One doesn t have to look far to see our world is in turmoil. The daily news and the emergence of cable news that has to fill 24 hours with information tends to repeat tragic events in our fallen world over and over. The Bible offers us hope in the midst of such trouble. Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. In the Old Testament as well we see how David wrote many psalms to encourage us in trials. In fact, a third of all Psalms are laments. The Psalms are a good place to read when we are discouraged or being buffeted by life s trials. Psalm 3 is one of my favorites. Psalm 3 King James Version (KJV) 1Lord, how are they increased that trouble me. 2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no for him in God. Selah. 3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. 4I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. 5I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. 6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. 7Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. 8Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people. Psalm 3 contains some help for us. First, KNOW GOD IS YOUR SHIELD, KNOW GOD IS YOUR GLORY, and KNOW GOD IS THE GLORY AND LIFTER OF YOUR HEAD. David tells of being assaulted on every side. He is feeling attacked. There are those trying to discourage him. (Verses 2-3) THEN HE CALLS ON THE LORD. He cries out to the Lord. Verse 3, AND GOD HEARD HIM. continued on page 2

(Verses 5-5) He is at peace, no longer afraid. He has confidence in God that his enemies will not triumph over him. (Verse 7) He sets HIS WILL and declares I will not be afraid (verse 6) No matter what comes our way, we MUST TRUST GOD. Call out to Him in faith and He will hear and answer! There are many promises in His Word you can stand upon. PRAISE GOD HE IS A PRESENT HELP IN TIME OF TROUBLE! Care Net Mother s Day Campaign Bottles will be distributed on Mother s Day, May 14th and collected on Father s Day, June 18th. Pick up your baby bottles in the foyer after the service. 7 Herald of Hope Page 7 UPDATE by Jeff Jensen Big Thank You from Pastor Sarfraz and Family I have received several notes of gratitude and appreciation for the great and generous outpouring of financial support for his family s expired visa fines of $3800. That goal has been reached and exceeded! On April 25 they had their final round of shots and ticketing and departure to Nova Scotia, Canada will be quick to follow. Pastor Sarfraz has asked for continued prayer support for strength, wisdom, protection and supply for unexpected needs and situations. Pray for grace to relocate and adjust to new culture and climate and for guidance as God opens new doors of opportunity for this wonderful family.

8 Page 8 Volume XXVIII, Issue 5 NGM God is good! All the time! In April Spring has arrived! Praise the Lord in all things! In March, basically all of our groups; Sunday Morning, Youth Church, Wednesday Night Seekers, and Youth, have been continuing our studying about some of the truths about our faith and how so many things try to interrupt our walk with the Lord - things like fear, doubt, and unforgiveness. God is good...all the time. Ascension Convention Ascension Convention (AC) is a 3 day youth conference hosted by Christian Life College (CLC) held each year in Chicago, IL. This year s guest speaker was Reggie Dabbs and Derrick Wright. Each year Reggie has been bringing a variety of messages to but the one thing he does that I so appreciate is he stirs the Holy Spirit in us. It is so good to see our Youth all about 2o4whip, responding to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and praying with and for each other. There was not one youth who went that did not have an encounter with what the Holy Spirit is doing! The Youth group will continue to meet each Wednesday through the summer to prepare for Vacation Bible School. All regular classes will resume in September.

9 Herald of Hope Page 9 GOD S PLAN OF SALVATION Where will you spend ETERNITY? It only matters what the Bible says, not tradition, churches, religious leaders, scholars, books, visions, opinions, or any other entity. It is the responsibility of each of us to seek out the truth and to find the right way. Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. What the Bible says about each of us: 1. All are sinners with imperfect hearts in God s eyes: - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23 - For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. Ecclesiastes 7: There is an eternal penalty for sin: -For the wages of sin is death; Romans 6:23a -He that believeth on the son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. John 3:36 -And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Rev. 20:15 3. The Lord Jesus Christ paid the penalty for the sin of mankind: -But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 - Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, Revelation 1:5b Knowing the above alone will not save your soul. What the Bible says we must do: 4. Repent, turn from sin and turn to God: - except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 13:3 - Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 30:21 5. Believe on and receive the Lord Jesus Christ, and Him alone, as your personal Lord and Saviour: - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9 If you have received Jesus Christ as your Saviour, as a Christian you should: Read your Bible every day to get to know Christ better. (2 Timothy 2:15) (Psalm 119:105) Talk to God in prayer every day. (Matthew 21:22) (Philippians 4:6) Be baptized, worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a church where Christ is preached and the Bible is the final authority. (Matthew 28:19) (Hebrews 10:25) (2 Timothy 3:16) Tell others about Christ. (Mark 16:15) (1 Corinthians 9:16) (Romans 1:16)
