1 Mountaintop Worship 8 - April Daniel & Friends The Point: God is our Deliverer Storyline: Friends in the Furnace & Daniel in the Den Make the Point: 1. God makes us strong with his Holy Spirit. 2. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who will take care of us. 3. We can stand up for God like David. Presentation Ideas: Week One & Two Friends in the Furnace (Daniel 3) 1. Show the DVD of the 2011 VBS play, The Fiery Furnace. You can also use the Read and Share Bible DVD. 2. Emphasize: - King Nebuchadnezzar ordered everyone to worship the golden idol. It was 10 feet wide and 90 feet tall. - Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow to anyone except Jehovah. - They said, If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up. 3. Invite a firefighter in to show his gear and tell about a fire rescue. 4. Talk about how God sent Jesus to rescue us from the eternal fiery furnace. Have kids bow face down or lift hands up to God and say a prayer of thanksgiving to God for rescuing us. 5. Tug of War Object lesson (attached) Week Three & Four Daniel in the Lion s Den (Daniel 6) 1. Show a clip from the National Geographic video about Lions. 2. Show the DVD of the 2011 VBS play, Daniel in the Lion s Den You can also use the Read and Share Bible DVD. 3. Emphasize: - Daniel prayed to God every day and even when he knew he would be in big trouble for praying, he prayed anyway. - Daniel was so faithful to God that everyone knew he would serve God no matter what. The jealous leaders knew it and King Darius knew, too. When he had Daniel thrown to the lions, the king said, Your God the one you are always serving will save you! 4. One way to serve God is to be kind and good to each other. 2 Puppets: Each week, one puppet will help you with intro and close out with Quiet Seat winners. We will have a puppet production the 2 nd and 4 th weeks. 3 Object Lesson: Fiery Furnance Object Lesson Tug of War Object: Rope Scripture: So what should we say about this? If God is with us, then no one can defeat us. Romans 8:31 Lay the rope in a long line on the floor. Read the Scripture. If God is for us, who can be against us? Paul, who wrote the book of Romans, is talking about a war. It s like the game Tug of War. Let s play the game with boys on this side and girls on this side. Choose four or five boys and two of the smallest girls to play. H mm. Something s not right here. There are only two girls versus all of these boys. We need some help. Ask two or three of the strongest adults to come up and help the girls. The boys will probably complain about this being unfair. Do you think it s not fair? There are still only two girls but now they have help! Let them play tug of war. It s just like Paul says in Romans. No matter how strong our enemy is like King Nebuchadnezzar, no matter how big the idol is like that golden statue if God is on our side, we will win! Sometimes we feel like too many things or people are ganging up on us. But God is on our side. And if God is for us, then who can be against us?

4 Hide It In Your Heart: Psalm 31:23,24 Help the children to learn this scripture by using the props and motions as memory pegs. Let eight kids come up to hold a prop or make the motion at the right time. On the first time through, be sure to explain anything they might need help understanding. April & May: Psalm 31:23,24 Love the Lord, (Hug yourself) all his saints! (Hold up halo) The Lord preserves the faithful, (Hold up life preserver) but the proud (Put nose in the air) he pays back in full. (Spank with paddle) Be strong (Show muscle arms) and take heart, (Hold up heart) all you who hope in the Lord. (Show praying hands)

5 Weekly Opening Routine 1. Sing them in - Children respond well to structure. Try starting off each week with a song as children are entering the room. ( He has made me glad is one of many terrific songs for a good start.) 2. Tribe Shout Outs - Each of the tribes has its own shout out. Ask each tribe to call it out to you: o Rams say, Rams! Pow! as they make two fists and bump together o Lions say, Roar! with claws out. o Eagles say, Caw, Caw using hands to open and close like a beak. o Bears say, GRRRRR using hands as bear paws. 3. Theme Verse - Help the children learn the PEAK theme verse, Isaiah 2:3, using the motions shown by Steven Hovater in the youtube link: Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.
