1 Omer Day 45- Psalm 19:7-11- THE LAW OF GOD BA-RUCH A-TAH ADO-NAI E-LO-HE-NU ME-LECH HA-OLAM ASHER KID-E-SHA-NU BE- MITZ-VO-TAV VETZI-VA-NU AL SEFI-RAT HA-OMER. Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us concerning the counting of the Omer. Master of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count Sefirat Ha-Omer, in order to purify us from our evil and uncleanness. As You have written in Your Torah, "You shall count for yourselves from the day following the day of rest, from the day on which you bring the Omer as a waveoffering; [the counting] shall be for seven full weeks. Until the day following the seventh week shall you count fifty days," so that the souls of Your people Israel may be cleansed from their defilement. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of our fathers, that in the merit of the Sefirat Ha-Omer which I counted today, the blemish that I have caused in the sefirah Tiferes ShebeChesed be rectified and I may be purified and sanctified with supernal holiness. May abundant bounty thereby be bestowed upon all the worlds. May it rectify our nefesh, ruach and neshamah from every baseness and defect, and may it purify and sanctify us with Your supernal holiness. Psa 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Psa 19:8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. Psa 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. Psa 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 5 The Importance of Torah i The story of Creation-Revelation-Completion is fulfilled in Yeshua the Messiah, but it begins in the Torah, the foundational document for all expressions of Judaism. To this day Jewish worshipers carry scrolls of the Torah through the congregation, as described in this contemporary synagogue service: Why do they take the Torahs out for a walk? Because everyone is equally entitled to honor the handwritten sacred scrolls by touching them. This is never done directly, but by reaching out with a prayer book or tallis, touching the Torah with it, and then kissing the place where it made contact. In Judaism, belief in God is optional, something you may wrestle with your entire life. But respect for and fascination with the Torah, the first record of men and women s struggles with belief in God, is not optional. And the Torahs themselves are both holy and wholly accessible. There are endless rules about how to dress, undress, unroll and read them, but they are meant to be read and studied, not worshipped. A Torah is meant to be honored as a living presence, not an icon. 2 Eighteen centuries earlier, the Jewish sages (who certainly did not consider belief in God to be optional!) described the Torah as foundational to all human existence. The world stands on three things the Torah, the [Temple] service, and loving acts of kindness. 3 Building upon this conviction, pious Jews for centuries have devoted themselves to the study and application of Torah, including the highly developed body of law that is derived from this highly esteemed document. Indeed, it is hard to imagine Jewish life apart from the active engagement with the text of Torah and its teachings. Christianity, in contrast, has tended to emphasize the transitional aspect of Torah as as a custodian until the Messiah came (Gal. 3:24, CJB). Indeed, Christian rhetoric sometimes portrays law, or Torah, the Hebrew term, in entirely negative terms, as a source of bondage and condemnation. But, of course, this is not the language of Yeshua, who said, Don t think that I have come to abolish the Torah or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete. Yes indeed! I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, not so much as a yud or a stroke will pass from the Torah not until everything that must happen has happened (Matt. 5:17 18, CJB). Nor is it the language of Paul in Romans 7:12, So the Torah is holy; that is, the commandment is holy, just and good (CJB).
