The main base of rusticated hewn-stone and masonry blocks extend the width of the house to wrap mound the end to fom a semi-oval portico on the south side. se his portico has been glassed in by present owner, The second floor balcony, supported by small classic columns of this portico has also been enclosed). Balustrades zcrass the front width of the buildings is interrupted at regular spaced intervals by three foot colunns of rusticated hewn stone masomy blocks. A semi-circle portico over 1 the wide front entrance is supported by four'two-story Corinthian columns. Dentils are widelyspaced, The frieze appears to be a continous kiglyph pattern, This entablature is topped by the turned balusters of the thiyd floor balcony which adds to the feeling of grandeur. Entrance to this balcony is through double glassed doors leasing out from the third floor ballroom. The heavy double doors of the entrance have insets of leaded glass. The foyer opens into a double parlor, aelineated by oak columns. The smaller Horth parlor could have been used as a sitting room with the larger parlor used on more formal occasions. This parlor features a blue-tjled fireplace, bordered in understated carved oak. t 2s most unusual in that a small cuboard is built aver the fireplace with two glass doors. Nindows in here as in the formal parlor, dining room and library are leaded. There is an entry to the library from this North parlor. Also from the North parlor, the wide atairway leads up to the wecond floor. The first low landing widens to form a large bay. Built-in seats hug the bay contour, beneath six windows. t provides a cozy place for a chat or to read or do needlework, Heavg,dmk, crossed beams can be found in the ceiling of the aouble pmlor and the large dining.xoorn that can be entered - either through the double doors of the ibrmy or through the double doors of the South parlor. Themdining room is quite large, A single door leads though a pantry "t the kitchen. Another door leads out to the enclosed south porch. orginal brass chandelier with gas jets remains over the banquet size table.

The craftsaen e~played in its building were pastic urlarly fine-skilled as evidenced by beautiful attention to fine detail md solie construction, The woodwork in the house done is a monument to the men who took great pride in their cra,4*. This house was built to withstand the passage of time, t has done so and will continue to do so. Like a fine painting, it should be perserved to be admired and enjoyed by future generations. The two large lots occupied by this house and its pounds was first owned by Jeremiah Kannady who purchased it from 'the government in 1837, n 1841, he sold the la~d to his uncle, Captain John Rogers, founder of the city of Port Snith, Tbxough the j800ps the property was passed through tne hands of several of Fort Smith's leading citizens. in 1904* these Lots was purchased by Angus and Elizabeth XcLeod. Building on the house was started that same year but was not fidshed until 1905, McLeod was owner and operater of the Port Smith Contract Company. His company was given the contract to furmish.railroad ties for the Port Smith and Western. Pfr. McLeod was in dire financial. straits when he was forced to sell his house in 1334 for 5102,500, Although that was considered quite expensive for a home in those yeaxs, it is doubtful that it covered the cost of building for the house used many imported materials, The Wolfe-Pollack family that purchased the house awned and operated for many yeass the largest md finest deptartment stores in the city, Starting with a small country supply store, through hard work and sucessf til managing, this family became leaders in the business -cornunity as well as in the social and civfc affairs. ThLs business was finally sold by the fanily aro'md The family continues to hold a prominent glace in Fort Snith. hk. and ks, Pollack decided to buy a smaller house in their later years. The present owner purchased the house in 1358, She s the widow of qk, Paul Rush, a Fort Smith businessman that held
