Taking Torah to the Nations! 3/17/12 VAYAKHEL And he assembled / PEKUDEI Accountings Ex / I Kings 7-8/ Mark 15, 16 Pastor Mark Biltz We end the book of Exodus and next week we begin Leviticus! In todays double torah portion we have the assembling of the tabernacle and the Glory of God falling among the assembly. Exodus 35:1 And Moses assembled lhqyw all the congregation of the children of Israel, and said unto them, These are the words which Jehovah hath commanded, that ye should do them. Exodus 40:2,3,34,35 On the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation. And thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and cover the ark with the vail. Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. In the haftarah portion we have the building of the first Temple with all its instruments and the glory falling: 1Kings 8:1,2 Then Solomon assembled lhqyw the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion. And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. What do we find in Acts: Acts 2:1-3 And when the day of Pentecost/Shavuot was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 2 Deuteronomy 16:16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty: In the building of the tabernacle and the Temple the glory didn t fall until it was completed. While God was with them the whole time, He didn t inhabit it until it was finished. Ephesians 2:19-22 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the <Jewish>apostles and <Jewish>prophets, Yeshua ha Mashiach himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Not one person but all of us together. As the people assembled together to build the tabernacle their desire was to bring God s glory from heaven down to earth. At the first the children of Israel not wanting to wait for instructions assembled together to build an idol rather than letting the God s Torah/instruction bring the definition of how God wanted it to be done. Religion and Spirituality without Torah only lead to paganism and idolatry. Let Torah give the definition. Here is Leviticus 8:3 in Greek Septuagint: The Septuagint was written around 320BC were there any churches at that time? For that matter were there any churches around the time of Moses in 1500 BC? (ecclesia) The church is not a New Testament phenomenon! By using this word it makes us think of the church as being distinct from the Jewish people. So when we say, when did the church begin everyone says in Acts. That is replacement theology. There were no churches in the New Testament. There were only assemblies meeting in synagogues. The Assembly of called out ones began in Exodus not in Acts. Replacement theology implies the church was called out of Israel which is just the opposite of the truth in that non Jews who have been called out of the world of paganism and idolatry are grafted in to Israel who were and are the called out ones! Hebrews 11:32-40 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephtha; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. The Old Covenant was not works based while the New Covenant is Grace based So what is/was the New Covenant? Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Hebrews 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Was there fault with the Torah, or with the people? God needed New Creatures! 2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law (Torah) in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jeremiah 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Jeremiah 31:35,36 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me forever. Jeremiah 31:37 Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD. 5 P a g e

6 So to summarize, what is the New Covenant? 1. God will write the Torah on the hearts of the house of Israel & Judah 2. God will forgive Israel s wickedness 3. God will not remember Israel s sins 4. All Israel will know the Lord 5. Israel will never cease to be a nation before God 6. God will never reject the seed of Israel 7. God will rebuild Jerusalem as an eternal city Holy unto the Lord So has the New Covenant been completely fulfilled? The Books of the New Testament are the letters trying to explain how you can find the New Covenant in the Torah, the Prophets and the Writings! Romans 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. Romans 11:2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Romans 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: Exodus 35:2a Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: Isaiah 58:13,14 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on My holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, (Oneg) the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight (Anag)thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. Psalms 37:3-7 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Exodus 38:21 This is the sum of the tabernacle, even of the tabernacle of testimony, as it was counted, according to the commandment of Moses, for the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar, son to Aaron the priest. The midrash states that Moshe heard people expressing suspicion about his appropriation of the money, in terms of whether he kept any for himself. Numbers 16:15 And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them. 6 P a g e

7 Numbers 12:7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. When the construction of the tabernacle was completed, Moshe gave an accounting of all of the materials which were collected for it, and where they were used in the project. Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Exodus 30:13 This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the LORD. Exodus 30:15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls. Exodus 36:3 And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning. Exodus 38:24 All the gold that was occupied for the work in all the work of the holy place, even the gold of the offering, was twenty and nine talents, and seven hundred and thirty shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary. And the silver of them that were numbered of the congregation was an hundred talents, and a thousand seven hundred and threescore and fifteen shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary: Exodus 38:26 a beka eqb a head tlglg, that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that passed over to them that were numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men. So here we see the half shekel was for the building of the house of God where He would meet with His bride. Remember: Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: eqb Bekah; to cleave #1234 eqb baqa`, baw-kah' a primitive root; to cleave; to break, ½ shekel = 1 beka This word eqb Bekah is found only twice in scripture. 8 and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell: But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac. Genesis 24:22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel eqb weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold; So here it is for the taking of the bride. So here the groom gives a half shekel for His bride and now we see the bride bringing a half shekel, her dowry to the groom for the building of their house! Exodus 38:26 a beka eqb a head tlglg #1538 tlglg gul-go'-leth a skull by implication, a head Mark 15:22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. So when the bible says one beka gulgolet eqb tlglg was needed for the building of the sanctuary to accept the sacrifices it could also be read as what was needed was one broken at Golgotha! And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Did something go wrong? Was Moses unworthy? Exodus 24:15,16 And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. Here God moves right into their midst coming near to them but they can t come near to Him. God is near to us spatially but we can be far from Him relationally. Offering #7133 kor-bawn'; something brought near the altar, i.e. a sacrificial present: Do we want the glory to fall? It will fall when Jew and gentile come together in one accord and ask for it to fall. Chazak, chazak, ve-nitchazek! Be strong, be strong, and let us be strengthened! 9 P a g e
