Come celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Huntington Beach Stake by planning to spend the entire day at the temple if you can or any part of the day your schedule permits. The new Family History Center is a wonderful place to get started on finding your own family names. This year we are inviting all stake members to have the Experience of bringing their own family names to the temple. For that reason, it is good to start preparing early. Each ward has many family history consultants who have been called and trained in conjunction with the dedication of the new Family History Center. ANNOUNCEMENTS a) NPB Temple History: All members are encouraged to respond to a request from the Church History Department to collect Newport Beach Temple history. Members can help in following two ways: First, you are invited to share any artifacts, personal stories, photographs and other memorabilia related to the Newport Beach Temple construction, celebration and dedication. Second, you are invited to share personal stories by writing on "How the Temple has Blessed My Life". In both cases, please provide any information to Smith Reynolds at Smith_Reynolds@yahoo.com by September 30th. b) Family History Center: The new Family History Center (FHC) just finished construction. The equipment is the most modern technology. In the Center there are 17 all-in-one 22 screen computers. Fifteen of those computers are also touch screen. For training, there is a 75 inch touch screen TV in the Research Room with 16 of the computers. The FHC is having classes twice a month to help others learn how to research family histories. Please visit the FHC during the following operating hours: 9am to 5pm on Mondays and Fridays 9am to 9pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 9am to 3pm on Saturdays Contact: Sister Lonna Ward, Director Family History Center. 7. Upcoming Events THIS WEEK: a) Annual Stake Youth Standards Night Fireside, Sunday September 18 th at 5:00pm in the stake center chapel. b) BeSmart Education Fireside Thursday, September 22, 2016, 7:00PM, Mission Viejo Stake Center (27976 Marguerite Parkway, Mission Viejo, CA 92692). We are invited to attend a BeSmart Education Fireside presented by BYU Institute of Religion. Youth ages 12-18, parents of youth, and youth leaders are invited to attend this one-hour multimedia presentation. Fireside seeks to: (1) encourage youth to follow prophetic counsel and get all the education they can, (2) Communicate important information about preparing for college, and (3) Present the variety of options students have within the Church Education System. This year we are having our Stake Backpacking Campout at a familiar spot...little Jimmy Campground. However, we will be hiking a completely different and re-built trail that all of our Scouts and Scouter should enjoy. Bringing specialists in their field in, to teach our community and attendees how to search, preserve and move forward in their genealogy and family history research. Hope to see you there! e) Temple 2 Temple Humanitarian Bike Ride, Saturday October 8, The HB stake is excited to participate in the Temple 2 Temple Bike ride that meets at the Redlands Temple and rides to our very own Newport Beach Temple. Riders are not required to pay anything to ride but the event is asking for donations to support the homeless communities of Southern California. There are multiple rest stations throughout the ride so you may start at any of the rest stations if Redlands is too far for you. Our Stake will be helping with logistics so you don t have to worry about driving back to Redlands once you get to Newport Beach. RS Presidents, HP Group Leaders, EQ Presidents and YM/YW Presidents please invite and announce this fun event to your wards. Please follow up with Natalie McCann from the Seapoint Ward with any questions and let her know if you can attend as we need a head count to arrange for rides to Redlands Temple. f) FAST SUNDAY, October 9 th, 2016 due to General Conference. Please make note of it in your calendars. g) Just for Youth - October 15, at 6:00pm at the Cypress Stake building 5151 Orange Ave, Cypress, CA Cypress Stake hosts a "Just for Youth" Multi-stake event where there is a fireside with two speakers, an all you can eat Pizza Feast, and a Dance. There has been up to 800 youth and adult leaders attend each event. It's a wonderful venue where youth can be inspired and nurtured with the good word of God and to socialize with other youth with high standards. 4 i) Tabernacle Replica Date: TBD at the Huntington Beach Stake Center (8702 Atlanta Ave). Under the direction of Dr. Donald W. Parry, world authority and professor of the Hebrew Bible, come see a LIFE-SIZE replica of the Tabernacle of Moses, to the specifications indicated in the Old Testament. The tabernacle s structure and furnishings teach us important principles that help us want to feel closer to our Savior. Building permits are being acquired.
