And as many as did come nto them, and did trly repent of their sins, were baptized in the name of Jess; and they did also receive the Holy Ghost. 2 And it came to pass in the thirty and sixth year, the peop were all converted nto the Lord, pon all the face of the land, both Nephites and Lamanites, and there were no contentions and disptions among them, and every man did al jstly one with another. 3 And they had all things common among them; therefore there were not rich and poor, bond and free, bt they were all ma free, and parkers of the heavenly gift. 4 And it came to pass that the thirty and seventh year passed away also, and there still contined to be peace in the land. 5 And there were great and marvelos works wroght by the discips of Jess, insomch that they did heal the sick, and raise the ad, and case the lame to walk, and the blind to receive their sight, and the af to hear; and all manner of miracs did they work among the children of men; and in nothing did they work miracs save it were in the name of Jess. 757

For the Lord did bss them in all their doings; yea, even they were bssed and prospered ntil an hndred and ten years had passed away; and the rst generation from Christ had passed away, and there was no contention in all the land. 19 And it came to pass that Nephi, he that kept this last record, (and he kept it pon the plates of Nephi) died, and his son Amos kept it in his stead; and he kept it pon the plates of Nephi also. 20 And he kept it eighty and for years, and there was still peace in the land, save it were a small part of the peop who had revolted from the chrch and ken pon them the name of Lamanites; therefore there began to be Lamanites again in the land. 759

Y A ë 1¼ já _ 1¼ Ê W Ö Ã F Ï 29 æ Y / & úc Ö ë³ úc c Y 1¼ Q ø á úc Ö Ö 1¼ L ( Ö K - 1 G_ zhè zh ongjiào hì fán zhí dé h nkài 28 yó yú j n zha zhe x n hái y o lìng y ge jiào hì pò hài zh zhong 760 shì f o rèn zhenzhèng jiào hì xiang xìn yó yú zì è q ng shì do sa dàn yó yú ho3 zh lì liang qian bei yó yú xíng 21 And it came to pass that Amos died also, (and it was an hndred and ninety and for years from the coming of Christ) and his son Amos kept the record in his stead; and he also kept it pon the plates of Nephi; and it was also written in the book of Nephi, which is this book. 22 And it came to pass that two hndred years had passed away; and the second generation had all passed away save it were a few. 23 And now I, Mormon, wold that ye shold know that the peop had mltiplied, insomch that they were spread pon all the face of the land, and that they had become exceedingly rich, becase of their prosperity in Christ. 24 And now, in this two hndred and rst year there began to be among them those who were lifted p in pri, sch as the wearing of costly apparel, and all manner of ne pearls, and of the ne things of the world. 25 And from that time forth they did have their goods and their sbsnce no more common among them. 26 And they began to be divid into classes; and they began to bild p chrches nto themselves to get gain, and began to ny the tre chrch of Christ. 27 And it came to pass that when two hndred and ten years had passed away there were many chrches in the land; yea, there were many chrches which professed to know the Christ, and yet they did ny the more parts of his gospel, insomch that they did receive all manner of wickedness, and did administer that which was sacred nto him to whom it had been forbidn becase of nworthiness. 28 And this chrch did mltiply exceedingly becase of iniqity, and becase of the power of San who did get hold pon their hearts. 29 And again, there was another chrch which nied the Christ; and they did persecte the tre chrch of Christ, becase of their hmility and their belief in Christ; and they did spise them becase of the many miracs which were wroght among them.

And they did smite pon the peop of Jess; bt the peop of Jess did not smite again. And ths they did dwind in nbelief and wickedness, from year to year, even ntil two hndred and thirty years had passed away. 35 And now it came to pass in this year, yea, in the two hndred and thirty and rst year, there was a great division among the peop. 36 And it came to pass that in this year there arose a peop who were cald the Nephites, and they were tre believers in Christ; and among them there were those who were cald by the Lamanites Jacobites, and Josephites, and Zoramites; 37 Therefore the tre believers in Christ, and the tre worshipers of Christ, (among whom were the three discips of Jess who shold rry) were cald Nephites, and Jacobites, and Josephites, and Zoramites. 761

And they were ght to hate the children of God, even as the Lamanites were ght to hate the children of Nephi from the beginning. 40 And it came to pass that two hndred and forty and for years had passed away, and ths were the a airs of the peop. And the more wicked part of the peop did wax strong, and became exceedingly more nmeros than were the peop of God. 41 And they did still contine to bild p chrches nto themselves, and adorn them with all manner of precios things. And ths did two hndred and fty years pass away, and also two hndred and sixty years. 42 And it came to pass that the wicked part of the peop began again to bild p the secret oaths and combinations of Gadianton. 43 And also the peop who were cald the peop of Nephi began to be prod in their hearts, becase of their exceeding riches, and become vain like nto their brethren, the Lamanites. 44 And from this time the discips began to sorrow for the sins of the world. 45 And it came to pass that when three hn- dred years had passed away, both the peop of Nephi and the Lamanites had become exceedingly wicked one like nto another. 46 And it came to pass that the robbers of Gadianton did spread over all the face of the land; and there were none that were righteos save it were the discips of Jess. And gold and silver did they lay p in store in abndance, and did tra c in all manner of tra c.
