2 A BACKSLIDER'S PLEA Psalm 51:1-7 THE BI LE ES s PROBLEM OF BACKSLIDING. A SUBJECT WHICH R S ATTENTION IN S WORD MUST INDEED BE OF REAL SIGNIFICANCE THE EYES OF OUR LORD. YET WE NEED TO DEFINE THE TERM -- WHAT IS A BACKSLIDER? A BACKSLIDER IS ONE DRIFTED FROM A FORMER WITH THE LORD. HE IS ONE WHO HAS ACCEPTED CHRIST AS HIS SAVIOUR, HAS KNOWN THE JOY OF SALVATION HAS ALLOWED SIN, IN ONE FORM -OR ANOTHER, TO CREEP LIFE AND TO MAKE HIM INDIFFERENT TOWARD HIS UNHAPPY IN HIS SPIRITUAL CONDITION. A BACKSLIDER CAN ER HOPE TO BE HAPPY. E A CHRISTIAN, HE CAN NEVER RID HIMSELF OF THE CONDEMNING POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WHICH CDD. HIS ONLY HOPE FOR PEACE IS... '~ek_~ei. --Vs. la Before David mentions his sin, he appeals to God for mercy. does say, "My for that would have been presumption. His sin had alienated him from God. Yes, he was not worthy to be called his father's son but yet he remained his father's son.
