Torah, Torah by Ellen Allard Torah, Torah, Torah tzivah lanu Moshe (repeat) We stood at the foot of Mount Sinai And waited for Moshe; We stood at the foot of Mount Sinai, Torah Torah, tzivah tzivah, lanu Moshe! God gave the Torah to Moses Moses gave the Torah to us; God gave the Torah to Moses, Torah Torah, tzivah tzivah, lanu Moshe! It is a tree of life to those who hold it fast; It is a tree of life, Torah Torah, tzivah tzivah, lanu Moshe! 613 Commandments by Debbie Friedman Well ( cause) there were six-hundred-and-thirteen commandments that Moses handed to us. As we stood at the foot of the mountain at Sinai our dear Moses started to fuss. He threw two tablets onto the ground and much to our surprise The Ten Commandments broke into pieces and we couldn t believe our eyes! Because the Torah was much too long to describe to all the Jews Our God decided to write 10 commandments that said the don ts and dos Every commandment talked about the way we have to live When we work or play, cook or clean, borrow, take or give. As we stood at the bottom of the mountain and listened to Moshe He asked how many wanted the Torah and a bunch of us said YEAH! We thought about the way life was and the way life ought to be Without the Torah we would have been lost and stuck with idolatry! So when it s time to celebrate chag ha-shavuot All rejoice because the Torah is ours to study, teach and quote Had we not make a promise to be chosen and to choose Remember that there wouldn t be a people called the Jews. Lo Alecha by Jeff Klepper and Daniel Freelander Lo a-le-cha ha-m -la-chah lig-mor Lo a-le-cha lig-mo-or (repeat) V- lo a-tah ben cho-rin l -hi-ba-teil mi-men-ah V- lo a-tah ben cho-rin (repeat) Don t give up because the road is long Give it a little bit more Don t give in because you don t belong Give it a little bit more! The work is hard, Every day may bring you joy or sorrow, But we have got to be strong! So keep your eyes on the promise of a bright tomorrow And give your voice to this song. 5

God made it full of life: Lilies, oaks and trout, Tigers and bears, sparrows, hawks and apes. And God took clay from earth s four corners To give it the breath of life and God said: This is very good, this is very good Man, woman and child, all are good. This is very good, this is very good Man, woman and child, all are good. Man, woman and child, resemble God. Like God we love, like God we pray, Like God we care. It started with one man, one woman, one garden and one ssssnake! One man, one woman, and one God! One God said one day take it from me This place is Eden, but don t eat from that tree! One snake said one day take it from me You ll be like God, Eve, if you eat from that tree! One woman one man, Adam and Eve, Picked fruit and ate it and God told them to leave! One lesson one learns when day is done, You can t be God cause, guess what, there s only one! It s All Good by Robbi Sherwin with Sababa It s all good, it s all good God made it and it s all good. (repeat) We thank You, God, for the gifts You bring, For the food we eat, for the songs we sing. We thank You, God, for the earth and sky, For our family s love as the days go by. 8 Ufaratzta by Ellen Allard Seven Days by Ellen Allard Yamma (5x) to the west, (Va)keidma (5x) to the east, V tza-fon-a (3x) to the north, Va-neg-ba (3x) to the south! U-u-u-u-u-u-u-u Ufaratzta (3x) Spread it to the west, Spread it to the east, To the north, to the south U-u-u-u-u-u-u! Ufaratzta by Noam Katz Ah na na (4x) (repeat) Yamah, yamah; va keidmah, keidmah, Tza-fonah, va negbah (repeat) May you may you always try to inspire, Did you ever have occasion to assign an accusation May you may you always try to reach higher and higher, to a person who is nowhere to be seen? May you bring your goodness and may you bring peace Or perhaps you re in bad humor, May you spread it from the West to the East, so you spread a nasty rumor May you spread it from the North to the South Saying words that are deliberately mean. UFARATZTA! When you give someone a roastin, May you may you be a light that shines the way, and you re braggin and you re boastin May you may you be a blessing each and every day, but you know somehow deep inside it s wrong. May you let the laughter and love increase, You can make a course correction by May you spread it from the West to the East, reversing your direction May you spread it from the North to the South And remembering this simple little song UFARATZTA! Once Upon a Time by Jackie Cytrynbaum Once upon a time it was right at the start The Lord said I m gonna make light and dark The Lord said (clap clap), It s the first day and I did very good work today! Once upon a time it was day number two, The waters were parted and heaven came through! The Lord said (clap clap), It s the second day and I did very good work today! 3 The land appeared all covered with trees! 4 We had the sun and moon and the stars galore! 5 We had the fish in the water and the birds in the sky! 6 The people and the animals were here to mix Once upon a time it was day number seven, The Lord said, I finished the earth and the heavens! The Lord said (clap clap) it s the seventh day and I m gonna rest all day today! The Lord said (clap clap) it s the seventh day and I m gonna rest all day today! God, God, God, God First day, day and night and it was good! (Zip in each additional verse) Second day, heaven and earth Third day, plants and trees Fourth day, sun and moon and stars Fifth day, fins and wings Sixth day, beasts and humankind Seventh day, Sabbath rest God, God, God, God Lashon Hara by Ellen Allard Lashon hara! (Shh! Shh! Shh! Shh!) (2x) It s the words we speak that say just who we are. So don t repeat it, just delete it, Our advice if you should need it Lashon hara! (Shh! Shh! Shh! Shh!) (2x) It s in all the Hebrew writin, in the fussin and the fightin In the words that teach us how to live as Jews. From one story to another, father, mother, sister, brother, There is power in the language that we choose. Though it seems like human nature, within all our nomenclature Within all we think and write and say and do. There s commandment number nine, it teaches us to toe the line But in a pinch we think this little song will do. In conclusion, in summation, the entire human nation Could reverse our history by being nice. Our peaceful co-existence, could use all of our assistance fore you say it, think it once, then think it twice. So when you have heard a story bout another s guts and glory Or you re feeling like you need to tell a tale. If you re catty like a kitty, just recall our little ditty, It s a chorus guaranteed to never fail. 7

Yeah, let s do tikkun olam (2x) I ll be the one to start the repair Think and act green, but don t just stop there Reduce, reuse, recycle, keep Mother Earth clean So I ll sing, I just wanna be green I just wanna be green I ll be the one to start the repair Help those in need, show them love and good care Lending a hand to put someone at ease So I ll sing, help those in need, oh yeah, Help those in need! I ll be the one to start the repair Bring people hand-in-hand for peace we can share When people come together It s the perfect harmony So I ll sing, make peace, make peace When You Give a Little Ahavah by Judy Farber When you give a little ahavah, When you give a little love, you'll see, You'll make this world a better place, A much better place to be! (repeat chorus) What Can One Little Person Do? by Sally Rogers What can one little person do? What can one little me or you do? What can one little person do to help this world go 'round? One can help another one, and together we can get the job done. What can one little person do to help this world? Harriet Tubman was alone on that darkened road to freedom, but she couldn't leave her people far behind. Moses stretched out her hand, and she led them to the promised land, cause she knew that she had justice on her side. When Sojourner Truth was freed, she got down on her knees, and she prayed to God to help her on her way With her voice and with her might, she fought for what was right, for she knew that she had justice on her side. Rosa Parks sat on the bus, and the driver said, "you must move to the back of the bus, or else be thrown in jail" But she stayed and stood her ground, and she brought that old law down, cause she knew that she had justice on her side. Brother Martin Luther King told the world "I have a dream!" and he led this country's fight for human rights We must fight for liberty, until all of us are free, til we know that we have justice on our side. (chorus, then repeat last line to end) Just start to Laugh a little laugh, smile a little smile Reach for someone's hand, talk a little while Then you'll start to see that you have made This world a better place to be That's one, two, three and four When you give a little love, give a little bit more Echat-shtayim-shalosh-arbah Don't forget to give a little ahavah To your mama, your papa, your sister and your brother To the whole wide world, let's love one another! Just start to 11

14 Holidays General Jewish Holiday Rap by Lisa Baydush Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Tu B Shvat, Purim and Passover, Shabbat, Yom Ha-atzma ut, Shavuot and Tisha B Av to boot! Rosh Hashanah is just the beginning of a year filled with Jewish holidays; Yom Kippur is next, it s not fun, we don t eat food, but we take the time to say, I m sorry. Then we celebrate the harvest on Sukkot, we pick apples from the trees, and build a sukkah in the yard with Dad or with Mom, depending on who is more skilled with a hammer and a na-ail! (Owww!) On Simchat Torah, we re-roll the Torah, we start to read the books anew; And then Chanukah is really, really fun dreidels, latkes, candles, gelt, and soufganio-ot (Jelly donuts are so good! Can I have one? Have an apple, dear. Mom!) Next we celebrate the harvest once again, with apples, raisins, walnuts, dates, and figs for Tu B Shvat. Next comes Purim - we read the Megillah, we wear costumes for this joyous holiday. Soon it s Passover, my most favorite one of all! We celebrate with all our family, at the seder, where we eat Matza balls, gefilte fish, and chocolate macaroons; we sip wine when no one s looking, and we dance around the room; we sing songs and tell the story of our people long ago (You know, I think we do that at nearly EVERY holiday! Yeah, you re right! Like ) Can you name the most important holiday? We celebrate it every week! (SHABBAT!) And we honor Yis-ra-el on Yom Ha-atzma ut! (Yay, Israel!) We celebrate receiving the Torah on Shavuot! And Tisha B Av, you might not know That s when we remember the destruction of the Temples. (Ohh that s so sad we should fast again?!) Chag Sameach Chag sameach, chag sameach Lai lai lai lai lai lai lai (repeat) Shiru shiru shiru shiru chag sameach Lai lai lai lai lai lai lai (repeat) We Say Shehecheyanu, Thank You, God by Jeff Klepper We say, Shehe-cheyanu, thank You, God, For every time of happiness and joy! Let s sing, Shehe-cheyanu, thank You, God, For giving life to every girl and boy! When I look around the world with my eyes, When I feel the wind and look up to the skies, When I cry, when I laugh, when I sing, I know that God is a part of everything. For the times when I ve learned something new, In our lives there are so many things to do. At the start of every holiday, There is a very special blessing that we say. 25 We Light the Lights by Sam Glaser On eight winter nights we light the lights of the menorah Together with the millions of our people everywhere; In spite of the darkness we light the lights of the menorah, Knowing the dark doesn t hold a candle to our prayer. We light the lights, warming the whole wide world all over. We light and we heal each broken heart. We light tonight, singing out our favorite songs together, 1 st : And for a moment, we see we re not so far apart. 2 nd : We can be sure the flame will never disappear, cause we will light this very time next year. There have been times of danger when we couldn t learn our Torah, When they tried to make our spirit disappear. So eight nights a year, we light the lights of the menorah, Showing the promise of our Torah perseveres. Triumph of Spirit by Lisa Baydush It happened so long ago, this story that we all know, the triumph of our people s love for God when a small Jewish band of Macabees took a stand and said, No! That tiny group of Jews, for sure you d think they d lose to a much stronger foe, but wouldn t you know, they won when a small Jewish band of Macabees took a stand and said, No! The miracle I d say is not how many days the oil could last with the temple smashed and burned; but how inspired Jews put all their faith in God and dared to have their rights returned. We celebrate today the freedom we have to pray, and remember the ones who d overcome their fear who fought for our right to light these candles tonight and had the courage to say, Shalom! Miriam s Song by Debbie Friedman And the women dancing with their timbrels Followed Miriam as she sang her song. Sing a song to the One whom we ve exalted. Miriam and the women danced and danced the whole night long. And Miriam was a weaver of unique variety. The tapestry she wove was one which sang our history. With every thread and every strand she crafted her delight. A woman touched with spirit, she dances toward the light. As Miriam stood upon the shores and gazed across the sea.
