Bredesen), "Come, Lord Jesus" (by Carol D. Shuh), the Holy Bible (KJV), the Max Lucado Inspirational Study Bible (NKJV), the Student Study Bible (NIV) and original material by Rod Hagglund, Andrea Laliberté and Wendy Tarry.

December 13, 2015 Advent 3 Prelude Noel Daquin Introit Mary Did You Know Rideau Park Choral Ensemble Welcome Andrea Laliberté Life and Work of the Congregation Call to Worship Led by: Lauren Jensen Harback One: You gave us Lord Jesus on that special Christmas Day. All: Help us to love Him with the things that we say. One: Jesus was a gift to us, You sent Him with Your love. All: Help us to serve Him all our lives and live with You above. One: You gave to us Lord Jesus, Your only begotten Son. All: Help Him live in our hearts what a wonderful thing You ve done. One: Thank Your Father for loving us so much. All: Help us to celebrate Christmas with Your special touch. Amen.
3 Lighting of the Advent Candle JOY Led by: Amanda, Meado, Violet & Lacey Adlard ONE: Martin Luther King Junior said: So even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream I have a dream today! TWO: Those are very inspiring words, but what do they have to do with getting ready for the birth of Christ? We can talk about Martin Luther King Junior in January, but first we have a very busy December to survive. ONE: We need to do more than survive the season of Advent, we should be feeling JOY, knowing that God loves us. The prophet Isaiah believed that one small baby would be the sign. That gives me great joy! TWO: Today, we light our candle of JOY. (light the pink candle) ONE: Let us pray: ALL: O God, as we wait for the birth of Jesus in our worship, help us to hold on to our dreams and to fill our world with joy. Surprise us this week with moments of joy in all that we do and dream, Amen. Advent Song: Dream a Dream #158 MV (Please Stand) Verses 1 & 3 Dream a dream, a hopeful dream, as children do on Christmas Eve, Imaginings, and surprising things to hold and to believe. 13 Rideau Park News 2203 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, ON K1H 7L9 (613) rideaupark.ca Upcoming Worship Events Wednesday, Dec 16 Potluck/Encarna 6:00pm/6:30pm Sunday, Dec 20 Christmas Choir Concert 1:30pm Thursday, Dec 24 Christmas Eve Services 6:30/8:30/10:30pm Christmas Cheer Program The words Christmas Cheer have many meanings but none more meaningful than the Christmas Cheer Program here at Rideau Park. For 25+ years dedicated volunteers have worked to ensure this program has made the Christmas season more cheery and festive for families and their children who otherwise would struggle to provide food for their households. Working closely with the Caring and Sharing Exchange, we are able to identify about 130 families that will greatly benefit from receiving gift cards or a hamper filled with delicious and nutritious food. In order to assist these people we need your help. We are counting on your generosity with your cash donations; we have received $8,175 of our $15,000 goal. Also, we need your help to prepare the orders. Sign-up sheets are posted on the bulletin board at the top of the stairs near the Parlour. Photocopy style boxes (clean) are needed too and can be dropped off at the office anytime until Dec 21. Christmas Cheer envelopes are available on the tables. Please help! Advent Potluck & Service What is Encarna? During Encarna the sanctuary is filled with candle light, sacred music fills the air and each person at their own pace is invited to explore the space. There are stations for prayer and reflection. It is an opportunity to experience the sacred in your own way. One participant described last year s Advent Encarna in this way: The Encarna experience last evening was enchanting. There were very personal exercises like anointing yourself with oil, taking communion, engaging in a breath meditation and sitting with images of Mary and child. There were opportunities to write letters and read Christmas stories. These activities and more were enveloped within beautiful music. I was told I was loved and precious. What a gift. This Wednesday come for a pot luck dinner at 6pm in the Parlour or just come out to Encarna which opens at 6:30pm and will close at 8:30pm. Come when you like. Stay for a few minutes or make it an evening.
14 Opentable: Rideau Park is a partner in a new young adult ministry initiative presented jointly by the United, Anglican, Presbyterian and Lutheran communities in Ottawa. Opentable is an open (free) supper serving the Carleton community from Trinity Anglican on Bank Street on the second Sunday of each month. Doors open at 5:30pm. Dinner is at 6pm. Rideau Park is providing the meal tonight. If you are interested in helping please speak to Steve today. Please join us for the Christmas Celebration Concert on Sunday Dec 20th, at 1:30 pm. The concert features the Chancel Choir, singing Vivaldi s Gloria; an organ solo, arranged by our organist Andrew Ager; the Joyful Noise Children s Choir and the Touch of Brass Handbells. Enjoy Christmas music and sing some of your favourite carols. All are welcome. Freewill offering. No tickets to be purchased. More information: ext. 229, or Office Hours Please note that the church office will be closed from 1:00 p.m. on December 14th until January 4th, This will give our staff some much needed R & R; however, Rev. Steve Clifton will have the pager in the event of an emergency and our Administrator, Debi Brown, will come in on December 31st to receive any year end donations. SCOTLAND: THE HIGHLANDS, THE ISLANDS & THE TATTOO. Discover the beauty and history of SCOTLAND in a 13 day all inclusive tour. Aug. 3-13th, Only 7 spaces left. Ask Georgina for a brochure Offering Envelopes can be picked up from the Sunday school counter. Search Committee The Ministry and Personnel Committee wish to advise the congregation that a Search Committee has now been put in place to begin the search for a Music Director/Music Team. They are currently reviewing the Job Description and it is hoped that they will have some recommendations for Council when it meets in January. If you have any questions or comments please speak to a member of the M & P Committee or Rod Hagglund who is chairing the Search Committee. We will keep you advised. Keep in mind worshippers who have limited mobility. Parking in the parking spots beside Cunningham makes it easier for them to come to church, so if you don t have the need, please use a parking spot on the Beecroft side or in the back parking lot. Thank you.
15 Refugee Update: We are pleased to inform you that the Syrian family arrived from Cairo on Wed, Dec 9th at 9:15pm, tired but happy. Also the members of the Federation of Legal Societies with whom we are also working are anxiously waiting for word when their family will arrive and we will keep you advised. Rideau Park will also be applying for a family at the beginning of January. Although this family will receive support from the Government, we also need additional funds to assist them. We have placed back packs at both entrances to the Sanctuary and all funds received in these back packs will be used to assist this family. We will keep you advised and the meantime hope you will support this initiative generously. Please speak to Marilyn Law if you have any questions or comments. Support Joyful Noise at an Ottawa 67s game Joyful Noise will be singing the National Anthem on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Ottawa 67s game. Tickets are $18 each and can be purchased through The Allo Family (family.allo@gmail.com). We are compiling an notification list for those who wish to be notified of all RPUC deaths and funerals. Please administrator@rideaupark.ca to be added to the list. Peace of mind, lower blood pressure, greater calm in crisis, heightened mindfulness, greater intimacy with God these are some of the benefits of meditation. Why not join our group for meditation from 9:10am to 9:30am on Sundays? Why not give meditation a try? And if you would like to know more about meditation in the Christian tradition you can visit: Or speak to Steve to learn more about our group. The 64th Anniversary Survey The Worship and Music Committee is thinking about possible programming for our "2nd hour" on Sunday morning. Are there activities, groups or opportunities for action that might happen after our church services on Sunday? These might be a one time event or something more regular. Please fill out our survey and let us know what you think. A link to the survey is found on the RPUC website, on our Facebook page and paper copies are available at the church entrances today. DO come to visit the RPUC Library! Need to get a life, either real or imagined? Have a look at some biographies and novels from the library there s something for everyone. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Announcements for RPNews MUST be ed to: adminassist@rideaupark.ca, or brought to the office, no later than 4:00 p.m. on the Wednesdays before the Sunday services, please. Thank you.
