In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also gather to strengthen ourselves through the study of God s holy and powerful Word. Welcome Worshiper Cards are located in the book racks. Please fill one out and place it in the offering plate later in the service. Restrooms are located in the entryway. Two Nursery rooms are available for parents with small children. Footnotes throughout the worship folder help explain the different parts of the service. PREPARING FOR WORSHIP Today is the last Sunday of the Church Year. The Church Year is an arrangement of week-by-week themes which annually review for us and impress upon our hearts what our Savior God has done for us: his birth, life, ministry, suffering, death, resurrection, exaltation, and rule in our hearts and lives. What an appropriate way to conclude the Church year as we honor Christ the King! PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP The kingdom, the power, and the glory are given to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Your dominion is an everlasting dominion; your kingdom one which shall not be destroyed. Let all the peoples, nations, and languages serve you. Remind me today, and every day, that all things are under your control. Remind me today, and every day, that you rule all things for my good. You ve made me that promise. Help me to trust this promise. I pray this in your name. 3 PRAYER OF THE DAY The greeting and response below expresses the thought contained in the Hebrew word Emmanuel, God with us. This dialog appears in Ruth 2:4 and has been used in Christian worship for nearly 2000 years. M: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. M: Let us pray. Lord Jesus Christ, by your victory you have broken the power of the evil one. Fill our hearts with joy and peace as we look with hope to that day when every creature in heaven and earth will acclaim you King of kings and Lord of lords to your unending praise and glory; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him. 3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 In Bethlehem in Judea, they replied, for this is what the prophet has written: 6 But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel. 7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and search carefully for the child. 7 Easter Proclamation of our Risen King SCRIPTURE LESSON Revelation 19:11-16 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron scepter. M: You are worthy, O Christ our King, to receive honor and glory and praise, for you created all things and by your will they were created and have their being. C: Alleluia! For our Lord God Almighty reigns! M: You are worthy, O Christ our King, to receive honor and glory and praise because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased us for God. From every tribe and language and people and nation, you have called us into your kingdom and have made us priests to serve you, our God and Father. C: Help us live as royal priests. M: We give thanks to you, O Christ our Shepherd-King, because you have searched for us and found us. Lead us to the green pastures and quiet waters of your saving love, so that we may enjoy peace and comfort for our souls. C: Heal our hearts when they are broken with sin and guilt. Strengthen us when we are weak. M: We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. Come with your mighty power to break and defeat every evil plan and purpose of the devil, of the ungodly influences and ideas of the world, and of our own sinful nature. Use your power to calm the unrest among nations and peoples so that your kingdom may spread and grow. C: Strengthen our confidence in knowing that your kingdom will never be destroyed. M: O Christ our King, you have supremacy over all. You will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity. You have destroyed death and brought life to us through the gospel. Reign in our hearts that we may serve you more faithfully and speak more boldly to others of your saving love. C: Praise be to the Lord God, who alone does marvelous deeds.
