2 Course/Module description: A comparative, historical analysis of the book as physical product, cultural phenomenon and religious instrument in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Focus on the role of the book in ritual and culture; its roles in the creation and preservation of knowledge; the processes of canonization; written vs. oral books, and technological and aesthetic developments in the format of the written book. Course/Module aims: Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: To intimately understand the cultural, religious and social roles of books in the three monontheistic religions. They will acquire tools for gaining knowledge about similar subjects in these religions.
