1 Eisenhower Church of Christ How Big Is Your God? One of the real dangers threatening the world today surrounds the notion that we will accept an improper rationalization of God, that is, a perception of God that is less than it ought to be. I know that it is hard to realize, to visualize how great God is, and because of this, we sometimes see Him as a God that is too small. However, knowing that God is great, we should urge one another not to make this kind of mistake. There should be no doubt that as we perceive the true God of Heaven, the length and height of our overall service will be reflected in how we perceive His Majesty. What is your concept of God? If it is too small, then it is apparent that you have not taken advantage of the evidence found within the Holy Writ. If your perception of God is too big, then you have exaggerated the evidence found within the Word of God. The only real way to gain the proper impression of God is to allow His written revelation to speak for itself (II Tim. 3:16-17; Is. 46:9). To begin, there is only one true concept of God. Notice the words of Moses when he said, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light (Gen 1:1-3). This statement is declaring to all the beginning of the creation process. It displays both the power and greatness of God as He literally speaks things into existence. Think about it, doesn t that demonstrate how great He truly is? This ought to cause every one of us to praise Him for His greatness. However, not all people hold to this truthful perception of God. There are even numerous examples found within the Holy Writ of individuals who have either rejected the greatness of God or have discarded His literal existence. One such person was the ruler of Egypt. After Moses had tried to get Pharaoh to let God s people go (Ex.5:1), Pharaoh responded by saying, Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, nor will I let Israel go (Ex 5:2). Is there any doubt in our minds that Pharaoh had rejected the greatness of God? Yet, when death came to the firstborn of Pharaoh (Ex 11:1ff), he suddenly learned that his view of God was too small! Another example of someone who held the wrong concept of God was Goliath. Of course, this giant of a Philistine had stood against the people of Israel and had defied the armies of the living God (I Sam. 17:8-10). Yet, David confronted this giant and said, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands (I Sam. 17:45-46). On that faithful day, Goliath and the entire Philistine army came to know that their perception of the God of Heaven was way too small.

2 Let us all realize that the evidence for the greatness of God is overwhelming. There should never be any doubt as to His greatness nor His majesty. May we all strive to avoid the snares that Satan has set, which entrapped men of old like Pharaoh and Goliath, in order to make the God of Heaven too small. What is your view of God? AKW Response Our hearts were made to rejoice on Sunday, January 16th when Cameron May responded to the invitation call. He came forward stating that he had been letting his own desires overshadow what he knew was right instead of letting God lead his life. Please keep Cameron in your prayers that he may stay strong for the Lord. Sympathy We are saddened by the recent passing of Ina Folk. Ina passed from this life on Monday, January 17th. Her funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 20 th at the Gardendale Church of Christ. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at the Gaines County Cemetery. Concerns Update Bill Brown had an MRI done on Monday, January 17th to find out the cause of pain in one of his legs. Haley Erwin, daughter of Carie Basaldua and granddaughter of Devida Montgomery has been having knee problems. She is dealing with pain and has some fluid around the knee area. Haley had an MRI done and will be seeing an Arthroscopic specialist on February 10th. Mickey Jackson, a former member here at Eisenhower is in CCU at the Alliance Hospital. She is suffering from a double stroke on both sides due to the formation of blood clots following a corrective procedure done after her surgery. Mickey has pneumonia now, but is able to breath on her own. 3 The next W.E.S.T. Texas Youth Fellowship will be held on Sunday, February 20th at the Sherwood Church of Christ at 5:00 p.m. for worship, fellowship and a meal afterwards. Remember our Fifth Sunday Potluck Luncheon which will be on January 30th. We will have New Mexico Christian Children s Home in Portales will be in Odessa on February 28th to pick up the food that the area churches have collected for them.
