13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and where you made a vow to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land. Genesis 31:13
6 Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites. 7 Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, I will give this land to your descendants. Genesis 12:6-7

13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and where you made a vow to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land. Genesis 31:13 3 Then the Lord said to Jacob, Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you. Genesis 31:3
3 I want you to swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living, Genesis 24:3
So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: Do not marry a Canaanite woman. Genesis 28:1
Key People in Chapter 34 Hamor Ruler of the Hivites Shechem Hamor s son Dinah Leah s teenaged daughter Levi & Simeon Dinah s brothers Jacob Father, head of the household
Shechem had done an outrageous thing against Israel by sleeping with Jacob s daughter a thing that should not be done. Genesis 34:7
10 You can settle among us; the land is open to you. Live in it, trade in it, and acquire property in it. 23 Won t their livestock, their property and all their other animals become ours? So let us agree to their terms, and they will settle among us. Genesis 34:10, 23
7 Now Jacob s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were filled with grief and fury, because Shechem had done a disgraceful thing Genesis 34:7 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. Genesis 6:6
11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. Genesis 17:11
God s gifts are meant to please God.
Sin is not only what you do, but what you don t do.
25 Three days later, while all of them were still in pain, two of Jacob s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah s brothers, took their swords and attacked the unsuspecting city, killing every male. 26 They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword and took Dinah from Shechem s house and left. Genesis 34:25-26
Evil begets evil.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God s wrath, for it is written: It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:17-19
It s the opposite of how you feel When they pain they caused is just too real Takes everything you have to say the word Forgiveness So let it go and be amazed by what you see through eyes of grace The prisoner that it really frees is you
Forgive. Give it to God.
30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You have brought trouble on me by making me a stench to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land. We are few in number, and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed. Genesis 34:30

30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You have brought trouble on me by making me a stench to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land. We are few in number, and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed. Genesis 34:30
God s grace is seen in His patience.
1 Then God said to Jacob, Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau. Genesis 35:1
15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you. Genesis 28:15
3 Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone. Genesis 35:3
God is with you.

2 So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes. Genesis 35:2
Testimony is important.
7 There he built an altar, and he called the place El Bethel, because it was there that God revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother. Genesis 35:7
Bethel House of God El Bethel God of the House of God
11 And God said to him, I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants. 12 The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you. Genesis 35:11-12
