He is not only our Creator and our Father; He is also our Provider, and the most trustworthy, faithful Being ever. During this quarter, you will learn more about God and how we can depend on Him. You will also learn ways we can worship Him, giving Him all the credit He deserves. During these lessons, do not be afraid to ask questions. Sometimes you may be confused or unclear about something. That is OK, and it is normal. You may learn about things this quarter that you never heard of before. Tuck this knowledge away in your heart for future use. Each week you will read about God s provision and how His followers worshipped Him. Do you know what the word worship means? It is basically an expression of adoration (to adore someone), the object of which is usually God (although we can worship other things). Sometimes we can get stuck thinking that worship always means singing. However, there are a variety of expressions of worship. You will learn about many of them this quarter. Some of the forms of worship you will learn about include sacrificing animals (which we no longer do), prayers, songs, obedience, trust, and letting God be in charge of our lives. Some of the ways we worship happen within the structure of a Sunday gathering at church. Others are more individual. A very important fact to keep in mind is that everything we have is because of, and comes from, God. He protects us, He guides us, and He loves us. When we turn from Him (which humans are prone to do), He is right there waiting for us to return. And do you know what? He has no hesitation in forgiving us when we come to Him with humble hearts, understanding who He is and who we are. There will be times in each of our lives (maybe you have already had some) when things do not go the way we want, and life is hard. Sometimes we will even want to blame God. From these lessons, however, you will learn that God always has our best interests at heart. While we may change, He is unchanging. The same God who parted the Red Sea to give the Israelites safe passage loves us and wants our love in return! He has not changed one bit! So as you study these passages and read how people in the past worshipped and honored God with everything, take note. Pay attention. There are many lessons you can take away about how to give God the glory He deserves. God bless you, 2 Amy Zimmerman

4 God s Faithfulness We all have time in our lives when we are fearful or sad. That is why it is so important to always turn our minds toward how great God is. 5 Ryan s Lesson Ryan sat in his Sunday school class listening to his teacher talk about what the Bible says about giving. Ryan liked the idea of giving money back to God. In fact, he knew his parents wrote a check every time they were paid. His mom had explained that when they paid bills, they always wrote their check to the church first. God wanted their firstfruits, not what was left over. Ryan s parents had also taught him to divide his money into three groups: 1. Giving to God, 2. Saving, 3. Spending. Whenever Ryan happened to get a little money, whether from his allowance or a gift, he would handle it this way. Yet as Ryan sat listening, he knew there was more to it. He did not give money often because he rarely had money. His teacher challenged the students to think of ways they could give to the Lord other than with money. This was a new concept for Ryan. The students began to call out ways. They said things like my time, my skills, and gifts I receive. Ryan liked these ideas. He thought about them and considered what he could do. Once he arrived home, Ryan asked his mom to help him think of some very specific things he could do. Ryan knew God was the God of everything and that by finding ways to give Him his firstfruits, he could give God highest priority in his life and thank Him always for everything. Ryan s mom encouraged Ryan to pray first and to ask God for ideas. She suggested asking God whether there were things that were too important to him. God might want Ryan to start with offering those things. Ryan prayed and came to the conclusion that it was time God wanted him to give. Ryan looked in the church bulletin to see if there were any openings for volunteers. He found that they needed junior helpers in the nursery, so he filled out an application. GOLDEN TEXT Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering (Genesis 22:8). Scripture Lesson Text GEN. 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt A bra-ham, and said unto him, A bra-ham: and he said, Behold, here I am. 2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son I saac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Mo-ri ah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. 3 And A bra-ham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and I saac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. 4 Then on the third day A bra-ham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. 5 And A bra-ham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. 6 And A bra-ham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon I saac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together. 7 And I saac spake unto A bra-ham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? 8 And A bra-ham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. 9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and A bra-ham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound I saac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. 10 And A bra-ham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. 11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, A bra-ham, A bra-ham: and he said, Here am I. 12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. 13 And A bra-ham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and A bra-ham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. 14 And A bra-ham called the name of that place Je-ho vah ji reh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. 7 6 Our Lesson Tells Us Sean was eleven years old when his parents told him he could have a dog for a pet. Sean had wanted one since he was very young, but his parents had previously told him no. They lived in a small house and did not have a yard. They told Sean that it just was not a good idea to have a dog. The house was simply too small. Sean was disappointed by this. He did not understand why many of his friends and neighbors with equally small houses had dogs. But he loved his parents and trusted them. They provided for him in every way. He knew they would do what was best for him. One day Sean s mom called home and told him to get some blankets ready. She said to lay them on the kitchen floor in a pile and to perhaps look for a small box. He was not sure why she asked this, but he trusted her and did so. When she arrived home, she had in her arms the smallest dog Sean had ever seen. In fact, Sean could hold her with one hand since she only weighed about three pounds. He soon learned this type of dog was called a teacup Chihuahua. She seemed perfect, and Sean immediately fell in love with her. She was small, but she was a dog. The family chose the name Bella for their new pet. She slept every night in Sean s bed, snuggled in the crook of his knees. In the morning he would get up, put Bella on her leash, take her out to do her business, and then feed her. He did not mind taking care of Bella, he loved her too much to be bothered. He was not even annoyed that he had to wake up a little earlier. Bella loved Sean too. She snuggled up to him every chance she got, whether he was on the sofa or on the floor. She loved to chase the small ball the family got for her and wrestle anyone who was up to the challenge. A short stroll to the curb was an adequate walk for her. She never acted as if the space they lived in was too small. She was small too. One afternoon, after a few years had passed, Sean s mom told him there was a possibility that they would need to find a new home for Bella. Sean s aunt needed to come live with the family, and she was allergic to dogs! Sean grew sad. He did not like the thought of losing Bella, but he remembered how much his parents loved him and that they had brought Bella home in the first place. He would do his best to be strong if the time came to find her a new home. He would enjoy their time together as long as they had it. In Genesis 22 we find the story of Abraham and his son Isaac. For many years of their marriage, Abraham and his wife, Sarah (Isaac s mother), did not have children. They wanted children but had not been able to conceive. Finally, one day Sarah learned she was pregnant, and God blessed them with the birth of their son, Isaac. In fact, God made a promise to Abraham and Sarah that they would start a great nation. Abraham and Sarah not only loved but also cherished Isaac very much. Isaac loved them too. As Isaac grew, he learned from his parents about God and how He provided for Isaac and his ancestors. Isaac grew to love the God his parents loved. He
