Bog i Hrvati Len Stulich KT Tour to Croatia 2013 The Kralj Tomislav Senior Folklore Ensemble have recently returned from yet another highly successful tour of Croatia. Together with Ti Ihi Connections from Wellington, and seven members of Klapa Samoana from Auckland, the group assembled in Zagreb on the 27th of June which marked the start of their tour through the Northern regions of Croatia. The first few days were focused on rehearsals, together with the HRT Tamburica Orchestra and special guest soloists in preparation for what was to be the most prestigious and important concert of the tour- the televised performance in Opatija on the 4th of July. From Zagreb the group travelled to Rovijn, where they were based for 6 days, in the beautiful Amarin Resort. The first performance in Bale marked what was to be the start of many stellar shows, followed by another outstanding concert in Pula, in the grounds of the Kaštel overlooking the city. The 'Tarara Tour' as it was known, was highly publicized throughout Croatia, with billboards and posters plastered all over the towns the group was to visit. Our highlight concert- in Opatija on the 4th of July was an experience the groups will never forget. Sharing the stage with Croatian superstars such as Đani Stipaničev, Miroslav Škoro, Vedran Mlikota, and Jacques Houdek, this highly anticipated show was filmed by Hrvatska Televisia, and televised at primetime the following Saturday evening throughout Croatia. The group was delighted to have an audience filled with family, friends, and dignitaries, including MP Paula Bennet, and our very own President Len Stulich. The following morning the group boarded their bus and made their way across country to the town of Djakovo, where they were to participate in the Đakovački Vezovi Festival' with countless groups from across Croatia and the rest of the world. After showcasing their unique repertoires, both Ti Ihi Connections and the Klapa Samoana dominated both local and national media, as being the standout performers of the festival. Our own senior ensemble was also highly commended for their professionalism and skill by all those who participated. The last two concerts in Našice and finally Krapina were again received with great enthusiasm and standing ovations. Throughout the entire tour, so many generous sponsors and friends treated the group to incredible sightseeing experiences and hospitality.
3 The group would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who made this experience possible. To Mate Junjovic, for once again supplying the transport throughout the tour, to their tour leader, Marko Purič and official photographer, Davor Dragičević, and all the major sponsors whom without their generous support this would not have been possible. Thank you to the Croatian Cultural Society, and everyone in New Zealand who kindly donated towards this tourwe are so grateful. Finally and most importantly- the group would like to say the biggest thank you to Krešimir Starčević and his family for their continuing support of the group and the Croatian Cultural Society of New Zealand. Their commitment and love of all things Folklore and the special bond that we share has given the group he opportunity to experience their culture and heritage in a way that they could never have imagined. All this helped towards strengthening the ties between NZ and our homeland both for this generation and the next. We are forever in their debt.
