. The theme is 90s, so performers are asked to wear 90s gear. Auditions will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, on the main stage. Multicultural assembly auditions Wednesday Auditions for the annual Multicultural Week assembly on April 27 at Kimball will be after school Wednesday in E6. Participants from campus club must bring a copy of their music and their costumes to the audition. Contact Ms. Pendleton at tpendleton@tusd.net to answer any questions, concerns, or if students would like to participate in any of the lunchtime activities during the week of April 23 to April 27. State testing continues today It is Kimball students time to shine and show what they know. State testing season is here. Be aware of the following dates since raffle tickets will be given to every student for each day of testing attendance for all 11 th- and 12 th -graders. The raffle prize will be a laptop computer. Math-all 11 th graders: today, Tuesday, Wednesday, and April 19, during math class. Science-all 12 th graders: April 24, 25, during government/economics class. Delta College visits campus San Joaquin Delta College representatives will be at Kimball s Career Center during third period, April 17. They will provide an application workshop and an overview of the community college. Interested students must sign up in the Career Center no later than Friday. Students are asked to know or bring a copy of their Social Security number. If they do not have one, they may still apply; however, an extra step is then required. Grad Night final payment due Friday Last call has gone out for Kimball seniors to make final Universal Studios Grad Night trip payments of $90. Please pay the bookkeeper or pay online through the student store by Friday.

2 Girls tennis talks Monday All girls interested in playing tennis for the Jaguars next fall will meet at 2 p.m., Monday, in the foyer between the café and the large gym. Coach Joe Lawrence will be talking about spring practice and handing out schedules for next year s practices and games. Student-athletes should see Coach Lawrence if they have any questions. Prom bus picks Tuesday Kimball prom-goers are urged to bring their completed insurance treatment forms to school on Tuesday. Prom busses will be picked during both lunches. Students who are bringing a guest from another school must also have a completed insurance form for their guest when selecting the bus. Police academy has 24 slots The Tracy Police Summer Leadership Academy for high school students will be from 8 a.m. to noon, weekdays, from July 9 to July 20. Requirements for entry into the program are: a 2.5 minimum grade point average, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, principal, or coach, be an incoming high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior who lives in the Tracy area. Applications are available at the front counter of the Tracy Police Department, 1000 Civic Center Drive. Space is limited to 24 students. Please contact Officer Hawkinson at with any questions. Yearbooks still for sale Kimball 2018 yearbooks are still for sale until May 1. Students may purchase them at the bookkeeper's office or at the Kimball website. The current cost is $90. After May 1, students will not be able to buy a yearbook until after distribution later that month. After distribution, the cost of a yearbook will rise to $100. Reserve a copy of the yearbook today before time runs out. TAAA Scholarship deadline is April 22 The Tracy African American Association Scholarship application deadline is April 22. Jaguar football meeting April 23 All Kimball students interested in playing football for the upcoming season should attend the player meeting immediately after school on April 23 in K3. Spring football will begin May 1. Art & Media Show April 25 The annual Kimball Art & Media Show will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., April 25, in N6, N7, N8, and N9. Come see student projects from all art classes, game design, media production, and video production. This is a free event for students, staff, parents, and the community. Kimball HOSA places near top at State Leadership Conference Over spring break, Kimball HOSA members attended the annual State Leadership Conference in Anaheim. Congratulations to Arsema Aklilu for placing second overall in extemporaneous writing and the team of Roxanne Attaran, Haley Gore, Jacob Febre, Brenda Le, Charlize Mitra, and William Tam for placing third in the state for public service announcement. Good luck to them as they will be competing at the International Leadership Conference in Dallas this summer. Additionally, Mr. Medek finished his term as Region 1 board director of California HOSA. He and Kimball staff members Ms. Bermodes, Mr. Qayumi, Mr. Munger, and Mr. Pecot represented Kimball at the state conference. Summer school sign-ups start Attention juniors, sophomores, and freshmen: Summer school forms are available from your counselor. Stop by during lunch or after school to pick up the registration forms. Summer school registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with a limited number of seats for each class. Do not delay.

3 Do not jump sound wall Students, jumping over the sound wall at the east side of the Kimball campus is unsafe and a violation of school rules. Please make plans to get to school on time without taking this shortcut. Students who continue to jump the sound wall will be subject to disciplinary action. Springtime reading Spring is here and so are all the feelings. Make healthy choices about relationships and sex. (That's right, sex.) Come to the Kimball library to obtain more information about love, dating, health sexual relationships, LGBTQ identify and expression, and more. Kimball students often feel too embarrassed to check out these books. Show how adult you are in your feelings and behaviors; check out books about having healthy relationships today. Students can even ask the librarians for help. Dawn workouts Kimball is offering its Strength and Conditioning Program between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This workout is for all Kimball students and participants will work on strength, conditioning, and agility. The program will go until the end of March. Anyone wanting to get bigger, stronger, and faster are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Coach Arnold at Where did you find that? Can't remember? Of course, you can't! There's too much information around us at every minute. That's why it is important to save the URL of the website where you find information. When you copy/paste information, just copy/paste the URL, too. Then you are always covered. Teachers will remind you and require this for your grade on information-finding assignments, so don't forget: copy and paste the URLs whenever you copy and paste information from any digital source. Ask the library staff for help. Drive slow Speed bumps have been placed on the lanes to Kimball s parking lots to enhance the safety of students, staff, and visitors, and to reduce speeding. With it, Kimball students and visitors are reminded of several school safety rules that are being strictly enforced on campus. The speed limit on campus is 5 mph, and this speed limit must be respected to keep everyone safe. Police will start ticketing for speeding, peeling out, burning out, or any type of driving that is dangerous. Parking/blocking in the following locations is strictly prohibited and may be subject to ticketing/tow at the owner s expense. Kimball s security teams help ensure everyone is safe and following rules at all times. Any defiance or disrespectful behaviors toward the security staff on campus will result in a referral for defiance and progressive consequences. Tardy policy revised Kimball, along with other high schools in the Tracy Unified School District, has revised the class tardy policy. The cumulative tardies will be counted each quarter rather than each semester. Each quarter, the following progression will take place as detailed in the student handbook: Tardy No. 1-4: Auto Dialer Home Tardy No. 5: Conference with Assistant Principal Tardy No. 6-9: Auto Dialer Home Tardy No. 10: DART Contract Tardy No. 11: In-School Suspension Tardy No. 12 and beyond: At Home Suspension Tracking resource information Do s, don ts of recycle bins Here s Kimball s school recycling do's and don'ts. Move away from quad after school Students must move out of the campus quad area to the front of Kimball at least 25 minutes after the last bell. Students who have a club, athletic or tutoring obligation should be on the way to the designated activity by then. Cell phone ban in bathrooms Kimball s cell phone ban in the classroom extends to the hallways and bathrooms when students are out of the classroom during classroom hours. Don t go past blue line Blue lines have been painted on the pavement on the Kimball quad. Students need to stay within the boundary blue lines during lunchtime. No student should be crossing the blue line unless he or she has a pass to attend a club meeting or are going to the library. Parking Permits Students, please remember to park in the student section of the parking lot and be sure to have your parking pass visible. Don't leave books in class If a book is checked out to you, it is your responsibility to keep it with you and in good condition. Do not leave books behind in a classroom, even if your teacher says, You can leave your books here and points out a "safe spot." Students are responsible for any books checked out to them, not their teachers. Show your ID Jaguars, be sure to have your student ID card with you at all times on campus. Athletes in action # Kimball s varsity and junior varsity baseball teams hosts Sierra High of Manteca at 4 p.m., today, on the campus diamonds. # The Jaguar boys tennis team welcomes visiting Manteca High for today s 3:30 p.m. matches on the campus courts. # Kimball s boys golf team faces Weston Ranch High of Stockton this afternoon at Van Buskirk Municipal Golf Course in Stockton.
