You don t need to wait for us to ask! If you have some music that you would like to offer, please talk to Janet Hougham, Jeani Shepherd, or any choir member. Either vocal or instrumental would be great! With busy summer schedules and vacations, we know that there will be Sunday s that we will not be able to find someone to share their musical talents. On those Sundays, we will add a special hymn to the service. It will be special, because we are asking for suggestions from you. Thumb through the hymnal and find an old favorite! Or maybe there is a church camp or youth retreat song that you would like to sing. In early May we will have a Summer Hymns box in the Narthex with pen and paper for you to submit your requests.
Page 4 May 2014 THANK YOU, MOM! Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.. Proverbs 31: We would like to Honor our Mother, Mary Lou Myers, on Mother s Day. Just the fact that her five children and many of her grand and great-grand children attend this church, is reason enough to honor her on this special Mother s Day She is the best Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother ever so on this Mother s Day, we would like to honor her for not only being a wonderful Mom, but for also instilling in each of us the tradition of placing church and family, right up there at the top Thanks Mom, for being such a Great Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother We Love You!! Karla & Lacy Pinegar, Joel, Dana & Brian Myers & Families My mom, Lois Heimberger, has been my spiritual inspiration my whole life. She is truly a woman of faith and an example of love and caring to all of us! She is 86 and still puts meals on the table for Dad and treats out for her sixteen grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren! From II Timothy 1:5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother, Lois. I m sure all her grandchildren, as well as her children, echo these words! Here is a picture of Betsy, Mom, Nora, and I taken almost a year ago on Nora s baptism day! - Jeani Shepherd
Page 4 May 2014 THANK YOU, MOM! Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.. Proverbs 31: Our Mom, Violet Westphal is 85 years young and lives in Madrid, IA at the Madrid Home. She loves people, activities and music, music, music. She is a real social butterfly! We love you Mom! Your daughters, Cindy Carpenter and Linda Chambers Picture was taken while watching the 2013 Fourth of July parade in Minburn! I am blessed to be surrounded by strong moms and women in my life, my mom-in-law, both of my grandmas, Troy s nana, all of my aunts, my friends and co-workers, but this month I would like to honor the strongest mentally, physically and spiritually woman I know, my mom, Lacy Pinegar. She is the rock of our family with her guidance, unconditional love and unwavering faith. We have a joke in our family and say, She s the man! But she is so much more than that. We have a very special motherdaughter bond that I cherish. I enjoy our daily conversations, texts and s, our walks, our shopping road trips, our love of decorating and all things antique and vintage, our love of flower gardening, our love of cooking and FOOD, watching the boys in their sporting events, singing in the choir, pretty much any time we spend together I cherish. She is also a wonderful grandma to her 6 grandsons! Mom is beautiful inside and out and has taught me so much in her own casual way. The best compliment I can receive is to hear, You are just like your mom! I hope so!! I love you, mama! - Paige Fenn
Page 4 May 2014 THANK YOU, MOM! Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.. Proverbs 31: I cannot begin to put into words what my mother means to me. I did not write this poem but I would like to share it with everyone because it sure exemplifies how I feel about my Mom, Carolyn Knoll. She is the perfect Mom and a wonderful role model! If I Could Build A Friend If I were able to build a friend, I'd choose the qualities on which I could depend. Her eyes would tell me how much she cared, and relieve my hurt when I felt alone and scared. She'd smile that smile that says it'll be okay, I'm always here for you night and day. She'd cry with me when my world fell apart, and I'd know the tears were from her heart. She'd make me feel like a V.I.P., and no one could ever be dearer to me. So where should my search begin, for this special lifetime friend? There's only one person I trust for advice, so I reach over to pick up my phoning device. It occurred to me as I dialed the number, this extraordinary friend is my very own Mother. Happy Mother's Day Mom! Thank you for being the special person you are. I am so very blessed to have you. Love you Lynn This is our 85 year old mother, Janice Lemke. She currently resides at Spurgeon Manor. She is always there to help, no matter what we need. Love you, mom! Janice is the mother of: Connie McClure Pam Conrad Gale Lemke Gene Lemke Thank you Connie McClure
Page 4 May 2014 THANK YOU, MOM! Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.. Proverbs 31: Sue Beavers Our mother and grandmother is faithful, caring, and generous. She has taught us so much and is so giving of herself. We are truly blessed to have her! We love you! The Beavers Thank you for the love, support, and friendship! We are proud to call you Mom, Jean Marie, Nurse Jeani, Ma Shep, and John McGlaughflin. We are most proud that our kids call you Grandma! Love, Jason, Abbey, and Betsy
Page 5 May 2014 PW News The Dallas Center Women met at the church on April 10, 2014 at 06:30 PM. The meeting was cancelled on April 3, 2014 due to Roger Shields funeral. There were 5 women present. The business meeting was opened with prayer by moderator Cindy Kisting. The minutes were read and approved. The treasurer reported a balance of $ The treasurer s report was filed for audit. A call to Spurgeon Manor to provide a birthday party for the residents. All the dates were filled except one. That date was inconvenient for us. So Cindy was returning the call to say there would not be an interest for us this year. The Election of Officers would be suspended this year. It was agreed that we would keep the same officers for next year. We have changed the date for the Senior Recognition to May 18, The rest of the evening was planning the Community May Breakfast on May 3, 2014 at 09:00 AM: Cheese soufflé Carolyn Kinney Muffins (2 dozen) - Cindy Kisting, Ardie Enderson, Cindy Carpenter Napkins Marian Keller Coffee + Juice (Apple, Orange, Cranberry) Ardie will check for a piano player, a singer, and Alicia to help with an invitation The Least Coin was collected and prayer was offered by Cindy Kisting. Refreshments were served by Carolyn Kinney and Cindy Kisting. Fellowship was enjoyed by all. Secretary, Ardie Enderson DID YOU KNOW? The tea light in the front of the church is lit each Sunday. There are two different trains of thought on what this is for: it is a Peace Candle started by an elderly woman in Russia, who passed it to Nancy Lamb (Mouse & Jody McClure s daughter), who passed it to us. It is also there to remind us of our sisters and brothers in El Sal-
